OH SNAP! Did a Castro Fan BUY the New Laptop?

August 26, 2008

A fan named Sherry had something to do with Jason Castro’s new Macbook.

Ah those crazy Idol fans, always trying to one-up one another, get closer to their prey.

And I still don’t understand why Apple hasn’t given these people their own laptops. Haven’t they? Sorry, if they gave them all free iPhones, why wouldn’t the receive Macbooks for when they went on the road? I still do not believe that they did not receive Macbooks.

A lot of speculation regarding the matter has surrounded a fan named Sherry who has been involved in the raising of money for the Visa Gift Card. Fans had “ditched” that idea early on in the “gift” decision process, opting for an “end-of-tour gift” instead. Some people suggested donating to Luke Menard instead of giving a gift, while many shot down this idea.

In Sherry’s defense, there were several who did not want to donate to Luke Menard and one woman actually called people “hollier than thou” for just suggesting that they do such a thing.

On Jason Castro’s latest DATE NIGHT! He thanks “a lovely lady named Sherry”. Is it a coincidence? Was a Sherry a representative of a “corporation”? Someone that worked at Apple?

So is this the Sherry on DDB who was organizing the big cash gift or isn’t it? Maybe it’s another Sherry, but much of the evidence pointed to her as the obvious choice. And it may not be her. It’s just that it is oddly coincidental that the woman who helped organized the cash drive shares the same name of the “lovely lady” whom Castro got the laptop. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t — But I can see where suspicions were raised about the matter.

When will these fans ever learn? Stoner J, you seem like a nice guy. Please get away from these women. Fans are good, but these people aren’t fans. They’re sycophants. Regardless of who purchased this laptop, fans shouldn’t be lavishing such elaborate gifts or trying to one-up each other for a little recognition. Donate to a charity in that person’s name, perhaps, or just buy their music and support them in downloads and concert tickets.

LMAO that anyone would think someone would be jealous of Orphanage Sherry. Yeah, people are jealous of an obsessed old woman who is trying to buy her way into Castro’s good graces. Riiiight.

This woman should step back, get psychiatric help and quit concocting ways to try and get her hands on Castro’s stick.

Sanefan, I tuned them out after they yammered for a bit. I will check with my friend to see what else they said. I thought it was funny when they said that he came into “their” store, like it was their family owned store. I thought only Apple Stores, affiliated Best Buys, and Frys sold Apple products in the DFW area.

I just don’t get why these crazy ass people buy these Idols expensive gifts. Well, I guess I answered my own question – they’re crazy. I would never spend my hard earned money on something that I can hardly afford to buy myself for someone that has triple the money that I have. I can understand maybe making your favorite something, but computers and Wii games? If these fans are married and have kids, they should be spending that money on their families and not some stranger. Giving an end of tour gift is way over the top. What are you thanking him for? He should be thanking the fans for getting his name out there. If you want to show support, the best kind will be to buy his music when it’s released.

I mean, aren’t they making 50k or more just for this tour? Or am I way off on that? And then count the money from being on the show. Did they also get paid for the itunes downloads?

I’m also kind of surprised that they actually take these gifts themselves and don’t let security go through all of it first.

Jason does seem like a decent guy. That is why this is so shocking. I almost hope he’s a clueless as he appears.
Have other idol’s family or friends been so involved with fansites, to the extreme of sending personal messages to fans?
Didn’t Jason just start dating this girl Mandy in March? So… collecting her trip money would have started right after they started dating?
His family and their hanger-ons are going to destroy him.

I can’t argue about his family’s involvement which is why I think they need to take a step back. It doesn’t look good. The problem is that Castro himself seems to be completely clueless about what is going on.

  11. August 27, 2008 10:15 pm

Digs at Johns–niice, well played but not working. Geez no wonder fans are bugged by Castro tards. Rachel you missed the point–the diff is his and family’s fan involvement. (No need to cite the cost of the game–that’s not my problem with it, it’s his Mom ‘innocently’ suggesting it. Why the hell is she even online?) That’s what make Jason’s ‘vlog’ seem like hinting–the icky preceents. Convenient you overlooked his Mom’s suggestions and his bro’s photo solicitation. Didn’t they also suggest to fans to fund his chick’s mission? Sure they must see it as signs from God to do those things and they must mean well, but still, doesn’t sit right with a lot of people. DEAL WITH IT. Stop wasting your time writing lengthy posts as Castro’s apologist. On this AI related blog and other sites/blogs;) (And nope, he won’t sleep with you too.) This is precisely the problem with his fandom.

My question as a fan is this: Just how out of it is Castro? I know the dude is ‘out there’ but it seems like his family has him in a plastic bubble or something. He and his Mom can’t even get on the same page about the origin of this computer. I’m not suggesting anything nefarious but obviously they aren’t even instructing him on what to say and what not to say. As a result Castro himself took a big mess and made it bigger.

I think Jason’s current situation is screaming for professional representation. I think he needs help and his family, although they seem like nice people, should take a few steps back. And this obsessed gift card woman should take about 200 steps back.

Quotes from the “end of tour gift for Jason” thread:

“I would like to donate to the End of Tour Gift for Jason, I think its a great idea, giving him a gift he can use towards his future CD or a new pair of jeans if thats what he needs.
But I have one question, do I need to use paypal or can I mail money to some one.”

“Sherry- I haven’t had time to read all the pages and you may have already given this but is there an address we can send the donation to??”

I’m laughing my ASS off how these fools consider this a donation. Jason is no charity case. Could these people be anymore delusional?

I was under the impression that Jason told the broken laptop story as an excuse for missing his regularly scheduled “date night” and not as a hint. That said, the gift giving has gotten out of control, but I don’t think that its particularly unique to Jason’s fans.

Sean, I doubt highly Castro was hinting at a computer with his posting about his computer going down. Whatever you think of the people on the inside, I do not buy for one iota of a second he was hinting for a freaking computer. Especially since it was also reported that he then went and got his old one fixed.

Funny part is he will now have censor what he does say in order for 1) fans not to buy it for him and 2) to keep idiots like yourself off his back. Have you sent him that new phone charger he was hinting for yet?

  17. AnonymousCastroFan permalink
    August 27, 2008 4:29 pm

Sorry Sean. Castro never hinted about needing a computer in any vlog. He made a totally harmless remark about having computer problems in a myspace bulletin. There was nothing about what he said that could in any way be construed as him asking for anything. A group of overzealous fans led by a woman who is clearly obsessed did the rest.

If he mentioned he went horseback riding and enjoyed it these same fans would start a collection to buy him a Triple Crown winner. He needs to ditch these fans before they cause more trouble for him.

For the record there are two Rachel’s posting. That last one wasn’t me.

I do not think Jason is the messiah or whatever ridiculous comment was made above. Of course he can do things wrong and has. And will continue to. That isn’t my point. My point is why is it made such a big freaking deal over Jason’s computer when MJ’s computer came from fans?

Top Idol, you say at least MJ has encouraged fans to give back. By what? I like MJ, but outside of twirling an umbrella around what exactly has he done in telling fans to give money to Luke? A five second Mavid dance? And if I wanted to be snarky about it I could point out that MJ’s edict about giving back was only after he scored himself a nice new video camera and computer.

During the AI season Jason asked for people to direct their attention and funds to Adam Cook instead of him. Cook sure remembers since he has thanked some of Jason’s fans for their contributions at various points along the tour.

Sorry, but as much as I do admit fans are out of line and that Jason isn’t the second coming of Christ, MJ and Cook aren’t either and a lot of these bloggers that have been condemning Jason seem to be holding up the other two as proper models of conduct.

Top Idol, in reference to why Jason may not have mentioned a company in his vlog, you call him Stoner J for a reason. The guy also failed to mention his brand new website or other crap about his myspace that he had told fans he would mention. In case you haven’t noticed, he’s a bit spacey. It’s just amusing that so much emphasis is being put on a few words from his vlog considering half the world thinks he’s baked most of the time anyway.

Quote about the Visa gift card collection the dreadheads are working on:

“I am so looking forward to being there at this gifting myself. It’s not about cameras, lights and action, it doesn’t need big fanfare or a big ta-do. It’s about the message we are delivering to Jason that night. A message that will tell him at the end of this journey with American Idol, that we, his fans, his Dreadheads are still there. A message that tells him we are prepared to stand behind him on the next phase. I think that will be the best part of the gift.”

    Since when does support=cash?

  20. August 27, 2008 3:28 pm

Typical Castards shifting blame on Idols they don’t like (i.e. Johns). Of course it can never be Stoner J’s fault, he’s practically the Messiah. Johns got his fan gift as a surprise early on. As other Idols from this and other seasons, who were given similarly expensive items without PROLONGED HINTING from either side. (As for Apple giving Macs, not all of them got one, likely the Top 5 or 6 did.)

Castro’s under more scrutiny cuz bec. HE HIMSELF hinted at needing one on his vlog just recently. Is he that baked (or if we’re speaking code, NAIVE) that he didn’t realize his crazy fans in particular, are quick to pick up on not-so-subtle suggestions like that? Isn’t the whole point of ‘Date Night’ is pandering to them?

Sure, mentioning his computer woes wouldn’t have been a big deal if there wasn’t a precedent of HIS MOM suggesting/approving gifts from fans. Like the Wii game he got. He or at least his family knows that it happens–ask and he shall receive, so to speak. And, Castro has the larger fanbase with rival camps hellbent at outdoing each other and having publicly freakish arguments about it.

I don’t approve of the expensive gifts but I can only shrug at what other people do with their money. It’s their business, what can I do? But the likelihood of Idols themselves (or their families or close friends)taking advantage of these fans being gullible bordering on stupid, or them knowing what’s going on and not doing anything about it–now that warrants some public bitchslapping.

It doesn’t help Jason’s cause that his family’s close involvement/interaction with these type of fans just crosses the line. (The gift cards that HIS MOM approved, soliciting photos that his bro can sell, WTF?!) This makes Castro’s case more disturbing. So TopIdol, keep up the good work;)

He never said she bought him a computer, he said she hooked me up, so that could be taken both ways. She was the one that got him the computer not bought him the computer. Only Jason knows what went down. WHO CARES HOW HE GOT IT……… But if you so not know the whole truth, keep it to yourself. If fans want to buy him something, let them, if they don’t, let them. Do not speculate on his families actions in print, you do not know them either. RUMORS do not benefit anyone. Go ahead and reply with vulger language, as it appears that is what you people are best at.

I don’t think he’ll be stealing money from the homeless anytime soon.

Corporation that gives Macbooks to Idols? Wouldn’t that be Apple? If it was a corporation, he would THANK the corporation, wouldn’t he? If it was, indeed, a corporate gift.

If Johns did get a computer from his fans, ok. I haven’t checked into this. But Johns has also made it a point to encourage his (and / or “Mavid”) to donate to Luke Menard or a charity ever since rather than give gifts. Archie has also made blog posts urging his fans to tone down the gift giving.

Never said Castro was a bad guy on here…I really don’t think he is. However, I think he (and everyone else on that Tour) should tell their fans to donate to a charity instead of buying them lavish gifts. It doesn’t bode well for the integrity of the show or its contestants.

The person who runs DDB (and also works for Jason’s new official site) has also posted that the Sherry that Jason referred to in his vlog is also the same Sherry who is part of the corporation who has given MacBooks to most of the other Idols. I’m sure I’ll probably be told that she’s simply trying to cover her bases and do damage control, but not buying it.

And if true are we also going to get a stunning indictment for all the Idols who have taken computers from Sherry? Or shall we have one for Michael Johns who was gifted a computer by fans?

I do appreciate that you have been at least ammending your statements and I too have been one of the Castro fans having issues with the over the top gifting and some of the way things are being run on the inside. But it’s the spreading of false information in some sort of effort to prove a point that has taken it too far for me.

Some have said that we can’t prove it’s not DDB’s Sherry, but burden of proof runs the other way. It’s innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.

Also if Sherry wanted this attention the way everybody seems to think she does, why would she deny the giving of the computer? Wouldn’t she want everybody to know it was her if in fact she is guilty of the things people are saying about her?

Really, I was with you minus the name calling but now it’s just too far. I fully expect tomorrow’s headline to be about Jason stealing money from the homeless. Might as well just be TMZ.

Sherry is not an unusual name, but its also not uncommon. Plus, why would a “non-fan” buy him a computer? I think he was being kind and polite by saying “lovely lady”…it was unnecessary that he had to say “fan”.

Circumstantial evidence? Perhaps overwhelming circumstantial evidence. If a corporation bought this laptop for him, or a family friend, I think he would have specified as such. I’m not trying to embarrass this lady, but simply point out that maybe her actions are not completely altruistic, especially when she speaks of doing something from the Dreadhead fanbase as a whole. I do not think that the fans (who are buying ridiculously expensive gifts or urging people to donate money for a gift card) are doing anything good for these people as far as career longevity go when they seem to want to one-up each other and banish those who disagree with them. If you’re a true fan of something, you want to share it with people and let them decide for themselves…which also involves freedom of opinion.

(And for the record, I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. While this blog is snarky and not always kind, I do not post things that are untrue. I also do not use first names, in this case I did, because it was mentioned in the vlog.)

I have been with you on some of your blogs on this gift business, but I think now you are jumping to conclusions. If you were a journalist or a lawyer since when does a first name consitute proof? Is Sherry that uncommon of a name? There are like five people with that name alone within the company I work for.

FWIW, choose to believe it or not, but that Sherry denies having anything to do with this computer. Either buying it or hooking Jason up.

I also don’t know why it’s so hard to believe that the Sherry that Jason mentioned could just be the person who owns the company or the rep that helped him. Nowhere in the video does he say “fan”. He just says she’s a sweet lady.

I’m not being naieve. I know there are psycho fans and like I said, I’ve mostly been with you so far, but I think it is also reaching to embarrass this lady when you have no actual proof she had a thing to do with this Mac gift.

Now it feels like people are going too far to prove their point that they will take anything and everything no matter how vague the info they have really is.

Yeah that’s what I thought, they have MacBooks. But really…how can that be? If Jason’s computer broke surely Idol Staff/Apple would prodive him with another? no? Jason I’m sure is not behind this, there must be some reason that we don’t, and never will know about why he accepted it. I’m sure he would’ve felt rude denying it..I don’t know.

The all have MacBooks already. Every pic I’ve seen from the bus, they have them. These people are pathetic. Jason’s mooching family is probably selling laptops on eBay right now.

Sherry does no deserve to be called that. I don’t know her, but she wanted to do it, it’s done so let’s not bother with it. I am also confused about them not recieveing macbooks from apple. They did get iPhones, and in Syesha’s lastest vlog, Kristy has a macbook.
