I could certainly use an afternoon in an upscale spa

September 28, 2008

If you contributed cash to those Ritz-Carlton spa gift certificates for Betsey Castro and Sooner, photos have definitely been posted and the thread was not deleted on the soon-to-be-extinct fanboard. These images have also appeared both on IdleTard and other websites.

While I really have readily admitted I do not understand the purpose in gifting Stoner J with expensive items, I am having much greater difficulty with comprehending why its perfectly acceptable to buy the mother and the “cheerleader” expensive gifts costing approximately $300 each. This has been called a thank you gift, but a thank you for what? If you’re a fan of a singer, your a fan of the singer. Not his mother, or his sister, or some potentially lecherous hanger-on.

A lot of this gift drive was done behind the scenes from what I have been told, as it was going on during the same time of MacbookGate and the gift card controversy. The fans who participated in this gift say it was for well-deserved rest and relaxation. To me and others, it seems like a clear strategy of kissing ass in the hopes of getting closer to Jason Castro.

I could use some rest and relaxation. Who wants to chip in and send me to an afternoon at a swank spa?

I kid, I kid. Kind of. Anyway, since we’ve been discussing the other gift card, I would like to know how some of the fans feel about giving gifts to the Castro family and their family friends. I’ve mentioned it on here before, but since we’ve been discussing other things “out in the open”, I would love to hear some thoughts on this matter.

    Tards R Us,

    You made excellent points.
So many of the people that voted for Jason and would like to see him put out a great cd, are now concerned about the way his career is being handled.

I can’t relate to someone like Sooner and certainly don’t want to be associated with the whacko “dreadheads”.

They are jumping the gun with charging anyone for a fan club membership. The Castro family & friends are marketing Jason in a very strange way.

The Foo Fighters have put out 7 great cds and sell out stadiums. I’m sure thet will continue to tour & their next cd will be good enough to purchase, but I would never pay for a Foo fan membership.

“His official fan site DOES NOT require any payment to join. The $25 payment is for the optional fanclub.”

Yes I’m aware of that, however those PERKS that come with being a member of the fan club don’t even EXIST right now. Members of the Club are supposed to be able to Pre-Order tickets to his “shows” or M&G passes at his “shows”, but the one show he is scheduled for only offers “tables” at $1,000 or $3,500 a pop and ANYONE can get one of those. The M&G passes only come with the $3,500 table.

Please tell me, what is the $30 giving these people? NOTHING. It is just a way to scam these fraus into giving the Castro’s more money.

How about Jason get signed, a CD out, and a real tour before making fans pay for these things. Isn’t them paying just to go to a show enough? Isn’t buying a non-existent CD enough?

    I guess not.

Dumb asses, the whole lot of them.

The fan club assigns numbers to people when they sign up. It seems that it’s in order so if you were among the first to sign up you got a low number and now people are getting high numbers. I know because it’s been discussed on some of the boards. Some of his fans are upset that they have high numbers such as #1000 because it shows that they waited to sign up for the club. One woman was complaining about being #1000 so I deduced that they had sold at least 1000 memberships at $29.95 a pop which would be close to $30,000. It may even be more than that now. They probably got a lot of people at his church to join and it’s a huge church!

My point is that it is a weird time (age 21) to have one’s family be so involved in HIS career. It is a developmental issue. It is the time of life when most people his age are truly separating themselves from family in a psychological sense. I think this makes it very hard for him right now.

And yeah his father stayed out–at least publicly. So what? My guess is that Betsy runs this family. It isn’t much of a leap in logic to arrive at this conclusion.

    Cantthingofname,

The fan site may be free to join, but there is a $25-30 charge for “special perks” and “members only benefits”.

And once people pay for the initial “fan club kit”, I believe they then are given a coupon for 10% off, if they buy then and there, a t-shirt upon checkout.

I may be wrong on the exact discount, but I know a t-shirt isn’t part of the “package”.

TopIdol – Thanks for saying that Jason’s behavior has never been suspect. I think this is true and I don’t think this point can be made enough.

Zelda – Come on. I don’t think he’s trapped with his family. I don’t even think his whole family is the problem. His father seems to have stayed out of it for the most part. I can’t say the same for his mother but she wouldn’t be the first Mom to go a little nutty over having a famous kid.

I do worry about these family friends and I wish there were more professional involvement. And although it doesn’t seem to be in his nature, I think Jason needs to learn to say no to people sometimes. He should probably start with Sherry.

It is true that Jason can’t control what some of these fans are doing, however if Jason is going to have an “official” site and a fan board attached to it, he NEEDS to make sure the people running it are not doing shady things. It seems to me that if posts regarding the Towels are being deleted or taken “off-board”, and the same mods/admins that are doing that are also mods/admins on the boards attached to his “official” website, well then Jason needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Jason himself isn’t doing these things, but he’s allowing those with power to allow these things to happen, so he is partly culpable at this point. HIS MOTHER knows this stuff is happening and has those same people in power at his OFFICIAL BOARD, how ridiculous is that!

Jason should just be focusing on his music, or whatever he wants his career to be, but won’t be able to do so if he allows these people to be involved. He needs to find PROPER Management and PR and get away from the friends/family/fans doing these things for him.

His official fan site requires a $25 payment, and his fan board has over 1,500 people signed up. If even 1/4 of those people signed up for his official site, they still made quite a bit of cash off these fans that haven’t been guaranteed anything since Jason isn’t signed! Special M&G passes for a tour that doesn’t exist, and a show that is already scheduled the fans need to pay $350 a ticket to get a guaranteed M&G with him, give me a break.

It is Jason’s name, it is Jason’s music, it is Jason’s responsibility to make sure things are being taken care of properly at this point and not have his “mommy” do everything for him.

How do you know the take so far from Jason’s official website/fan club? That’s a pretty bold statement regarding the $30k. You an insider or keep the books? That’s a lot of moolah for someone who hasn’t even released an album yet….

The family has fallen for the biggest lie in show business: surround yourself and listen to only those who tell you what you want to hear.

There is no excuse for this level of ignorance. It is chosen. Anyone with a single critical thinking skill would realize that this is the case and get out there more..or pay someone who will (read the fan sites and find out just what is being said!)

There is NO PR and pr is what Jason needs right now more than anything. OH–and breaking away from home.

Can you imagine–21 years old and trapped with your family forever it seems because you have hit it big!

Look at the towel girl’s (She’s 20 or 21, not a woman) website. Personally, I would like a name for one of the charities I would be donating to.

Nor do they have an A&M website, even though it is an A&M-associated charity.

That’s another thing on my “to-do” list.

I haven’t noticed a towel cover-up. I think a few members are trying to work things out privately and get ahold of the towel woman. Apparently the towel woman does not have internet service right now (cough) and has experienced a great deal of upheaval in her life recently (cough).

I did read the towel woman is planning on attending the Christmas concert. If she actually shows up she better do so with either a lot of towels or plenty of cash for refunds.

I just want to point out that none of this has anything to do with Jason and he can’t control these kinds of scams.

I am not a fan of any of the Idols this year except for the fabulous Amanda Overmyer. I just can’t stand anyone being ripped off or being taken advantage of. These people need to start standing up for their members and quit enabling con artist to steal from them.

The members of the fan-sites can put down VFTW and IdleTard all they want. But the Admin and Mods at those sites would never tolerate this shit there. So, who is really acting like a stain on humanity here? :p

I often wonder where the Dad is in all of this. He seems to be rather silent and I’ve not heard of anyone buying him anything. Wonder how he feels about their uh, new family business.

  28. Catronaughty permalink

The gifts started out nice but then got way out of control. I think alot of it actually embarassed Castro himself. He told a reporter that the 1000 ballons they bought him were “weird”, he choose to nap on the bus rather than go out and view the airplane banner they bought to fly over the Staples Center and he tried to turn down the cash card. The crazy fans did buy the gifts to get attention from him and in some cases it worked. But in the end they turned him into a whore in a sense when they forced him to accept the cash. I think he’s the first Idol to be given cash outright by fans. The family has already made more than $30,000 on the bogus fan club memberships and he made 6 figures for the tour. Even without a record deal, he really didn’t need $1,000 cash. Yes, Sooner and Mama Castro were given gift cards to the Ritz spa, his sister was given $150 for her birthday and there was talk of buying his girlfriend a birthday gift but that idea got shot down. Their rationale for that was that she isn’t officially “family”. It’s obvious the kid sister wants to go into showbiz, too. I wouldn’t be suprised at all if they start looking for an agent for her soon. The brother is supposedly a better singer than Jason but is very shy and doesn’t want to perform publicly. I don’t think Jason will become the jerk Constantine is but I think that’s part of his problem. He’s too nice and he’s letting his Mom and Sooner push him around and force him to do things and accept gifts he isn’t comfortable with.

Or like iCarly. It’s sickening what these people are doing, but to be honest it has happened in other fan bases over the years. In fact Constipated’s was that out of control for a full year after he was off AI. To this day his small fan base still sends his mother gifts for Mother’s Day. His brother even told fans what to buy for him and his brother and provided lists at one point. He never appreciated any of the gifts and always spoke badly about his fans to others, but those morons still keep on buying him shit. They deserve what they get for being so gullible after all these years.

I remember two Jason interviews that were red flags about Betsy.
The first one, Jason said when he was living at his college he realized he was doing things to please his parents. That’s when he quit his band & stopped doing the Cheyenne show.
The second interview was right after he got the boot from AI. When asked about the Dadchuleta, Jason said Jeff was a nice guy and that if he was 17 his mom would more involved than Jeff.
I wish I could remember the source.

It’s so funny, b/c the Archuleta father was the big bad evil Idol parent, grooming his child to go on the show since its inception.

Jeff Archuleta is nothing compared to Mama Cashtro.

I was thinking Disney or Nickelodeon, too. The best friend is on those vlogs for a reason, to give her the all-important “sidekick”. Like Six to “Blossom” and the I-See-Dead-People’s kid sister on “Hannah Montana”.

Jackie is being groomed to go on AI in a couple years, if it’s not canned by then. I bet the other brother is also being pushed into it.

I wonder if Betsy was behind Jestro going on Cheyenne?

I wonder if Betsy was a monstrous stage mommy during Cheyenne and Idol?

I wonder if Betsy’s not trying to shop Jackie to Disney.

The younger sister’s YouTube channel is a bit ridiculous, do you agree? She even has a sidekick, her best friend, who can barely get a word in edge wise.

So you want a spa gift too? Tell you what, I’ll collect the funds (cash only) and present it to you in a hotel lobby.

I don’t really understand getting Sooner a gift. Or Betsey. Or Jackie. She was given a cash card for her birthday from some of the Dreadheads. At one point it seemed like every thread on DDB was a gift thread of some sort. Plans and collections for gifts, the story of the presentation of the gift complete with pictures and the responses and exclamations of uninvolved posters. The entire board looked like a big Gift-O-Rama.

It’s a touchy thing to try and gauge the intentions of others. I’m sure many of the contributors to these gifts were just being generous but I agree that it did start to come off as a competition. And I think some are engaging in ass-kissing in the hopes of getting closer to Jason. It would be really sad if some contributed because they didn’t want to be left out. Giving gifts is not the measure of a true fan and I’m glad this has been shut down to a large extent.

I can’t understand why the fans keep thanking Jason for video blogs, or his sister for posting, or his mom for her involvement with the fans, or Sooner for writing the occasional incoherent post. Jason posts the video blogs as a way to promote himself and his career, not as a thank-you to fans. His mother posts to promote the fan club and the merchandise, as does Sooner. What Jackie is doing on there I can’t comprehend. I read somewhere that before Jason auditioned for AI, Betsy took Jackie to California to try to find her an agent and was unsuccessful. Maybe Betsy allows Jackie online because she wants her to cultivate her own fans so she can go into the entertainment business as well.

These gifts for Betsy and Sooner are blatant ass-kissing maneuvers. The Rosequeens and Sherrys of the fanbase want to buy their way into Jason’s “inner circle”.

I think it got to a point where most people were contributing to get some sort of recognition from Jason and/or his family and if you did not contribute, then there was a fear that Jason would not mention you in a blog, a vblog or a bulletin, and you felt left out. He only happened to have mentioned just a very few people/groups from all the swag he received over the season. And look what happened to the gift card….not one mention. It just got crazy. The gift giving seemed to become competitive. It needed to stop; maybe never even start. But this giving of gifts has always happened from Idol fans. It’s just with Jason….totally overboard. At some point, someone should have been an adult as said, “Stop, already.”
