Some Glamberts think Adam Lambert is integral part of mystery on ABC’s Flash Forward

September 26, 2009

Photo of Adam Lambert (Boston) for Wicked Glitter

I need to catch Flash Forward. I’ve heard great things about it and I’m a sucker for good sci-fi. It seems to be one of the most well-received new shows of the network’s fall schedules.

Leave it to the rabid Adam Lambert fans to try to make it all about, well, Adam Lambert. Because they can make ANYTHING about, uh, Adam Lambert. Hell, did you know that on Monday, President Obama is gonna announce Lambert as this nation’s first ever Secretary of Glam Fierceness? (Yeah. Tyra Banks is SUPER pissed upon discovering she was no longer under consideration for this key cabinet position in the Obama Administration.)

You see, because this song used Mad World in their previews over the summer and some shadowy figured dressed in black kind of resembles him, the Glamberts are convinced Adam Lambert might be this person and his alleged appearance on the show is meant to GAIN MORE VIEWERS.

***UPDATED WITH TRAILER – MAD WORLD COMES IN AT 1:53*** This is one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen! Thanks to our friend Ofra for finding this on youtube and bringing it to our attention. It’s the closing minute of yesterday’s premiere episode of the new TV show Flash Forward. Yep, the same show that used “Mad World” in its promos over the summer. Watch the very end of the video, and you tell me, does the mysterious figure look familiar? It’s a very fuzzy shot, but some people think it’s Adam. People commenting on youtube are split – some say it is him, some say it isn’t. I have to say, the more I replay the video, the more it does look like Adam to me.

I didn’t see the show yesterday, but it was rerun tonight, and I watched it. It’s a strange Lost-esque kind of sci-fi show revolving around the mystery of why everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and sees a glimpse into their future life during those moments. The mysterious Adam-figure is caught by surveillance cameras walking around during the exact time everyone else on the planet has blacked out.

So what is going on here? I don’t mean with the plot of the show, but with us thinking we see Adam. Do we have Adam so much on the brain that we see him when he really isn’t there? I’m reminded of those word puzzles where all the vowels are removed from words, and yet we can still read the words and know their meaning. When the mind sees a blank spot, it fills it in with what we expect to see. Is that what’s happening to us?

Or is it really Adam, filmed in his short scene by the TV producers in order to tease and tantalize us into watching more episodes of the show?

What do YOU think? The facial features are fuzzy, but the general shape of the head is Adam’s. The hair is Adam’s, and the coat looks like Adam’s long Mad World coat (remember the Mad World vocals in the promos – the puzzle pieces seem to fit!).

I think it’s Adam. I see some savvy TV people cashing in on Adam’s popularity to get ratings. Cast your vote below – yes, it’s him or not it’s not, and tell us why!

~~Jeanette, Glamb #5

You people are insane. Do you have any idea when the pilot for Flash Forward was probably shot? Most likely during the time Lambert was on Idol. When he was appearing on American Idol and under contract by FOX. Plus, why the hell would an anxiously-awaited, big-budget TV show (developed by the producers of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) featuring a notable cast and surrounded by promising buzz need an AMERICAN IDOL CONTESTANT to bring in the viewers. Secondly, shut the hell up about Mad World.

No, really. Shut the hell up about Mad World. Yes, this preview used Lambert’s version of the song, however, this promo appeared on iTunes — not on ABC. It may have been easier to secure the licensing for a limited-use promo with a song licensed only by iTunes. While the Andrews/Jules version is also available on iTunes, licensing this version would have been much more difficult. (For instance, when you see any film trailer, does the music ever sound familiar? Probably. This is because studios often use another film’s score as a soundtrack for a film’s trailer because the film’s score has yet to be complete.)

Mad World is not an Adam Lambert song. Adam Lambert covered it on American Idol. Besides the perfunctory release on iTunes, Adam Lambert’s Mad World was not released as a single. Mad World is originally a Tears for Fears song. Adam’s version is not an original take on it. It’s a cover of the stripped-down, Michael Andrews and Gary Jules rendition, which a memorable part of the 2001 film, Donnie Darko. I thought this was widely known and understood by now, no?

Anyway, Many Glamberts are quivering in their glitter panties, speculating about Lambert’s involvement with Flash Forward and how it appears he is an INTEGRAL part of the show’s core mystery, of which there is ZERO evidence except for a guy with emo hair wearing a black trenchcoat. (I also would bet $50 that I could find some idiot talking about how this must mean Lambert is going to be cast in the third of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.) Because Adam Lambert is the first guy to walk around with uber-styled hair in all black and a long black trench, right?

Holy Goosebumps! It’s a Adam, hold your breath moment! This is so freaky.
They totally copied Adam’s artistry & look! What a compliment, and everybody is calling my house, and asking me , if this could be Adam?? They all know I am a big Adam Lambert follower.
This is very spooky!

Seriously, people. The tour is barely over and you guys can’t handle waiting for his single and album, can you? Oh no. Of course not. I mean, because Adam Lambert is the most talented person in the world so there is no way all of the earth’s citizens can survive the cold, dark, long wait until November 24th [Lambert’s debut LP’s release date].

I DIDNT REALLY NOTICE THE FIRST TIME I LOOKED AT IT, THEN WHEN IT WAS MENTIONED
I LOOKED AT THE SHOW AGAIN, AND…. I DO THINK IT IS HIM!! HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE IF IT IS, THIS SHOW DID GREAT IN THE RATINGS , BEATING THE OTHER NETWORKS, I THINK IT IS BECAUSE WE ALL THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO PLAY “MAD WORLD” BUT THEY DIDNT!!

Guess what? I, too, can Flash Forward to the future with a prediction of my own — you people will STILL be batshit crazy.

I must admit that Flash Forward is NOT exactly my type of show, BUT, Id heard Adam’s MAD WORLD in the promo’s and couldn’t wait for the first episode. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear Adam. I guess we, as in fans, are so hungrey for the sight and sound of him, he just may BE, a shadow in the dark! Ha! Yes, I too, am looking forward to his CD/Video, whatever! Shoot fire, Id buy a new toothbrush if Adam’s pretty face was on it!

Thank you! God..Thank you Top idol….There are adam fans out there who are not batshit crazy and are actually normal..but then you have fans who are basically the reincarnation of the Claymates…These people that keep bombarding news articles, polls, and shit and making it all about Adam..It happened with Clay and it basically ruined his career in music…Keep it up cause the same can happen to Adam.

I will say that I find Adam really talented, but seriously Adam fans: cool your jets! If you want to support him right, just wait for his CD and buy it…If someone is going to trash Adam, deal with it! Not every single person on the planet is fucking head over heels in love with Adam..and stop saying that Adam is the next Elvis, MJ, or Freddie Mercury..Newsflash: Adam will never be them..he could never touch their iconic status..Nobody will.

Honestly, I dont understand the hoopla by AI fans regarding this song. The M. Andrews/G. Jules’ beautiful version was popular before Adam copied it on Idol. Jericho used it back in 2006 at the end of an episode (just finished watching season 1 on netflix) …so now another sci-fi world ending series uses it for their promos. With or without lambert, that song would most likely have been used by ABC/FF producers. Its quite fitting.

Then why did you post this (under a different name) back on August 11th?

this is a fucking family oriented tv show, not a rock concert, nor is it worthy of a dissertation…. it is low class, ill mannered and extremely inappropriate selfish behavior perpetrated by low class, ill mannered and selfish women who should have a clue. i am so sick of lambert’s fans and their excuses and attempts to justify this appalling behavior. in all my years of watching idol, and going to the tour shows, i have never seen a group of people so rude, delusional, petty, selfish.. i liked adam on the show, but since the show, and the crazy in his fans started coming out, it has changed my attitude toward him… i don’t hate him, i just cannot get past someone like him having such disgusting pigs for fans, and i refuse to be seen at a show, or linked with them in any way. stop the madness people, have a good time, but respect adam, respect the other audience members and the children who are in attendance.

I am a glamb. I am a 49 year old woman who is crazy for Adam. I love the way he sings, the way he looks, the way he talks. I have pictures of him on my desktop at work, at home and he is the wallpaper on my computer screens and cell phone. I have over 225 pictures saved in my “Adam folder” on my desktop. I google Adam Lambert every day. I save articles that somewhat explain why I love him see here- http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/popvox/archive/2009/06/10/why-cougars-crave-idol-runner-up-adam-lambert.aspx
I spent a weekend in the summer going to and waiting at the venue the Idols were playing at to get a glimpse of him – I did also see the concert, but the venue was so close I went before and after each showing and waited for hours. I loved every minute of it and all the people I met doing it.
    But here’s the thing.

The first line of your blog -(You people are insane)-is correct. I am insane, crazy, nutty. However I know it. So I agree with you, we are one kooky bunch. I enjoyed your blog it and agree with your observations that everything Adam or possibly Adam sends us crazy. I was able to laugh at myself and my silliness for thinking the end of flash forward could have been him. That does’nt mean I have’nt watched it several more times, and I still get a thrill that there is a small possiblity it is him. I even have my 71 year old mother hooked on him. He is just delightfull I make no apologies.
What I cannot believe is how upset some “Glambs” or “Glamberts” get from an article that makes fun of our silliness. We are silly- I love that at this age I enjoy being silly. I don’t take make self so seriously that I cannot read what you said and do anything but laugh at myself.
Kudos to you also Diva Kalina.

Thank you, thank you. Though I’m not a “Glambert” or Glamskank or any other kind of Glam I can relate a bit. I like him and Kris, but my favorite Idol is the guy that won last year…for those that may not remember it was David Cook (I don’t expect all to remember, just like I don’t expect everyone’s heard of him). I joined the fan boards, I bought 4 copies of “The Record” as we called it and went to see him twice. I also frequent VFTW, Idletard, and here. How can I do that, some may ask? Doesn’t that make me a “traitor” or not a “true fan?” Pfft…some would say I’m not a true fan because I’ve ONLY seen him twice, or I ONLY bought 4 copies of his album. I haven’t spent the night freezing outside the venue, I never waved a sign, never wore a handmade shirt (though I confess to buying one piece of official merch), never bought him a box of Cheez-Its and sure as hell NEVER believed I had a “chance” with him. Besides, I’m married (not that I don’t fantasize…but hey, husband subscribes to Playboy so he loses the argument). So I figure I already lose in Battle of the Tard All-Stars. Might as well come to sites like TopIdol and Idletard, laugh at myself, the absurdity of it all, and the fact that yes, some members of your fanbase (and mine) are indeed batshit crazy. Will Adam be the next great supastah? I don’t know. Will Cook? I don’t know. Will Ole Miss ever win a national championship? I don’t know (eh, honestly? Naaah…). Will the world indeed end in 2012? Once again, say it with me, with feeling…I DON’T KNOW. But what I do know? Is there’s no need in stressing over things I can’t control. And we can’t control ANY of the above. No, no matter how hard you try, a small concentration of Adam fans cannot MAKE him a supastah. You need Michael Jackson (or heck, Taylor Swift) numbers to do that. And you don’t have them.

And don’t forget…many of y’all WILL drift, start watching Season Nine SWEARING it’s only to watch Ellen or the trainwrecks, and you will find someone. You WILL find a replacement, as hard as that is to hear. Or, hopefully (and I really do hope for y’all’s sakes), real life will take over, and you will remember what was truly important in your life. Your family, your children, your friends, your REAL life. Not the fantasy tv “heroes” 19E present to you every year.

I want to leave you with one of my favorite lyrics…no, not from Adam. From Jimmy Buffett: “If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.” Laugh, y’all. Don’t take all of this so seriously, because it’s not. Laugh, or you WILL go insane…and I fear for some of you it’s too late.

I am a Glamb… and what you ALL are doing is absolutely hysterically funny to me! Seems as tho so many don’t have a life other than blogging/tearing down someone else’s opinion. What ever happened to tolerance for someone else’s view point? I, too, made a comment months ago on the Glamb site…. just an observation and it was trashed and dismissed as “treason” or something… oh well…. I just blew it off as another zealot in desperate need of attention. I absolutely love Adam and thought he was the best on the show by far, but that was my opinion and others obviously thought Kris was the best (go figure… hee-hee!), but when I dared to make a statement not in keeping with the slobberfest going on, I was ridiculed. Too bad because it took away my joy of reading some of the articles and notices and I don’t visit that site much anymore.

Were just having fun supporting adam. Whether you join in on the fun is your choice, but please don’t try to stop us from having fun. And if you stop liking adam just because of his crazy fans, then you were obv. not an adam fan in the first place. Sure, maybe ppl r going a bit too far saying hes the next elvis, or hes gonna be bigger then the beatles. But so what? Were just having fun, and no matter what happens we’ll always support adam. I could care less if you write negative things about him. Thats your choice. Were not forcing anyone to like him or support him, were just doing our own thing and supporting other glambs/glambskanks/glamberts ect. So all those crazyy adam fans, seriously guys just calm down. Don’t even waste your time. They can write w.e they want. It only matters what the true fans think of him. Like adam says, try not to take things too seriously all the time. Smilee(:<3

A LOVING NOTE TO THE OUT-OF-TOUCH ADAM LAMBERT FANBASE aka THE COUGS FROM YOUR BIGGEST FAN, DIVA KALINA.

HELLO COUGS MCGOOS! Since my girl Libby and I recently became the “Bonnie and Clyde” of American Idol concerts and then Idol Tour Recaps, I have been purely SHOCKED by the antics of you Adam Cougs and Fantards.

Where do I begin? In defense, first, of my GIRL (not boy, not tranny, not Adam Lambert, not hermaphrodite) my GIRL Top Idol : she is an extremely intelligent, well-written, well-spoken, free-wheeling, fun-loving indivual who offers up Idol news and up-dates so you sex-starved, puffy-paint nightmares can get your fix, SO THANK HER. RESPECT HER. LOVE HER. Appreciate her uncanny ability to smell your horrid, reaking bullshit from a mile away. She is certainly not getting rich ‘n famous over this.

What defines a Glambert? One who has not had sex with her husband since Adam’s debut on American Idol? or is that a Glam? What’s an Adam Bomb? Is that a bitter divorcee who finally felt the urge to blow the dust off her pocket rocket after seeing Adam sing Cher? Regardless of what terrifying subcategory of Adam fan you fall under there are still some common thread between the sectors: You’ve all lost touch with reality and Adam still ain’t touchin’ YOU! Give yourself a break from expressing your love through the art of the blog, and make a trip to IdolTard’s page so you can truly get a glimpse of how you appear to the world around you. Treat it like “A Glambert Carol” and you can see the ghosts of your Christmas’ to come.

Adam Lambert is famous now, he may get more famous from this point. He will be every where, he will do TV and movies, he will collaborate with other artists, he will record albums, he may even let a sex tape leak to the press – GET USED TO IT. I don’t think you need to saturate your Glam-panties at every move he makes. No one cries over you when you yell “Bingo” at the American Legion or blow your pay check on holiday sweaters at CJ Banks, or even when you dance horribly at weddings, so who cares if he’s on Flash Foward, or if his songs are? You hens need to find something vital and important in your personal life to cluck about.

I love you Cougs. I want you to get well. I want you to be able to once again prioritize and once again take stock in your own lives, and not the life of that hot, talented homo. He loved me when I met him…he loved me because I was a drunk, down-to-earth equally hot homo. He was relieved to see someone that does not have a vagina, especially one that has been around through ten or more Presidents, that had some where-with-all to see him as a person, rather than the Holy Grail. I say to you now Cougs, yes Adam is a good singer, yes he is stunning, but he is not or never will be a part of your life. The decisions Adam Lambert and his team of handlers make for the future of his career are strictly for his financial benefit – not because he spoke to a higher power to which resulted on him being on your favorite ABC show…HE WILL NEVER REACH OUT AND TOUCH YOU my sweet Cougs, and why? Because he is in a West Hollywood trash bar touching Drake LaBry – his boyfriend. COMPOSE YOURSELF NOW COUGS – so your loved ones can get one moment of clarity from you before Season 9 starts. It is OK for you to love someone’s music, and it’s OK for you to find someone visually appealing – however, the lengths that some of you have gone to do not appeal to Adam Lambert, but rather Betty Ford. At some point you must ask yourself, what are we fighting for? In your mundane, day-to-day lives Adam Lambert is as ficticious as Edward Cullen. He exists only in your twisted psyche.

Remember Cougs-McGoos – this is not to hurt you, only to make you stronger.

I SUPPORT YOU, FOR I LOVE YOU, I UNDERSTAND YOU – I AM ONE OF YOU!

    XOXOX

Is it actually any of your business what people think or not think about Adam?
Is it true that in your lonely existance, you have decided to pick on a little subject just to piss people off and acquire some ”self-importance”?

Did your mother ever tell you ”If your not going to say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all?”

But that wouldn’t be the point of a snark blog. (which is what this is) If you guys are so offended, stop continuing to provide the fodder. There are fansites for your sort of thing. TI is not going to turn her blog into an Adam fansite. This is a “fansite” for those of us who like to poke fun at contestants (generally Danny), OTT fans (yes Glamberts or offshoots thereof), even ourselves.

It’s just harmless fun. Seriously do you not see that the ones who provide the most material to ridicule (ie Danny: Scream On, Harp music, the Pastor Rolex connection, the dead wife photo, hand-hearts) are the ones who get made fun of? You guys are a gold mine.

Well, I am a huge Adam Lambert fan and I watched Flash Forward. Not because of anything to do with Adam, but because the show sounded pretty fresh and interesting. I thought the show was good and didn’t think anything about Adam, until now. After reading your article and looking at the clip again, it looks very similar to Adam. But, my question is why do you care what other people think? Adam’s fans are not hurting you or anyone else for that matter. If you don’t want to listen to his music, don’t. If you don’t want to read what people think about him don’t. Why are you being so nasty? Why write an article about it? To get some recognition by using Adam’s name?

I think this is an unfair comment – many charities use celebrities to help raise funds and here you are criticising the people who donated because it happened to be their fave celeb this time. You say you work at raising money for charity – do you never use celebrities to help you? Is there never an incentive to help raise more – even just a chance to meet the person or see them in the flesh.

Whether I’m an Adam fan or not I think it dreadful that you would condemn donators because they wish to support their fave celeb and his charity of the moment.

The Borg (Star Trek TNG) is a collective that takes over other societies and incorporates them into its “hive.” They have a huge cube-like ship that travels the universe threatening other worlds. Once incorporated, beings that were once individuals become robotic parts of a group and have no will of their own. Resistance is futile. If you defy them, they destroy you.

        Not a bad analogy.

I’ve seen several comments here and elsewhere defending the crazy behavior of some (not all) Adam fans by referencing the charity drive, and I need to say something. Donating money to a good cause does not make ridiculous behavior any less ridiculous.

My day job is fundraising for a nonprofit, and let me tell you, we’re all struggling right now in this economy and grateful for any support we get. My organization has actually done some work with DChoose, and I’m ecstatic they got this cash infusion; the people there are great and do amazing things.

For those fans who donated “in Adam’s name” I applaud your generosity. I know many of you had not given to DC or to education previously. I do wish that, for some of you, it hadn’t taken your wanting to feel more connected to a celebrity to do so (and I’ve seen plenty of comments on other boards alluding to this). I hope you continue donating to DC and other causes because you think it’s the right thing to do. Sadly though, I bet several won’t now that they think Adam’s not watching them anymore.

Beyond that, you’re mistaken if you think your donation gives you a free pass to act like an idiot without getting called out. You’re a fan and you want to write pages and pages on how much you love your object of obsession? Fine. A blogger like TopIdol finds you laughable and wants to write about it? Deal. But don’t go hiding under the blanket of “oh, I and/or my fellow fans gave some money to kids” to make you feel better when you act absurd or see some big bad blogger discussing your absurdity.

The charity’s not going to give your money back because you say some dumb shit on the Internet. But people aren’t going to stop laughing at the dumb shit you say on the Internet because you gave some money to charity.

      Smur…I want to hug you!!!

THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! I agree with everything you said.

While the money raised on DC was great, the majority of those who donated did it in the hopes of winning a personal M&G with Lambert. I would not have mattered what the charity was for, sadly, they would have donated because he attached his name to it.

Thanks TopIdol. Normally I just laugh at these crazies, but really, they want to use charity donations – that they only gave because some singer told them to – to defend their assitude? Does it matter why people donated? NO, it shouldn’t. All that should matter is they DID donate. Do YOU think the kids that are benefitting from those donations care why? You know that expression about car wrecks and such? This is an example.

I have no beef with people who like Adam. Or David, or Carrie or any other Idol. It’s those few people who make said Idols (or another artist, or a sports team) a central focus of their lives that worry me. People like that woman from Dubai, or the one who tattooed his eyes on her back, or those who have to turn EVERY article about anything in the world about Adam (like the Slash article in RS, or, oh, EVERY article about Kris on MJs). You really have no idea how you look to normal people, do you? Y’all really remind me of those right-wing nuts that turn EVERY blog and news story into an “Obama is a Commie” argument, or evangelical Christians (you know, the ones that “fixed” the AI vote and “stole” the title from Adam?).

Go back and look at the long-ass post I wrote again…I think it starts with “Thank you, thank you” and I talk about the need to laugh at myself, the Idols, and this whole mixed-up crazy world. I should have also mentioned that we all need distractions from the pressures of life. Despite how my frequent posts make it appear otherwise, I DO have a life and have other interests. And let’s face it…we need to be bitchy and snarky on the Internet because we can’t do it in real life to the people we REALLY want. There are studies showing how stressed out the world is, because we WANT to punch someone, but can’t.

Okay, I think I’ve gone completely off-topic now and delved into a treatise about the Internet and its role in the collapse of modern civility. Apologies and back to work!

I do think that the “stranger” has been typecast to look like the idol we saw sing “Mad World” at the finals. At least similar. And even though you are so right, the song is not an original for Adam, but him singing is the version those silly producers choose.
Non-the Less, I don’t think Flash Foward will need too much of a catchy pulicity stunt because I think it’s going to be a winning serial show. You see Adam is a good enough actor to have assumed another character role unlike himself and they would have still raked in the bucks.
But that’s just me, …….take it easy .

Thank you for proving my point, Lucy. A fan who jumps to defensiveness and takes things too seriously. I’m glad I won’t be missed, because I surely won’t miss fans like you either. A scorned individually, really? I’m so glad you know so much about me.

I am a fan of Adam, but I also have a life, a career, a husband, and other interests and artists I like. The world does not fucking revolve around Adam Lambert. I love Adam but its the entitlement and the you have to be 100% an Adam fan to be considered an Adam fan is what kills it. There are other things aside from Adam Lambert in this world. The only thing I devout 100% to is my career, husband, family, friends.

And yes, fans can kill an artist. Want examples? I can happily give them to you. I can’t wait until the album comes out, which I WILL buy, and while I want success for Adam I hope it will put him in his place for you. He is, and will always be, a contestant that appeared on American Idol. He is NOT the second coming of Christ, Elvis, or a rock god of any sort.

He will not be bigger than The Beatles and I can’t wait until my point is proven. And Adam fans running out and buy 100 copies won’t make it that way either, which I know they will.

And I’m sorry, you must have missed my point that I am a fan of Adam, just not as much as you are. And I didn’t know you ruled the internet and could tell me who and who I can’t post about. I’m sorry, isn’t Topidol(who I find witty and hysterical, btw, and doesn’t live in a freaking candy coated world where Adam Lambert is her God, like some) an American Idol board? Wasn’t Adam an American Idol contestant? Damn. I forgot.

I suppose the same could be said about you. If you don’t like to not hear people praising Adam, then maybe you shouldn’t let the door hit you on the way out. Why are you here?Apparently you go scouring for anything Adam in the negative so you can jump on it and make sure your point is heard loud and clear that Adam is AMAZING. I read Topidol regularly, so before you accuse me again, I don’t go hunting for negative Adam things. I just happen to like her blog and her sense of humor. I also happen to live in a world where Adam Lambert does not rule 100% of my life.

      Maybe you should to.

      • September 28, 2009 8:04 am

I am confused. I love Adam like he is a God. It hurt me when he didn’t win Idol. Since Adam I have done many things which I would not normally do (lost two consecutive nights sleep voting for him on Gizmo and then watched the live streaming of the finale from the UK, paid well over what I should have for a copy of Rolling Stone to be sent from Canada, adopted a US address so that I could infiltrate US itunes to get Adam’s AI performances for my ipod, bought an airline ticket and AI tour ticket to see Adam in RI – couldnt make it for personal reasons – but spent out mega bucks anyhow – I read everything Adam related, patrol the fansites for snippets and yep my life has to have a daily Adam fix) BUT I have to say, this article and all the comments have me in stitches. You more realistic people have got us right – we ARE besotted and in love and crazy – and I cannot make any apologies – it is what it is. Maybe he doesnt deserve the hype, yaknow the next Elvis etc, but what joy and excitment he has given me and many others is truly special. I am not even sad to read some of the more negative comments. Nothing can dent my joy. And some of the comments, even the negatives have me laughing out loud – some really funny people here. And anyway, is all just another excuse to talk about my favourite subject! So thank you all for the opportunity.

Let me get this straight, you can’t wait till Adam fans go buy 100 copies of his Album, so you then can make a point that he won’t outsell The Beatles? Ok, you say your an Adam fan, maybe not as “insane” as others you say, but if you were any kinf of Adam fan, why would you want to prove a point like that? Did someone steal your crayons as a kid? Your bike? Why would you want to be rude and crude and even be happy about making a point like that? If that is someone’s dream, why should it matter to you? That is what I don’t get, why should any of this matter to any of you who do not care about Adam? Why does it bother you so much about how his fans act? If it didn’t bother you then you would not be writing about it, making fun of it, talking about it. I just don’t get why it matters?

Been reading the comments on this and have a couple of observations:

    1) the “you don’t think Adam is the second coming of Christ, therefore you are a homophobe” argument. Reminds me of the current “if you don’t 100% agree with all of President Obama’s policies, you’re a racist.” Now, I’m sure there IS a infimintessimal segment of both populations that ARE homophobic/racist. But do not apply that brushstroke to all, please. I’d rather be in a world where people can disagree with Glamberts and/or Obama REGARDLESS of race or sexual orentation, than one where people don’t express their opinion for fear of being branded a racist or a homophobe.

    2) unlike many fans who have “nothing” to do after the tour, thank GOD I have football season. The hype over Adam is really reminding me of the artificially-high preseason rank the media gave to the Ole Miss Rebels football team. They didn’t really earn it and kept moving up on the basis of higher-ranked teams losing (USC, Oklahoma, etc.) until they found themselves ranked as the #4 team in the country. Then they lost to an unranked South Carolina, were branded as “overrated” by the media (which honestly they were…BY THE SAME MEDIA) and dropped to #21. I just wonder who or what will be Adam’s “South Carolina.”

First of all, we are a group of international fans and supporters of Adam. Secondly we are run by a devoted group of well educated and intelligent volunteeers. And thirdly we admire Adam for the great all-round person he is. We think his talent is superb and we are not shy abut saying so, but we are not crazed.

WE do not waste time on negativity and no ‘bashing’ of any kind is allowed on our site. People all around the world can like/dislike anyone they wish to. No one is being forced to follow Adam or buy his music.

What is the/your problem? There have been followers and fansites for every sort of entertainer over the years. The only difference now is that with technology we are able to communicate more easily. Kate’s second paragraph says it all.

You know with all the crap going on in this world lately, it’s nice to have someone that people are excited about. Adam brings a positive energy back in my life I have not had in years. Yes, maybe my life was a little lacking, but still. I just seem to look at things without getting so stressed out. He is a positive person and seems to have such a positive outlook on life. He has affected many people this way.

I wouldn’t use the terms “crazy” or “cult” to describe most of his fans. I would find them to be dedicated and determined to make sure Adam gets as much support as he needs to be famous. His talent speaks for itself, but the support is still required. I find it disheartening that people have to bash him or reporters have to shed any type of negative light on him or his fans. So what if they thought it looked like him at the end of Flash Forward. It’s actually kind of funny if you think about it. What was the harm? Absolutely none.

I just wish people who don’t like him or his fans would just avoid all of it all together. I mean, I’m not a fan of a lot of stars, but I don’t go trolling around their websites or look for articles on them and say negative things about them. I think most reporters simply put Adam’s name in their articles to get hits on their websites. Many articles have been posted about that. That is obviously what the author of this site is doing.

I guess my bottom line is if you don’t like Adam, good. Move on and get a life. Focus on something else.

I heard the “Mad World” promo this summer on TV. They probably used it because it’s such a great song and Adam’s version is current and well known. The promo is short and the song fits it. I am sure it wasn’t meant to cause a mystery. Sometimes these things take on a life of their own. Anyone remember “Paul is dead?”

I am kind of tired of all the “glitter” references that pop-up in the media about Adam Lambert and his fans. It’s getting old fast. But why are reporters so obsessed with people who love him? It’s not hurting anyone so, what is the big deal? It’s all in good fun.

Adam Lambert is a great singer and he seems to be, by all accounts a really nice person as well. Better to admire someone like Lambert than a complete A-you-know-what!

It’s very curmudgeonly to go after people who are just having fun. It’s like you are the fun police. Let the Glamberts do their thing. After all, they donated over $200k to kids classrooms all over the country this summer–on donate.org. That says a lot about who they are–generous. Be kind and generous back because being bitter is not productive.

I’ve listened to both versions of Mad World and sorry, but the song now belongs to Adam Lambert. I would not listen to it unles Adam sang it. Yes, he is THAT GOOD!!! And I did listen to the promo on ABC where they were playing Adam’s version of Mad World and I did watch the show and yes the mysterious guy does resemble Adam. So get over your jealousy and let Adam’s fans enjoy him because he is one hell of a talent to enjoy. I enjoyed his talent and was anxiously waiting for his single release the same way I do other talents but because of you trying to sway people away from him it makes me feel that Adam is bigger than any of us thought so now I will be one of those die hard fans, too. And as much as you refuse to see it/acknowledge it, you’re ruining whatever chance of a career that Adam is going to have. No artist in his/her right mind will want to take Adam seriously if they know they’re going to be harassed by OTT fans.

Do yourselves a favor, take a step back from it all and look at what you’re doing. You’re all embarassing yourselves, Adam, and the rest of the fanbase. Its just a small percentage that give the entire group a bad name. You’re not doing Adam any favors by acting the way you are, and you’re alienating anyone who might want to be a casual fan because they don’t want to deal with the bullshit.

And this country would be a LOT better off if in fact he was nominated (and subsequently confirmed) as the Secretary of Glam Fierceness. The only other serious contender would be Christian Siriano & I don’t think Christian can sing. Although he does design wonderful clothes for size 0 models. yes sTupIdol has a very valid point but the article doesn’t have to be so so negative. as someone else pointed out, these fans donated over 200k for charity in the name of adam lambert. while it was also a competition for whoever donates the most (the prize all Adam-related), many of these fans were touched by the schools’ pleas when they clicked onto the site to donate. Does this good deed also an act of insanity from adam’s fans?

Many of Adam’s fans do not belong to any “fan club” and donated to DonorsChoice outside of the fan club competition you mention. I donated both to honor Adam and to help the schools. It’s a worthy cause and Adam’s popularity and caring has done alot to help. I admire him all the more for it.

If it was Adam, those people would be standing on their feet, applauding him. lol Adam mentioned in an interview some time back that he was working on a top secret project and this could be it, seriously. It’s late so I didn’t read everything here, but I do I agree with you about the use of Adam’s Mad World version over Gary Jules. My 16 yr old son won’t even acknowledge AL’s version, having purchased Gary Jules’ version after watching Donnie Darko. For some reason AL annoys him alot. lol

When I heard they used AL’s version, my first thoughts were: 1.) it was cheaper, 2.) They couldn’t get the rights for Gary Jules.

Anyway, agree with you on why they used the song. I agree on the other crap, too. I certainly don’t want to wish ill will on anyone, but Adam is new to the music industry and his fans need to chill and get some perspecitve on reality.

They watch a Youtube video of the Zodiac Show and proclaim “superstar”. I won’t get into it, but I can’t help, but question why he didn’t become that “superstar” when he was actually performing in the Zodiac Show. Why should x number of years later, watching the same performance on Youtube make him a superstar when he didn’t accomplish it then?

It might come to them as a shock one day to discover just maybe Adam Lambert is only a “superstar” to them.

Kimberley, that Zodiac Show performance that you refer to was barely a year ago. It took place 9/8/2008, just a month or 2 before Adam auditioned for American Idol. And he auditioned for AI because so many of his co-performers and people who saw the show urged him to do so because they saw his enormous potential as a singer and performer.

Verbally Dyslexic … There’s one problem with your logic (besides the fact that it’s flawed). There has NEVER been an Idol before Adam who stirred up the amount of interest. Go ahead and try to argue THAT fact with me because you would LOSE!!! When has an Idol ever been featured on the cover of a major magazine while still in competition on Idol? Adam did. When have you ever seen an Idol appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine within weeks of finishing Idol? Adam did? Go ahead. I DARE you to find one more Idol who has amassed the number of magazine covers and mentions in the length of time he has. You won’t find one because he is unique. I think you just may not be able to see past your homophobic and myopic view of the world. Maybe you should join the OTT Adam fans because then, by being Over The Top, you might be able to actually see from our higher viewpoint what is really happening here. You and TopIdol BOTH need to get a clue about what’s happening here. This isn’t an ordinary AI fanbase building. Adam is something much bigger than you 2 have ever seen. Why couldn’t he actually be the person at the end of the “Flash Forward” initial episode? I personally don’t believe it is him, but I can certainly see ABC wanting to trade on his fame and unbelievably large fanbase. It’s all about business and Adam is also a very savvy businessman.

You can argue all you want, but you guys really, really need to quit with the homophobe crap unless someone says negative things about his sexuality. Which NO ONE on this blog, or MJs, or most other Idol/music blogs. Because no one cares if he is gay. It is a non-issue.

Spewing the “you’re a homophobe if you don’t like Adam Lambert” bullshit is ridiculous. NO ONE CARES THAT ADAM LAMBERT IS GAY. By constantly calling people homophobes, YOU’RE the ones making it an issue.

          September 27, 2009 4:13 pm

Do you think that mentioning the Claymates isn’t an allusion to sexuality? Are fans only considered to be OTT when the Idols they follow are gay? So I think sexuality has been broached but using a backhanded method. And TopIdol you mentioned his Glam Fierceness. That is also an allusion to Adam’s sexuality, make no mistake. Maybe you can’t admit it even to yourself, but to a casual reader, your point and Verbally Dyslexic’s POV comes across loud and clear.

          • TopIdol permalink
            September 27, 2009 4:25 pm

Glam Fierceness was a reference to stuff I’ve heard Lamberts talk about in describing him. All the “Dark Diva from Planet Fierce” stuff.

Neither Verbally Dyslexic, myself, or anybody else on this blog care if Adam Lambert is gay. In fact, I think most of us were excited to have an openly gay Idol contestant. The Claymates are referenced when talking about Glamberts (Lambert Fans, all groups) because they are gaining infamy for their OTT behavior, including many who can’t get over the fact the guy came in second. Those are the similarities. It has nothing to do with either Clay Aiken of Adam Lambert’s sexuality. The fact many of these fans draw these conclusions in the first place is kind of disturbing.

              September 27, 2009 5:05 pm

I sincerely hope you are right about no one caring about an Idol’s sexuality, but your characterization and Verbally Dyslexic’s characterization of all of Adam’s fans as OTT batshit crazy fans is empirically ridiculous, so don’t be surprised if you get a huge backlash over your ridiculous attack on the Glambs and other Adam fans.

If you had done your research and had followed Adams tweets and interviews you would know that he has hinted at “surprises” coming. Then if fans hear his “Mad World” being used on promos for “Flash Forward” plus the location of the stadium the trenchcoated figure appeared in (which coincided with an Adam tour date / location, plus the fact the figure is quite obviously Adamesque in dress, hair, coloring, and movement, why shouldn’t Adams fans add all that up to mean that Adam was featured in a shadowy cameo on the show? You’re on the outside looking in, obviously or you would have understood why Adam’s fans might jump to this conclusion. It really isn’t out of the realm of possibilities since Adam is fairly well-known now in the business and has a good number of fans counted among the Who’s Who of celebs. Did you miss Brian May’s comments on Adams’ 2012 song? Katie Perry’s cape? I’m thinking that YOU are the one that has underestimated Adam AND Adam’s fans.

Let me break it down for you. Pilots for new TV shows are usually shot in March latest for a May preview at Upfronts in NY or Screenings in LA. The lucky ones get picked up for the September or mid-season lineup.

Also, Keanu Reeves did the black trenchcoat thing waaay back. I’d say he’s a bigger star than Adam Lambert, regardless of talent.

No, I did not miss either Brian May’s comments or Katy Perry’s cape (I am also not a fan of her OTT style, just saying). How can I miss it when it has been mentioned in countless comments in countless articles by OTT fans? Yet it seems some people turn to it as an excuse when someone disagrees with their choice. I just don’t enjoy Adam’s musical style and taste. I don’t make fun of it, and I don’t trash it. To each their own.

But the fans are something else. I don’t understand the need to spam popularity polls, or hijack the comments thread for unrelated news just to declare their favourite singer the best in the world. It just affirms a casual reader’s belief that Idol fans are an overinvested lot.

I am tired of mean-spirited people (and you would be one of them) saying that Adam will fail. How do you know? How do you define failure? By all accounts based on what’s happened so far, I don’t think Adam has failed. What other American Idol contestant, winner or runner-up, has received the attention and support that Adam has? Why do you think that might be? Can’t possibly be because he is one of the most talented performers to appear in quite a while? I’m 54 years old, I’m a musician/singer, have taken lessons for the past 7 years from arguably the best teacher in the Southeast (who by the way also loves Adam). Before this past year, I would spend about 5-10% of my free time watching a few fav shows a week, taking in a movie now and then, or surfing the web for on a variety of topics that tickled my fancy. My schedule beyond work and household duties revolves mostly with running my kids around to their activities, bonding time with my dogs, and staying connected to family and friends. This past year though, if it didn’t involve Adam somehow, it mostly didn’t catch my interest. I’ve never been like this about any rising or established star. I’ve gotten to the place where I only give into this indulgence of surfing web once to twice a week, usually late like this, but as you can still see it is about Adam. TopIdol obviously thinks NOT. again why the fuss? let the fans have their illusions and disappointments. i think every celebrity has his/her own share of crazy fans.

Ha. I had forgotten about the novel! Although obviously the author KNEW Adam Lambert was gonna be big, so he wrote a novel featuring him.

      • September 28, 2009 7:37 am

Yes, I believe the author knew Adam from his Zodiac club performances and was so inspired he couldnt resist placing him as the central character of his new book. I believe also that he insisted that it would be Adam Lambert acting the part, not some lookalike otherwise he would not allow it to be filmed. Fact.

Ok, I see. Yes, as in ANY fanbase some fans are over the top. I guess my complaint was you painted a picture as if all fans were over the top. Most of his fans are grounded and based in reality. Some are just having fun with it and yes some get carried away. But all believe he is really talented. The song from the trailer was Adam’s voice and yes a few read something into it. But a lot was in gest and nothing more. Thanks though for taking the time to explain your position.

It’s utterly mind-boggling to me that ANYONE could label Adam Lambert’s performance as “forgettable”. The only way, in my opinion, that someone could think Adam’s performance “forgettable” (I saw it twice – in Charlotte & Philadelphia) is if they had ingested a HUGE quantity of a benzodiazpine (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin) beforehand. Then they would just not remember. Which by inference would make the performance forgettable. It’s the only explanation.

I have to admit, Adam’s performance in Manchester, N.H., the last of the AI tour was forgettable to me. Now listen to why it was…..I sat next to another Adam fan and we were downing the beers and getting all excited for his performance…I drank so much I had a blackout. My friend who drove me there said I had a good time though. My new friend and I danced to all of Adam’s music. Don’t remember a thing! 😦 At least I saw him at the Portland, Me. concert!

I find things to write about, if the mood strikes. I’m not trolling for information or going out of my way to be bitchy. This popped up in my Google Alerts (Yes. I have one set to Adam Lambert because I write an Idol-centric blog.) and I clicked it wondering what the hell it was all about. I thought it was ridiculous, sorry. I don’t know if I would ever have even thought of Adam Lambert when looking at the guy in the show.

The reason I write about stuff like this is because it amuses and amazes me. Some of the fanatical things I’ve seen written about Idol contestants, I’ve never seen written anywhere else. So yes, when something jumps out at me as particularly over-the-top (Mainly when it relates to something else, like a random association with another TV show, that sort of thing), I write about it.

Do I think all Adam Lambert fans are nuts? NO. Just the ones who are unable to maintain any semblance of reason, rational behavior or reality. Which maybe began to amuse / annoy me even more so after I was branded a hater & a homophobe who should be brought up on attempted murder charges. All for no apparent reason whatsoever and most likely because I thought his performance in Boston was forgettable.

I have no problem with Adam Lambert. I like the guy. But his over-the-top fans are ridiculous.

      • September 27, 2009 5:05 pm

If you don’t like them, why are you reading their posts? Can’t have it both ways, dude. No one will ever go ‘over the top’ talking about you in a positive way! It’s funny how some people take someone else’s success as a slam to themselves.

Yeah, okay, some Glamberts are a little over-the-top in suggesting that the pilot episode of Flash Forward got high ratings because one promo used Adam Lambert’s version of Mad World, not because it has a fascinating premise, a stellar writing crew and JOSEPH FIENNES. I’m a Lambert fan, but I tuned in to Flash Forward because of Joseph Fiennes, not to hear a song I’ve heard a gazillion times, now. (I’m pretty sure that promo did air on ABC a few times, though.)

Still, I think it is an interesting coincidence that, having used Adam Lambert’s version of Mad World, not the Michael Andrews/Gary Jules version, for instance, that this footage then appears in the episode of SOME guy sporting a long coat and emo haircut. I wouldn’t want to bet the farm that it is, in fact, Adam Lambert, but I don’t know that I think it’s impossible either.

    • TopIdol permalink
      September 26, 2009 11:53 pm

I think the reason his version was used had more to do with securing rights than anything else. (Only non-ABC shows have used the Andrews/Jules version) I’m not knocking his version (although I have never cared for the ending, but I hate the way most Idol songs end — which I blame on lazy arranging to compensate for the fact the songs have to be what, 1:30-2:00 long?), I just think it is ridiculous to claim Adam Lambert has anything to do with Flash Forward.

I’m know Adam Lambert has a considerable about of fans but not even close enough to account for several millions of viewers. There are lots of people in this country who still have ZERO idea who Adam Lambert is. And they will not know who he is after his album is released. Or maybe they have heard of him, but will never hear his music. And LOTS of young men look like the guy shown in the show.

(As a fan of both Fiennes and John Cho, I can’t watch to watch the show. I need to just delete The Office and fit it have it record opposite Fringe on Thursday nights.)

        September 27, 2009 8:44 am

TopIdol wtf do you even mean securing rights? Adam STILL doesn’t have the rights to Mad World, it’s still a Gary Jules (or whoever) song so they’d still have to get permission from the publisher of the song not the singer. your logic is flawed as to why they used it. They used it because Adam’s version caused such a stir in the media. They knew it would get attention. it’s really not rocket science.

It’s a Tears For Fears song. Good Lord.

The show would need to get permission from the writers (or the publishing company that administers the rights) to use the song, then get permission from the record company to use the recording. It was probably easier to get the rights to Lambert’s version than to TFF’s or Gary Jules’ version. SMH.

You don’t have to be a “hater” Idol blogger or even an Idol viewer to know a lot about Adam’s fans. Adam’s fans tend to flood comments sections of not only AI articles, but articles that have absolutely nothing to do with him. For example, there was a recent article on rollingstone.com about Slash jamming with Dave Grohl and Duff McKagan, but about 90% of the comments were from Adam fans proclaiming that he is OMGTHEBESTESTSINGERINTHEWORLD!!!ELEVEN!!! Fans of Velvet Revolver/G’n’R who wouldn’t be caught dead watching Idol now know that there’s some dude named Adam who attracted some batshit crazy fans.

Ok this explains why I have never heard Mad World in the FF promos since I have only seen the ABC spots (and bus shelter posters). They assume his version will be used on an upcoming episode, as it will somehow also be integrated into the mystery of the missing time and black emo trench man. Of course, the only reason Flash Forward got such high ratings was because millions upon millions of viewers were waiting to hear Lambert’s version of Mad World.

You should be ashamed of yourself for being so all high and mighty. Don’t look down on others because they might not conform to what you think of as “normal”. BTW, there is a difference between Glams and Glamberts. They are two totally differnt groups. actually Clarie, Adam’s Mad World was used in the promos on ABC, I saw it myself several times.

That’s not Adam in the final scenes of FF but it is obvious that the “mystery man” does have very similar phyisical characteristics as Adam…

The show DID use his song for their promos throughout the summer so it’s not like the fans just “suddenly” thought he had a connection to the show.

What I’m more amazed about than the glamberts speculating that Adam appeared in the last few seconds of a television show (and they are doing this on their own boards I assume) is that you idiots clearly spend all your time LOOKING for way to mock fans of American Idol.
