Some Glamberts continue to embarass themselves on RollingStone.com

September 27, 2009

Not all Adam Lambert fans are over the top.

However, the ones who are nuts give the others a bad name.

For example, take the ones who have been spamming the comments thread of a RollingStone.com post about Slash and Dave Grohl. It was essentially about Slash’s upcoming album and who he has invited to record with him.

Naturally, this has something to do with Adam Lambert, as Slash and Lambert met on American Idol. Because Adam Lambert is the second coming of Elvis, Jesus, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Liberace and the Marquis de Sade, as well as a future member of the Obama Administration, Slash will inevitably ask Adam Lambert to play on his album.

You have probably already heard (or read) about this nifty little thread over on RS.com. Hilarity ensued.

Hilarity continues to ensue. These women just won’t stop. Although I have my own opinion about Rolling Stone’s legitimacy in today’s world, it is still one of the leading purveyors of music journalism. While it does not hold the same cache as it did in 1974, every artist still wants to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. And for all the idiotic coverage of useless Hollywood celebrities and similar nonsense, RS still churns out some decent political/current events articles AND remains at the forefront of mainstream rock/pop/rap/dance/alternative/etc.

Whatever Rolling Stone’s flaws may be, I still wouldn’t create a ridiculous “war” by challenging both casual & devoted fans of a man who is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, versus the bored fan base (No more tour! Waiting for the single! The album!) of a guy who went on American Idol. Even if Rolling Stone are themselves “Glamberts” to some degree — Lambert’s cover was their top-selling issue of the year, of course they’re gonna love the guy — they have not inserted mentions of him into all magazine copy.

Fine. Tell me I’m a jellus hater bitch who is ANGRY. I really don’t care. I’m not angry, and I am not jealous of Adam Lambert. Nor do I even dislike Adam Lambert, however, a lot of this fan behavior makes me wary of EVER seeing him live.

And a lot of this behavior, as evidenced on the Rolling Stone thread, might prevent some other music fans, ones who have no idea about American Idol, from ever becoming Lambert fans when they see crap like this posted in various pockets of the internet.

Slash is known to greatly admire ADAM and the two have been rumored to be working together, so I don’t see the problem with ADAM’S fans talking about him here. I may be 61 years young but I know good music and yes I know who Slash is. Plus Rolling Stone Magazine worships ADAM – they have said numerous times that he is the most exciting thing to happen to Rock music in decades. It makes sense that ADAM’s millions of fans around the world would come here to discuss ADAM and try to get away from the many media outlets and blogs that like to slam him. ADAM is already changing the face of the music industry even if homophobia still threatens to block his success. He will prevail, because how could he not? Have you even watched any of his amazing videos from the Idol tour? He had the crowd eating out of his hand. Millions around the world are enthralled with his talent and raw sexiness and his goodness as a human being (his charity raised $2000000 for children!). He is a musical genius who will be featured in the pages of this magazine for years to come. It’s already happening and he hasn’t even released his album yet. Give it up haters – ADAM is an unstoppable force.

His charity raised over $2 MILLION DOLLARS? Uh…? Why are you typing all of this when the article isn’t even about him? And Slash said he liked Lambert while he was a mentor on Idol. I did not interpret this to mean he greatly admires him. (For example, Jamie Foxx told Kris Allen he would record an album with him, but I have heard nothing about them working together on his debut release. )

If Slash teams up with Lambert I’m through with him and I imagine he will lose a lot of his rock and roll fans. Good job Glamberts. Your stupid insane remarks left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Again GTFO

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. So people other than “Idol Hater Blogs” know your M.O. NICE. Of course, this MUST mean this person is a…HOMOPHOBE!!!

why should the fact that slash clearly recognizes adam lambert’s incredible talent lose him rock fans. slash has performed with axl rose and scott weland, and adam’s voice and stage presence is light years better than both of them (plus he’s not strung-out on drugs). and he’s so young! just imagine how amazing he will be to watch after a few years of performing to sold-out stadiums and selling millions of albums around the world?! just because you are not willing to accept an openly-gay man who is not afraid to use his sexual energy on-stage doesn’t mean that the rest of the world is so close-minded. slash obviously can see the future and rock fans should be glad that slash exposed them to a rock superstar like adam lambert. slash, brain may, meatloaf, katy perry – they know what talent is even if you don’t.

I will never, ever, ever understand this rationale. Never. Here is someone nice, normal and understandably frustrated. Her devotion will be questioned, which will be the final straw for her, as she is already questioning her involvement with the more extreme members.

well, I guess my post yesterday asking Adam fans to chill didn’t work. The way I look at it, they have ruined this article for Slash. Please know that not all of Adam’s fans are like this. We love our guy but would never show disrepect to a Rock God like Slash.
Guys, Adam doesn’t need this kind of hysteria…It looks bad.
I wish Slash well with his new album. Peace-Love-Adam

Uh…I don’t think Adam Lambert plays guitar. And I hate when when people use rawk.

Constantine Maroulis is gross

Rawk is slang for the rash a girl gets after sleeping with Greasy Constantine Maroulis.

I REALLY think you’re all jelous of Adam- the new rawk God. He is gonna make Slash look like a 5-year-old playing on a toy guitar. Get used to Adam being around. HE WILL RULE THE ROCK WORLD.

An OTT Adam Fan and proud of it. There are TONS of us.

Hey, lady. Jim Jones wants to buy you a refreshing fruity beverage.

This last post is my FAVORITE. Mainly because November Rain was one of the most indulgent, obnoxious videos ever made. However, it did lead to a hilarious French & Saunders spoof.

@hard rock–you didn’t hear ALL Adam’s pre-idol stuff if you think Turning On, The Circle, Beyond the Sky, etc, etc is all disco. You don’t know what rock is. It’s not Adam’s fault if he is talented enough to do ALL types of music.

@Horace–Why are all Adam fans mentioning Adam in an article about Slash. Hmmm. Could it be that Slash agreed to be a mentor on AI ONLY because of Adam Lambert? And that he may consider Adam doing a track for VR?

And before you accuse me of not knowing who Slash is, I have owned his Velvet Revolver CD for longer than 5 years and my fav video is G&R’s November Rain when he’s playing a guitar solo in a church yard, so stop talking crap.

Ok. Let’s watch French & Saunders, shall we?

This is insane. I had no idea things had gotten so intense. Chill people. Especially Adam’s fans (and I am one for sure). Of his voice that is. But he is not a “rock God”! How can you compare him with Axl and Slash? He needs to prove himself first, and even though he seems to be gearing up to put out a strong album, “rock” is not the first thing that comes to mind- after listening to the 30second snippets. And that’s ok! I don’t think Adam meant to do classic rock- as his FYE single proves (infectious little tune that it is definitely not glam rock but will do well in the club territory).
He is immensely tallented vocally though and I hope he will do well for years to come. But please, nobody touches Slash!

I see Allison as more of a true rock artist then Adam…I saw her live, and La Princesa Mariachi was more rock authentic then Adam could really be…I mean his album is not even going to be Rock..its going to be more on the Lady Gaga/Pop/dance/rock…Though adam uses more then 10 music styles to describe the album.

Look adam fans..he is not a Rock GOD! He does not even have any orginal music out yet…

Oh, so now you’re a chicken who’s too afraid to publish my comment?

Thanks for highlighting my comment I made yesterday. And obviously you didn’t expect I would find out that you used it for your dumb ass blog did you?

You know, you sound dumber than the comments you highlighted.

Remember? We had a run in with each other before when you wrote, “Adam is a big ole queer.” You assured me you wrote it in response to someone else’s blog. But there you go again. Now I wonder why Adam fans are always acting crazy and lashing out on people? Could it be because of crap just like this?

And fans of other people who think we just “scan” for for negative stuff. I read this whole article before commenting, just as I do others. I noticed something though. I don’t see Adam fans going out of their way to google Kris or Danny to write negative crap about them.

Also, as for Adam fans writing comments about Adam on a RS article about Slash? That’s what you all get for using Adam’s name to get more hits. I don’t recall googling Slash’s name. I googled Adam’s.

And if you think my comment about Slash being in November Rain is stupid, then YOU are the one who’s not a REAL slash fan.

    Congrats, idiot.

P.S. This time, don’t block my comment. If you’re too afraid to face the consequences, don’t commit the offence.

F.U. Did you think you were going to get away with using my comment in your asinine blog without me seeing it? FYI. Your blog is dumber than any comment made by anyone on RS’s original comment board.

WTF? Why are you dissing the fact I mentioned November Rain? Or anything I said for that matter? Obviously, you are not as much of a Slash fan as you say you are. You’re just making a laammmmmmeee attempt at slapping something together with your name on it for people to read.

And if you call yourself a true reporter or blogger, you’d at least research the things I said before chalking them up to be a dumb statement by a fanatic fan of Adam’s. It’s not any of our faults that that RS article came up when we were all googling ADAM’S NAME, not Slash’s. So of course, we’re going to read the article and comment on it if if comes up under his name, right? It’s a no-brainer.

If you or anyone else don’t want us Adam fans to comment on their own articles, I have a real easy solution, so easy I don’t know how anyone didn’t think of it before. STOP USING ADAM’S NAME TO GET MORE HITS ON THE WEB!!!!!! SIMPLE, EHH?

Now this is a comment you can post on your dumb blog.

    Congratulations idiot.

P.S. Remember? We’ve already had a run-in with each other when I “found” your email address and sent you a nasty-gram about your “big ole queer” blog you wrote about Adam. Fan worship is not limited to the Lambert fans and anyone who knows anything about music should know better than to suggest the Lambert fans are anything outside the norm.

For example, “The Dead”! I know people who spent their entire summer following them around like they were the second coming and to this day, married with children and careers mind-you, these Dead fans can sit and talk (about that band) for hours like giddy teens. And it’s not just women but so many men who do nothing but “Garcia this and Garcia that”.

Give me a break. Fan worship is universal and not limited to Adam Lambert’s fans. Go on the site Steve Hoffman where all they do is discuss their favorite bands, musicians, LP’s CD’s etc. with burning passion.

Fans of anything whether it’s Lambert or golf do the same thing–obsess about it, period. And there are super-fans like the Lambert fans supporting all kinds of things and have for eons.

This gripe seems to be more about you and less about them. Let it go. It’s not healthy or productive to be so negative about something so trivial.

Calm down. I’m talking about idol bloggers like Rickey and Topidol who keep saying insulting things about Adam’s fans. IMO, they just come across as bitter Kris fans. It’s logical that the contestants with the most fans have many OTT fans. Last season I had major second hand embarrassment when the Cook girls went ballistic after he started dating Kim Caldwell. Like they were nasty and I got into so many arguments with them.

But I honestly don’t take all this fan stuff seriously. Fan behaviour does not translate into an artist’s success, as much as you want it to. Fans of other idols seem to love bitching about Adam fans (and pretend it’s because they care about Adam, saying it “ruins” his career), but they don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

        • TopIdol permalink
          September 28, 2009 12:34 pm

I don’t know if Rickey has ever outright insulted Lambert’s fans, but I do know of several occasions when he was LAMBasted by them for bias or other nonsense, like the controversy over some cellcert.

If it weren’t for this blog, I wouldn’t watch American Idol. I am not very invested in any contestant who has been on the show, in all actuality. When I say this, it means that I do not download EVERY song anyone puts out or see them in concert whenever possible. This year, I attended the AI show b/c it was in Boston and went to Cook show not far away from the area. If I was not doing this blog, I never would have attended either.

Fandom is fun. But seriously, you don’t have to be a Kris fan… or even an Idol fan, to see that this is some serious crazy. Adam is fine. He will be fine,… maybe the nuts will or won’t effect his career (who can tell) . I do know that Cook would be better off w/o the stalkers, Good Lord, the man felt it necessary to make a video to tell them to lay off.

As far as not affecting his career, IDK. Does the music buying public (not the vast majority who use Limewire or some such) participate in online discussions in music forums? If they do, they will end up being exposed to some degree of insanity at some point. (they are already being annoyed at RS apparently) His album is already listed at #1 this morning, so I imagine every article about Kris, or album sales in general will get spammed with that tidbit today.

You can’t get new fans by annoying others (see Jehovah’s Witnesses). If he’s truly great they will come on their own. If his fanbase remains throughout his career to be a rabid cadre of crazies, he’s in trouble. Let the dude breathe.

You’ve pucked a few fan comments out of context from a long string of rebuttals that began simply by a fan mentioning they would also like to see Adam’s involvement on Slash’s album. Adam stated in an interview he keeps in touch with Slash by text, so fans are hopeful a collaboration will come sooner than later. He certainly was impressed by Adam’s powerful vocal talent on the show. Some Adam hater, much like yourself sparked off this defensive reaction, then here you go furthering this frenzy.

As far as your opinion of whether Adam is going to be last years news, or whether original or not, is irrevelant. It is not in his originality of songwriting ability that so many are attracted to him. It is simply his his vocal talent and his charismatic persona on and off stage, that have captivated many adorations from fans around the world like no idol past or present has accompolished. This is already true of many in the entertaining industry that are aligning themselves with him. Is your head so far stuck in … you don’t see any inkling at all of this?

You claim reactions that fans are going through is nothing more than for past idols, which may or may not be relevant. I’ve never felt this way before, so I have nothing to compare. The attention he is getting from the idustry is like none other. Simon Fuller has every intention taking this talented phenomenon international, which Adam has indicated in some other interview, may start taking place as early as Jan. depending on how album is received here. I read something somewhere 19E/Freemantle already has something in the works for this crossover.

Don’t just take my word, or the many batshit crazies you attract like flies to flypaper. You must have heard what Brian May has to say about Adam’s vocal ability to turn him to jelly, and how he was blown away by “Time for Miracles”, expecting it to be a huge hit.

From Rickey.org_not much an Adam fan before, can’t deny the industry buzz he is stirring. Strut, co-written by Kara is getting rave reviews by Entertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone (yes, I read your opinion of RS) He comments further “when my friends whose musical taste I trust are beyond themselves about this single, I believe”.

Andreas Carlsson, who is has co-written song with Max Martin for his album had this to say about his experience of Adam: “Yesterday we worked until midnight on new material to Adam Lambert, whos the talk of the town now, all the songwriters want to be on his RECORD.

Not to mention what his biggest songwriter fanatic Aimee Mayo, had to say about him. “I am Adamcrazy and want to tell everything I want to blast in from my tip-toes from the top of the Eiffel Tower but can’t til I get the OK”. She co-wrote with Ryan Tedder, and sounding like one of their songs for him should be making the cut.

Whether you think he has the ability to be original is irrevelant as well. He will attract the most talented songwriters, because they too sense he will be a huge money making machine for some time to come, and for many valid reasons. I suppose there really is no accounting for taste. What type of artists do you like? Or, are you just playing devils advocate?

I think this is fairly common when it comes to Idol contestants- who would want to pay hard earned money for a concert when you know that the chances are high that 1) the artist will constantly be interrupted or distracted by his fans or 2) your view will be obstructed by homemade “art”? Look at David Cook. In a lot of the videos that have been posted here, the guy just looks tired. And a lot if not most of that tiredness probably comes from his fans.

Besides my utter distaste for Lambert Zealots, I have always had issue with the rock god label. I’ve been scorned for it, taken to task over and over, when I’ve voiced my opinion on the subject of Adam Lambert and rock ‘n roll.

My theory: Adam Lamber wanted to stand out on American Idol. Adam Lambert chose the role of a rocker. He played the part well, finding “rock” material that fit him vocally. He showcased his theatrical background through dance, lighting, and unique entrances. (I recently discovered the original theatrical rock god was on Canadian Idol a fews years back — the leader singer of Hedley. He sang a very interesting rendition of David Bowie’s Major Tom.)

Moving on — When critics and Rolling Stone label Adam Lambert as a Rocker, I admit I do get riled. One reviewer had the audacity to say AL’s WLL was better than Plant’s. What’s that about? All I know is it sets my teeth on edge. Constantine was a cheesier version of the rock god. With both, I saw the deception from a mile away.

Adam Lambert is mad talented, never thought otherwise. But I do wonder when he comes out with his electronic/fusion/disco/pop/dance music,if they’ll still be calling him a rock god. Of course, he’ll grace the cover again, they know the zealots are there for the taking. Hell, can’t accuse the Rolling Stone of being un-American. They’re as capitalistic as the next guy.

I don’t understand why it’s so important to the Glamberts that Adam be recognized as such — rock god. Every word written by them on RS is just one more nail in the rock god coffin. No one’s fooled.

I think fans are defensive cos he didnt win AI is all. I don’t know why he didnt, conspiracy theories abound – he should have really. But his fans – and I am one of them – feel they have to justify and defend him. Just seems that another “minority” figure got stuffed for no good reason. Although I am from UK and no idea who Clay is, I have looked the history up and it seems a pretty similar scenario and the fans were just as crazy then. Maybe people think that it is only homophobia or over-conservatism that stopped Adam winning AI. Because us fans really, really, really like Adam – and in all fairness he has garnered much publicity and much praise as being a standout performer on AI this season – it just seems unfair that he didnt win – like big brother wont let it happen – and the fans feel sorry for the injustice and become overly-defensive. Really it is overly-compassionate, overly-emotional people getting OTT – BUT Adam really is worth the investment – he is entertaining and very loveable. Admittedly, it is a bit silly just how silly the fans can get, I understand that. Just saying why I think that is, is all.

There were lots of fans who felt Clay deserved to win over Ruben in Season Two. Heck TV Guide did a poll and in that, he DID win. Same with Season Seven (remember the video of those girls screaming bloody murder when Archuletta lost?). There will always be “the winner” and the others who get tagged as “losers” whether they deserve it or not. I sure don’t think anyone would call Chris Daughtry or Jennifer Hudson losers. I get that mindset of “why don’t people GET it? Why don’t they see what I see?” I’m a liberal married to a conservative…TRUST ME I get it.

I just get a little perturbed when the overzealous ones go after Kris, as if it’s HIS fault. All Kris did was sing. He didn’t pimp out his LIVING wife, or make a big deal about his missing rib (he joked about it early on but that was it), or talk about how he almost DIED, OMG in Morocco. He didn’t make a secret deal with AT&T. He got votes from a LOT of gay people and non-homophobes. Adam got a lot of votes from people who loved his sound but still think he’s going to hell. I really think that the majority of votes were based on (shocker of all shockers) what music they liked best.

You know, I actually sometimes wish Adam had won, so Kris and Katy could return to Arkansas and have happy, normal lives, without Bitterberts and media elites poking and prodding them.

        LEAVE KRIS ALONE! [/crocker’d]

        • September 29, 2009 4:01 pm

No problem, never had, with Kris. Spose its just a matter of thinking, knowing, that someone is way more talented and they still dont win. Doesnt make sense, particularly when the rest of the country/world, media seems to get Adam more – and certainly seems to want more of him. I know its early days for Adam but signs already are that he will outsell Kris. I was upset that Adam didnt win – not bitter – not against Kris – not any of what you are alluding to – but just looking at the interest in Adam would seem to suggest he is way more popular. And as an Adam fan it just doesnt compute that he didnt win. That he didnt win is accepted, but it is that he didnt win is does help to partly explain why Adam fans are over-zealous in their fandom because it is perceived as an injustice.

I found this post on another AI board the night of the finale which might help explain the “injustice”. Oh, and for the record, this person is not a Kris or a Danny fan, and is decidedly liberal.

“I could’ve sworn that all season there’s a pretty vocal contingent who said they found Adam’s screechy, braying voice to be annoying, his rock musical theatrics were overwrought, he didn’t connect with anything he sang, he was being pimped both on and off the show to an almost sickening degree, and that while Adam is different for the show, he’s a dime a dozen in touring theater companies and Broadway and isn’t that unique. But, they also resigned to the fact that he was Top 2, at least.

Why it’s a surprise now to some that people weren’t entirely digging Adam to vote for him en masse isn’t proof of anything but that they didn’t want his ass to win.”

I understand where you are coming from. It’s absolutely wrong when some one accuse you of being a homophobe, just because you are don’t think Adam is the greatest thing since Elvis. I hope you don’t think all of Adam’s fans are like that. The loud, obnoxious ones are the ones that tend to be noticed and remembered in the minds of other fans. I can assure you not all of Adam’s fans are like that. I would say ignore them, but it’s hard to do that when they are being aggressive and calling you foul names.

Yes Adam do have some over the top fans. Sometimes a few do take any subject and make it about Adam. But i don’t think Adam would change any of us, if he could. We are some of the most passionate and fiercely loyal fans that any musician could want. These are some of the same people who gave over $130,000 dollars to the Donor Choose program, which helped teachers and their students across the country. They are the same ones who crowded the arenas to see him concert after concert. They will be the ones who buy any magazine with him in it and most important they will buy all of his music and merchandise. I know this sounds zealous and sometimes crazy to other people, but they do it because they love him and his music.

Bridgette — I think its GREAT when you do those things for a musician you adore. This is not the stuff myself, or many others, take issue with. It’s the other behavior, a huge example of which is calling people homophobes if they might not think everything he does is the greatest thing to happen to music.

I understand your concern, SarahBeth, but the internets are not serious business, nor do they dictate the path of a career. This is my first experience in fandom, and prior to it, I had NO idea who had crazy fans and who didn’t. The majority of people just buy music they’re exposed to/recommended and like and that’s it. It’s the music, the promotion, and luck that will determine whether Adam becomes huge or fails (or, most likely, somewhere in between). The internet drama is a bit player in the scheme of things.

In addition to never referring to him as Madam on this blog or being a homophobe, I DO NOT HATE ADAM LAMBERT. In fact, I think I preface any post I do on OTT fans by stating the fact I have no problems with the guy.

I LIKE ADAM LAMBERT. I just didn’t think all of his Idol performances were sheer brilliance. I don’t think he is a true original, because what he did on Idol was new to IDOL, but not to music. He just figured out a way to distinguish himself and jumped at an opportunity at the right time. But I think he’s a talented guy. He’s also a burner, and he goes to a good friend of mine’s monthly night at an LA club.

I am genuinely curious to hear what his album sounds like. (Although I do not have high hopes for Time For Miracles just because there has not been a decent guilty-pleasure, shit-disaster-movie anthem since Aerosmith’s Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.) I think he could definitely have tracks I would thoroughly enjoy.

I hope I answered your question, but I already know defending my opinion is futile in a lot of his OTT fans’ minds. And I’m perfectly okay with that.

Thankyou. You’re actually one genuine bitch (and when I say ‘bitch’ its in an endearing tone, m’dear), so yah! The OTT fans kind of just scan anything about Adam Lambert then if there’s any word holding negative connotations surrounding that name they jump to conclusions. I can see it must be tiring for you, to say the least. Actually, in your blogs, you are regarding his FANS, not him.
I didn’t even bring up the ‘Madam’ comment, and I wouldn’t have, because I refer to him as ‘queenly’ or w/e and have never meant that in an ‘evil’ way. For kira’s sake (anime in-joke, ignore it and back away slowly from my nerdiness), even Matt and Alison give him emasculating nicknames and he doesn’t give a shit. There goes that BS argument/issue.

I think you’re completely accurate, however I don’t know how much of his material you’ve seen heard, because there’s some ‘original’ stuff in there, but I know what you mean. You are 100% entitled to that opinion and its a fair one; at least you evaluate him instead of just giving him one glance and calling him a faggot/emo/whiner/etc, which is what a lot of idiots do. You’re in LA? I’m in NZ 😀

I really like Adam, but I’m self-aware of the fact that a) I always need something to fangirl over; usually its anime or something, but Adam got lucky, and I know its that nature of mine that contributes to like, 40% of my feelings regarding him b) he’s a human-being, putting that kind of pressure on him is insane c) I’m not going to attach any hopes or ANYTHING to him, I’ma let this mf impress me :3

fuck that is a long post. sorry.

Mm…I see your point. Good example. But the Twilight fandom is a behemoth. Taking a sample of say, 50 people I know, 40 of them would know about Twilight and 30 of them would have an impression of the Twilight fans, mostly negative. But I’d get much smaller numbers for Adam and almost none for the Glamberts. So, here’s hoping that as Adam’s fanbase expands out of the Idol realm, the OTT fans will become a smaller proportion of the total, and not the other way around. But as for now? I absolutely don’t think the Glamberts’ reputation will “ruin Adam’s career before he has a shot of having one,” simply because they aren’t well known enough to do that. And if Adam ever becomes like Twilight, as wildly successful and as stigmatized? Eh. I’ll take it, over failure, anyhow.
