Blast from the Past: Greasy Constantine

I’ve often referred to Season 4’s Constantine as greasy or “walking VD” on this blog, but I didn’t feel the need to post any actual Constantine-centric content until I ran an old friend named Devin last weekend.

Devin and I used to work and drink together in 2002. He told me, not long after meeting, that he had done an episode of Elimidate but came in second, lost to some “music school tool in leather pants”, even after dropping down to his boxers on the dance floor at Pravada on Boylston (Which is now the Gypsy Bar).

I forgot all about this until 2005, when I was included on a mass email from Devin saying something like, “you guys wanted it and here it is”. The clip from Devin’s Elimidate appearance was now making the rounds because the “music school tool in leather pants” he lost to was now on American Idol.

If you guys are curious, the girl on the “date” left immediately after filming ended, or hooked up with someone on the camera crew or something. I don’t remember, but ooooh, big shock, the episode was just a bunch of bullshit.

But since I recently ran into Devin, coupled with the fact its AI season and I’m now forced to see the Walking VD so I can “blog” about American Idol Extra, I decided to post this now-hidden gem.

Now I didn’t mind Constantine too-too much when he was on AI, that being the first of three seasons I’ve watched. In fact, I liked him better when he wasn’t performing, b/c the stares always kind of made me feel icky. I think my one brother-in-law describes the feeling as “piss shivers”, but you know what I’m talking about, that kind of creepy and uncomfortable twinge that goes through a person when you get all skeeved out.
