Oh crap. Adam Lambert poses in Details with naked girl model.

October 17, 2009

Adam Lambert -- Details Magazine (December 2009) #4

I decide to go out, buy some new shoes and pick up butter at Trader Joe’s and the internet breaks again.

Yeah, I am gay, Lambert says. But I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty.

Stop giving the lunatics hope! Although I need to give credit to Details, perhaps, a men’s magazine which always seems to be straddling the middle of the Kinsey Scale, to create a “provocative” spread with Adam Lambert and a real-life chick. I’m more impressed with the photographer and editor — nary a potmark or evidence of heavy-ass makeup.

Adam Lambert -- Details Magazine (December 2009) #1

But hey, kudos to Lambert for acknowledging the only man who should be having panties thrown at him, a Mr. Tom Jones.

Adam Lambert -- Details Magazine (December 2009) #2

Lambert also admits to doing some blow. Big deal, although I remember him saying he didn’t touch the stuff in Rolling Stone, no? Really makes no difference to me, although you can’t convince me he didn’t also drop some E at Burning Man.

I am not all that well-versed in the Kinsey Scale, but as blacklisted stated, “in sexual desire, Adam is a 6.” I agree. Whether he is 4.8 or 5.9, he most definitely isn’t bisexual. I, also, agree with blacklisted about this not being representative of women’s sexual fantasies. If that were the case, Adam would be wearing far less. Of course, this could be “EVE” as seductress turning “ADAM”.

A heterosexual (wife and mother) female writer of slash fanfiction summarized it like this (paraphrased): I’d rather see my favorite character/actor with a man than a woman. If I can’t have him, neither should another woman.

…and there you have it. The be-all, end-all reason for the existence of slash. To envision the object of affection in purely sexual terms without letting jealousy or envy of another woman muddy the waters.

Which is why I’ve always thought slash fan fiction is a huge waste of time.

Lambert looks like he’s ready to hurl when his head isn’t too far from the snatch. Kind of reminds me of the time in SatC when Sam went to bed with the two gay men who couldn’t get over the smell of her crotch.

Quite honestly I really want Lambert to appear on the Senior Living magazine interviewing about how he might be interested in smooching people (men/women doesn’t matter) older than him. With pictures of Lambert groping Joan River’s breasts and Dick Clark’s well… thingie while his tongue sticking out. Because, you know, elderly, they’re purty and cute. And because he is open-minded that way.

Haha. I hope this gets rid of all the AI-watching prudes in his fanbase.

I’m also kind of impressed with how full out they’re promoting Lambert. Mag spreads, a video premiering before the MJ movie and such – it could reap a lot of money if it pays off.

I think someone’s sexuality should never be an issue…with anything. I’ve always thought TV shows like Will & Grace did a disservice to the gay community, and Queer As Folk. I really enjoyed Six Feet Under because it showed gay men as real people with real everyday problems which had nothing to do with being gay.

And I think Neil Patrick Harris is one out & proud celebrity who does it right.

How does NPH do it “right”? (and I LOVE NPH don’t get me wrong) Does he take his boyfriend on the red carpet? does he live his life truly out and proud, doing all the same things that his hetero counterparts do? I don’t think he does but then I don’t really follow him closely. And if memory serves, wasn’t he forced out of the closet by Perez Hilton? Same with Lance Bass and that was years after both had established themselves as celebrities.

Adam’s sexuality IS an issue because he is proud of his sexuality and he’s never hidden anything, even when it could cost him everything.

The pictures go along with the article about how straight women find Adam attractive and that he’s become their fantasy. Something that the entertainment industry has fought for years…the idea that a man could be openly gay and still be a sex symbol to women… which is why so many are still in the closet.

I like that Adam points out that even though women fantasize about Brad Pitt, he’s not sleeping with them. it’s fantasy and if women find him attractive and he’s part of their fantasy then he’s doing his job because that’s what he’s supposed to be doing as an entertainer, feeding the fantasy because regardless of whether he’s straight or gay it wouldn’t be happening with a fan anyway.

NPH was never in the closet. Perez “outing” him was ignorant, just because Perez is a douchebag who thinks he has the right to do that shit. But he did not out him, as NPH responded by saying, “yeah, I’ve been an out and proud gay man for years.” And he was not closeted. Everyone already knew, especially on the Broadway scene, et al.

i’ve been thinking about this for waaayy longer than I should but here’s what I got: I think they’re BOTH being exploited, the women for her body & Adam for his sexuality.
Adam Lambert is out and completely gay but most of the articles still hype the fact that women enjoy him and he may/or may not kiss women. Which is fine but how about respecting his preference and asking about his gay male fan base or the kinds of men he finds attractive.
Additionally, having a naked women with him further emphasizes his “straight” tendencies & i guess makes him more palatable for straight men.
How would people react to this photo if it was a naked male model instead?

    • TopIdol permalink
      October 18, 2009 6:55 pm

I don’t really believe its exploitation when you’re putting it out there, which both Lambert and the model have done willingly. Lambert is only an “oddity” as far as Idol is concerned…at least that’s how I see it. But he was the one who figured out it might be the place for him to be noticed, because he didn’t fit the norm. (But he was by no means a struggling actor/singer before the show…but that’s another conversation) Although I am a big believer just not making the “gay factor” any sort of factor. The writer didn’t do a terrible job of making it less of an issue, in all honesty, but it is going to be talked about.

The model is a model. If you’re going to model, you have to be willing to get nude. I don’t think the photos are tasteless or provocative whatsoever. Black & white always ups the artistic feel. Ha. But nudity like this is pretty commonplace in a lot of fashion magazines. Just check out W. I still think Details was trying to get people talking by putting him in there with a woman — because he is gay. If they had posed him with a few nude men, I don’t think it would have been as big a deal. Of course, as Blacklisted said, they don’t want to alienate their straight audience (which the magazine is more targeted at anyway).

Blacklisted also mentioned something about a half-naked Eric Bana. How did I miss half-naked Eric Bana?

Missing half naked Eric Bana pictures can only be considered a tragedy.

Just b/c I stopped buying Details after it underwent it’s gay purge 10 years ago, doesn’t mean I don’t check out the male pictorials while perusing entertainment rags at B&N. I’m sure Bradley Cooper’s photoshoot provided wanking material for all the gay bois and straight girls shallow enough to buy Details for da’ pictures.

there is some info about her in one of the earlier pages…maybe around pages 100-104 or so…I can’t remember. She does a lot of naked modeling, I think she’s European.

Doesn’t “Details” still have a cater to a (soft) gay market? I remember it changing in the late 90’s early 2000’s from being decidely more homo-erotic when it began, and then it underwent a kind of shift in direction with the pictorials, (more “Maxium”-esque –at least visually) in an attempt to capture the tragically-hip portion of the young, straight male market.

The funniest thing about this is the majority of the Glambert’s reaction is anger! You’d think they’d be happy that he is finally with a woman (isn’t that what they wanted?) They are seriously jealous. What did they think they’d be with him if he liked girls. Get real people!
Ughhh, and Adam obviously is gay and posing with a nude woman doesn’t mean he isn’t being true to himself. Adam is experimental! People just need to get over it!

I think it hits too close to home, the imagery. It looks too real. They don’t want to think about him being with a woman that isn’t them. The interesting thing theorized by the Kinsey Scale is that no one is a 1 or a 6. So Lambert being say, a 4.8, may just infuriate them more. (I think someone above said Lambert was probably a 6.)

Although I did read one woman’s belief the photoshoot was made to represent the model’s fantasy, not Lambert’s. And while they do serve to illustrate Lambert’s sex symbol status among women…his batshit crazy fans aren’t models.

Yeah I heard that the article was about women’s fantasies about gay men in which case the pictures would make sense. I need to go buy it. That will be an awkward purchase 🙂 Haha I love how they’d rather him be with a man than a woman that isn’t them…lol

The idea that the pictures represent a woman’s fantasy about a gay man is a load of crock. A straight girl fantasy involving a gay man would have the camera’s gaze on a naked gay man not a naked woman spread out for the pleasure of the straight male readership of Details. Watch Brando in Streetcar, the camera focuses on a sweaty, wife beater wearing Brando. He was the objectified side of beef for women and men’s pleasure. Honestly, I really wish these ladies took film courses to understand what is really meant when we talk about the object of the gaze. In the context of Details, the woman is the piece of meat. Her fantasies aren’t being represented.

Lauren, Details is a men’s magazine. It’s par for course for them to put naked or half naked women as ‘accessories’ in their pictures. It’s commonplace to see women laying down, or on a bed, or wearing just their underwear or giving a flash of fake boobs. I actually prefer their spreads featuring scantily clad male actors b/c it’s a throwback to when Details was more ‘out there’ in terms of acknowledging their gay male readers.

They aren’t really keen nowadays to acknowledge the gays who read Details. They will sometimes throw gay guys a bone by photographing a half naked Eric Bana or another acknowledged heterosexual male.

The funniest part of this is that when they do have a gay male entertainer, they become intimidated by his sexuality so they ‘heterosexualize’ him. That’s one big reason they put a naked woman there, to deflect.

In terms of sexual desire Adam is a 6. He doesn’t sexually desire women and has repeatedly stated that he needs to be liquored up to kiss a woman.

In terms of behavior, if he wants to count kissing, I’d say he’s a 5 or 5.5 on the scale. He’s drunkenly kissed a couple of women. Nothing that 95% of girls in high school haven’t done.

BTW, I attended those Newark concerts and none of the women who went to the after parties would be classified as ‘gorgeous’.

I haven’t read the article, but I pretty much had more than my share of introspective, I-don’t-give-a-fuck-what-they-think-because-this-is-art-Lambert. It rings false to me. Spot on observation D.B. Cooper.

Is he talking about drugs again? How edgy, how cool. I know a woman who desperately wanted to be “cool” all her life and now she’s a 40 something recovering heroin addict with three kids who’ve had to put up with her crap all their short lives. She’s just one of many out there. Really how many people haven’t smoked “weed”? God only knows what some of it was treated with…

“There’s a part of me that’s a business person and part of me that’s an artist, and the artist wants to push buttons and break boundaries…but the spokesperson goes, “Well that doesn’t really sell albums.”

Who is the spokeperson? Simon Fuller? How many other idols can get away with this shit without it blowing up in their faces? So Adam has carte blanche because he’s gay? Or is it because he’s an Artiste? Either way, I find it all, as I find him, trying way too hard.

Adam is merely pushing the American Idol Franchies envelope–nothing more. So those who see him as “ground-breaking” get the fuck over it.

What of the more conservative homosexuals who hold traditional values with one “minor” exception? How many of them are running around dressing like Cher or Bette Midler? They want to live “normal” lives: home, hearth and family. Maybe to some who are reading this, assimilation, mainstream, et al are dirty words. But isn’t that what the gay commnity is striving for at this time? What’s more traditional than marriage?

Gay, Straight, everyone has “kinks” of one kind or another, but why reinforce the stereotype of gay as deviant in the eyes of those not as “enlightened” as we purport to be. Adam Lambert is doing no service for the gay community. I understand it’s not his agenda. It’s about the ART.

On another note, I could go on and on about the treatment of women in this whole sham of a photo shoot. Is Adam or 3, 4, or 5 on the Kinsey scale? Glamberts are hoping 3; I’d say 6. I wonder if he threw up a little in his mouth? I will say he does look more into “it” than he did in the Pap shot of him kissing Drake. Awkward and tight-lipped.

I can’t speak for the gay commnity or nude female models. It’s their lives, not my call to make. The world continues to spin, we go on. Does it really matter if I think, at this moment, Adam is becoming a FAME WHORE? Nah. If it’s about the ART, make it about the ART, and less about him. Or perhaps he sees himself as “THE ART”.

Just me being oh so thoughtful and introspective, but do-I-really-give-a-rat’s-ass-kimberly.

Adam is and has always been unfiltered and ~provocative~. He knows he’s not to everyone’s taste but he’s the epitome of entertainment and talent for me.

I love his sense of humour and blunt honesty. It’s refreshing.

“I have no problem telling people, “‘You know what? I’m not your babysitter and I’m not your church’, ” he says. “They go ‘Jesus loves you, too.’ One time I just blurted out ‘I’M JEWISH, OKAY? I don’T need another crucifix! That’s not an appropriate gift for me!'” He laughs. “I know people are coming from a good place, but it can be offensive. Like, ‘Thank you, I’m not Christian! I don’t read that book.'”

“But it started to get a little weird because she was, like, moaning…” LOL.

‘He’s just a very sexual guy, and he’s not threatening to women.’

–“The surprise is that he’s also a gifted songwriter” —

“There’s a part of me that’s a business person and part of me that’s an artist, and the artist wants to push buttons and break boundaries…but the spokesperson goes, “Well that doesn’t really sell albums.”

“It takes him a little longer because he’s totally on girl time,” — “I like to get real pretty”

‘She begins to tremble and weep’

“Lambert is wearing an outfit that looks like Johnny Rotten’s closet had an orgy with Prince’s dry-cleaning.”

    “Get into it, bitches!”

“It’s all fantasy–that’s what entertainment is. I’m here to entertain you, and if my sexuality is apparent and you respond to it, then great, I’m doing my job. IT AIN’T HAPPENING ANYWAY!”

“I think it’s beautiful. That’s the way it should be. It shouldn’t matter what a person’s sexual preference is– itdoesn’t change their appeal”.

Looks like he’s starting to morph into Elvis, middle aged Elvis. Not a good look for Madam.

Thank God he has talent to fall back on.

Not nearly the same caliber of talent that is Elvis. He’s not worthy to touch the King’s sweaty jumpsuit or peanut butter and fried banana sandwich. Elvis is an original, Madam is a cabaret singer/karaokist

Actually there’s video of him doing both while visiting Graceland this past summer.

That better be glare on the first pic. Dnw Adam/Mermaid.

But besides that, I love everything that this magazine spread chooses to be.

Wait, I lied. I also do not like the block tooth the girl has in the third pic, as well as the fact that Adam seems to have only one tooth.

“Details, perhaps, a men’s magazine which always seems to be straddling the middle of the Kinsey Scale”

Most readers of Details prefer straddling other men.

I think in Rolling Stone he said that he doesn’t like what coke represents, something about synthetic ego and bullshit (wow, I remembered that…:S). I remember thinking he had a hard experience with it somehow? I don’t know…but I don’t think he ever said he hadn’t done it.

And wow, the photoshopping in the second pic is a lot more than usual, even for him. He looks like a dinosaur. No matter how much that the photographers and publicists might wish he does, he doesn’t have that jawline.

    • October 17, 2009 11:05 pm

I agree. He doesn’t even look like himself in that photo.

    Oh, ick.

He should have been more specific re: kissing women: “I like kissing women sometimes. Women WHO ARE pretty.”

‘Racy’ like the usual bland Details photoshoot.

Honestly, I could have come up with that after glancing at Maxim or taking a cursory look at the old foggy Esquire.

Only morons use Squee in a serious manner.
