Female Blogger Who Isn’t Me Also Thinks David Cook Has Mean & Nasty Fans
Paper designer, all-around crafty gal, blogger and mother-of-six (EGAD!) kids, Beth Silaika decided to take her daughters to the David Cook show on Friday night.
Oddly enough, I’ve never heard of this woman until 10 minutes ago but it certainly seems like she has an experience not unlike my own during the Cook show in Northampton this past May. Seems I’m not the only one who encountered batshit crazy wenches determined to push others out of the way and be outright rude to other concertgoers’ faces.
Friday, I surprised the girls with tickets to David Cook. He came to a local club and there were many crazed fans (older women) who refused to let the girls move in front of them (it was a standing room only show). There were very few young girls there (which surprised me) and one woman actually made a comment about my parental judgement because I brought the girls to the show. She told me there would be a mosh pit and they would get injured (really? David Cook?)….some of the women (who I can only describe as the Cougar crowd) were vicious. We ended up going to the side of the room where the was a half wall. The other side of the wall had all the equipment and the side of the stage. The sweetest security guard took pity on their height disadvantage…..so he brought the three girls over to the other side of the half wall….and then escorted them to the front row, side of the stage…where they had the best seats in the house. When David (who rocked the house) finished and walked off the stage with his band….the girls were handed the drum sticks and guitar picks from the set! Needless to say, there was no mosh pit….but we did walk away with lots of memories….
Yay! David Cook is a nice guy! David Cook hates these self-righteous twats. He obviously seems completely aware of this nonsense going on, as security and Cook himself went out of their way to right an obvious wrong. Have you ever stopped to wonder why he seems to be on a never-ending tour? HE IS TRYING TO RUN AWAY FROM YOU PEOPLE WHO RUIN IT FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. If he keeps touring, conventional wisdom would imply many of the overzealous ones would run out of money or just get tired of the running around. But they don’t, causing the poor guy to keep running.
Whacko old women who question people’s parental judgment without any justification and go out of their way to push and shove? Shocking, right. Especially at a concert. You menopausal minions of the anti-christ haven’t figured out how to behave at a rock show yet…after all these months? Of course not. Jesus, I am so naive sometimes, aren’t I? No, you people continue to carry on with this sort of dreadful behavior. You will drive away other casual concertgoers because you are able to keep up this ridiculous behavior since you really don’t go to any other rock shows, or you haven’t since your own mother took you to see the Bay City Rollers. I bet she wasn’t shoving anyone now, was she?
I know a lot of “older” women. And they’re awesome. And they listen to “new” music. And they have fun. They also act like grown-ups, not like goddamned chupacabras.
You’ve also officially changed the meaning of the word cougar, which should have died awhile ago (along with MySpace), however, it once referred to HOT OLDER WOMEN. You’ve made things worse for attractive women over 40 who just happen to enjoy younger peen and an animal-print wardrobe. Just because you’re older and you act like a retard over some guy in his mid-20s you saw on TV doesn’t mean you can proclaim yourself a cougar, even if you do have coarse hairs protruding from several age spots or moles.
One more thing…MOSH PIT??? MOSH PIT??? Do you even know what a mosh pit is? No, it is not when you’re all clamoring to get close to the stage, shoving others and waving Flat Andy Skibs. That’s not a mosh pit. The only thing you asshats know about rock is that you live under one.

And something I wanted to add. Pits at a David Cook concert?? Haha. I would like to see them at a Korn concert…or even at Paramore’s concert. They’re one crazy bunch of moshers.
My first time posting here. Me and my sis love reading your blog. We’re 22 and 18. Anyways I’ve been going to concerts since I was 17. Mostly rock concerts. And when me and my sis went to see David Archuleta last year. I couldn’t believe how many old people there were. I don’t mean like 30 old. I mean like 40+ old, gray hair, could be someone’s grandma old. And also women bringing their 6 yr old to concert at the front to hide their obsession. Also David Cook is coming here in November. I’m not a Cook fan at all, but too bad my sis is in college elsewhere or else we would go stalk out that concert and observe any crazy fans mentioned here.
To me it’s simple… I want Dave to create the songs I have a sneaking suspicion he is capable of. Everything else pales in comparison. I don’t care how, where, when, or who is listening. I’m a selfish fan. It’s all about meeee… And my Ipod.

You know, I’ve never seen him live. He’s been around me plenty of times but it has never quite worked out with school and all. I was under the impression that this kind of thing was getting better. Hmmm.
I really want to hear what the next record is like. Will they let him get more rockier… since that is clearly where his heart is? Or will he have to put out a more HAC version of himself like this time? His crowds will change if the music gets harder. We’ll see.
Tinawina, he is a great live performer, very engaging. I got to see him at the Manila concert, which was fantastic. That man has the potential to sell arenas, but he needs to create a distinct sound, which isn’t there yet.
I am really hoping he gets an edgier sound for his next album. I was disappointed in the eponymous cd, but in hindsight, I guess other than arranging the music on the show, there was nothing truly edgy in his arrangement style. Too many rock ballads, not enough sass. Also, the fact that I fell headlong into a love affair with Kings of Leon at the time of the album release might have dampened my enthusiasm somewhat.
However, if he continues to generate middle-of-the-road type of rock, I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore. God knows I enjoy his sense of humour, If only he can inject that in his music a little.

I’m normally with you but this post brought me out of lurkerdom. I just had to point out that:
a) the blogger has entitlement issues of her own. (You bring children to a GA Rock concert with the EXPECTATION that people will allow them to move to the front so that they can see? Naive at best.)
b) she is the same age as the Frauen and could easily be one who uses her children to get attention from Cook. (And in fact, did that.)
I’m not saying the Frauen aren’t some mean-ass entitled crazies, but you may have missed the forest for the trees on this one.
Yes, I am in full agreement with you on that. Who brings kids to a concert? BTW, I saw David Cook perform at the GMA concert. He really doesn’t have much of a personality. He sings well but I found his performance blah. As for Cook’s crazy fans…out numbered at least 5 to 1 by Glamtards and their obnoxious, poorly designed, home-made signs that blocked everyone’s view. They are a self-entitled lot. Not all, but most.
The desirable demographic you would prefer David Cook to have is not home watching Idol two nights a week. These 18-25-year-olds are out living their lives. This is why most of the winners suck, why the show is deemed cheesy and why few former idols succeed. These old bats are the ones voting, and essentially creating the opportunity that these winners have. The good news is that this older demographic is more likely to remain a life-long fan than someone younger. This older demographic has more disposable income and therefore will spend money on the prime seats and merchandise. They also tend to buy hard copies of cds rather than individual downloads. As undesirable as they may seem they provide the David Cooks and Clay Aikens with more long-term security then someone like John Mayer will have with his more desirable audience. Let me ask you this; in ten years who will be buying David Cook’s Album, those two little girls or the old bats?
They will spend money on prime seats and merchandise until the next Idol season catches their eye. The ones who stay on will keep behaving like entitled bitches at the live shows and drive casual fans away. These days the money isn’t in album sales anymore, it’s in the tours and live gigs. If he can’t build a fanbase from casual fans who are younger and can grow with him by coming to his live shows, he is doomed.
And I’m not sure what long-term security Claytards have provided Clay Aiken, but I assure you, as douchey as John Mayer can be, he is sitting on a much larger pile of money than Clay because his music sells cds and arenas.
Clay Aiken will never go hungry. Claytards are devoted to him like a cult. They will buy what ever crap he turns out. They will attend every cheesy-Vegas-adjacent venue his pasty ass is performing. David Cook is not Clay and his self respect may cause him to scorn the over zealous fans that plague him. However, in doing so he runs the risk of backlash and subsequently undermining his security. (Dependable fans not casual fans are every performers security.) I don’t think someone from Idol should expect respect on the world stage. It probably won’t happen and what he is experiencing now, in terms of success, is probably as good as it’s going to get. Yes, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson seem to be the exceptions but, they also have publicly distanced themselves from the show. Daughtry and Hudson where not winners, clearly proving that the voting audience doesn’t know talent when they see it. As for Kelly, the one thing I did know about her before this season (when I officially discovered her), is that she has had ongoing control issues with the Idol assigned 19 management team. Her willingness to stand up to them may have given her credibility. Even with her being the most successful winner, I don’t see her as a superstar by my definition. I omitted Carrie Underwood because Country Music is a different scene then pop music and I assume she’s doing well but I’m sure there are die-hard country fans that find her as ridiculous as we find Clay Aiken.
I appreciate that David Cook keeps it classy at his shows but it’s perfectly okay to tell the crazy fans to step off. By doing nothing he’s not respecting other fans who get treated like shit at his shows. And they won’t be going to other shows if they keep getting that same treatment.
Or maybe he thinks being rude to the old frau is like a slap in his mother’s face.
I saw David Cook at Foxwoods in August. It was pretty tame. A lot of older women. I was hoping it was the venue, rather than a typical audience demographic for DC. When the house lights went up, DC looked over the crowd and I knew he was thinking the same thing I was thinking — I mean we’re talking geriatric set and, of course, the cougars at his feet, pressed up against the stage.
An older woman from the row behind me had gone off somewhere and got lost on the way back to her seat. Her friend asked me to call to her, telling me her name, so I’m yelling at the top of my lungs, trying to help this confused older woman back to her seat as DC was taking the stage. It was ridiculous.
I have to say it was one of the weirdest concert I’ve ever been to (crowd-wise), but I knew it was a concert my 12 year old daughter and I could enjoy together. I took two of my nieces, as well. They all left the concert loving David Cook, even the 19 year old. That’s the demographic he needs.
He needs a kick-ass album, more rock and fewer ballads. As far as “power” vocals, I prefer his over Daughtry and Lambert’s. Just feels authentic. Maybe when another Idol starts touring, DC will finally be free … one can only hope.

I’m afraid it might take some drastic action to stop those ugly idiots. They all seemed to be behaving with some slight decorum outside of the Paramount in Ch’ville yesterday but then again DC wasn’t around. They are effectively killing his chances of having a long lasting music career.
This doesn’t surprise me. I was at an OKC DC show in June and ended up in the middle of a fight… my friend and I were in the “pit” and a girl tried to shove past us, and elbowed my friend in the eye as well as threw a cup of water at her. Never mind that we were letting people through who were behaving like civilized humans… anyway, it ended up with security getting involved and a couple of women threatening to press charges against us. His fans scare me.
They are scary, scary vicious women. The show I saw in May. Jesus Christ. Never seen anything like it. Normal people just don’t behave that way.
No such thing as “normal” in this type of Idol crowd. Saw a woman at the recent Idol staples show attempt to cut the bar line. It was embarrassing…she actually told her husband “just watch me, I know how to talk to men”. She was over 40, fake boobs (although the money should have been spent on fixing her face) and frizzy, overdone blonde highlights (think Heather Locklear in TJ Hooker). She got turned down, not once, but THREE times at the bar from the lovely little foreign bartender who told repeatedly to get back in line. Her husband got into a conversation w. those around us…one guess on what Idol she came to see 🙂 Im afraid of the stories we will hear a yr from now about his shows. Cook making a video expressing his concern over these wackjobs, Glambert skipping the Meet and Greets..helllllllooo ladies. They are scared of you! And they are annoyed. Please do us all a favor and just go into menopause quicker…maybe that will keep you at home.

Yeah. I’m thinking of bringing a sharp, concealed object to just drive into the thighs of anyone who pushes into me at my show. I should be able to rig something up.

I think David Cook needs to take the opposite tactic. After all, isn’t the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results (or definition two, see the picture of the batshit crazies)? The crazy fans won’t stop, not until they don’t have anything to chase anymore (the fact that some of these loons know WHERE HE LIVES scares the shit out of me).
He needs to STOP touring, get into the studio and start working on the next record. Let the batshit crazies latch onto AI9 and find a new shiny toy. Then maybe the sane fans will come back out of the woodwork for him when the “all-clear” is called and it’s safe again.
I was at the show the other night and I felt bad because there was a girl who was in her teens who was shorter then I was behind me and some other people. I wanted to put her in front of me (was front row) but was being pushed from both sides and there was no way I could step back to let her move in front of me without losing the spot altogether. I had space behind me so it would have been fine, plus I could have been able to see over her head. I apologized to her and she said she was fine because she could see between me and the girl to my left and as long as the crowd didn’t shift she would be ok.
I felt bad the entire time because I know what it’s like to be short and stuck behind people. She seemed fine though as I’m not that tall and the girl next to me wasn’t either.
Glad that things worked out for the good for the woman in your blog. (the concert really was fabulous)
