Adam Lambert: For Your Entertainment single debut

October 30, 2009

So um…why wasn’t THIS used as Adam Lambert’s album cover?

adam-lambert-for-your-entertainment-single-cover

Now THAT is what I expected from Adam Lambert. And while I’m still not digging his name in illuminated Times New Roman, I am loving the neon sign-ish sans serif used for the song title. Much better. Is it too late to drop that other shit in favor of this design?

As for the song…lemme take a listen.

Ok. I totally like it. It’s completely cheesy and it doesn’t even sound like him most of the time, maybe that’s why I liked it? He’s not getting all Lambert-y with the high notes. I hate the title, but by golly, I likes it. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but its pleasant-enough electropop. I would get sick of it if I heard it incessantly, but its not bad. I like it better than any Katy Perry song, but it definitely sounds like a Perry-Gaga-Pink retread.

But hey, I like it.  I’m like fraking Mikey with the Life Cereal. I’m sure I just spoke blashpemy in Glamberttardlandia by saying it did not change the world, but whatevia. What do you expect from a hater and a homophobe?

Adam Lambert’s For Your Entertainment is something new a different. The song is a good dance tune and the words are very controversial. Just look at all the comments on this site. I’d say mission accomplished Mr. Lambert. I have enjoyed reading all the analysis no matter what bias you are expressing. The point I would like to make is the song is catchy and will sell millions of copies. (not opinion just fact) All the really big artists of our time did not make a name for themselves by playing it safe. Mr. Lambert has the backing of some of the biggest and most powerful names in our industry. On personal level I just want to have his music around for the next 50 years, so I can enjoy it. He will continue to surprise us all.

Yes, I do, very well. I don’t get that kind of behavior at all. As far as I can tell, Kris’s fans, calling myself one, having a soft spot for the man, seem pretty grounded. I like that he’s working it like a new artist and I like his music. I think this bodes well for a long term career.

If Adam didn’t want to be a ROCK STAR, why did he sing Bowie, Zeppelin and Muse on the tour? Wasn’t his set and his songs supposed to be reflective of the kind of artist he wants to be?

If he wanted electro pop, why didn’t he sing Britney, Gaga, or Black Eyed Peas?

Somehow, I do not think this is the kind of song that Muse or Led Zeppelin would release. Bowie maybe but not too familiar with his catalog.

Because the Tour caters towards Idol watchers.

Now he’s in the real world, and his success depends on getting new fans outside of Idol. He won’t cater to Idol watchers again.

I’ve been following the AI fandom only for the last few months and that definitely does not make me an expert but I will still attempt to translate what Glamberts are saying when they go all over the interwebs declaring “OMG, best song evah”. They don’t actually mean that if they were in their cars listening to rhythmic or top 40 radio (not that they listen to it but for the arguments sake let’s assume they were) playing this song they would instantaneously start getting hot flashes, immediately head to the nearest computer to find out more about the singer and buy every single thing he sings. What they mean is they think it will sell well. Probably better than Kris Allen. And that would make their world a better place (I have no idea why). I don’t know if the experts would agree.

I think the song is like computer generated. (Time for Miracles was like that too. ) It is a girl song. (TFM was a girl song too.) But unlike TFM this has an annoying beat. The cover is kind of funny, it is almost like a girl cover too but definitely better than the album cover. I personally think they’re pushing this Lord Gaga thing a bit too far. But what do I know? I wouldn’t be caught dead listening to this kind pop crap. The song is in the general area of rhythmic pop. And the cover is trying to be edgy. So, maybe that is good. It is actually better than I expected. But this is mass hysteria so maybe I’m buying into the mass hysteria too. Remember TFM getting the Oscar and Lambert performing it during the Oscar ceremony? Yep. Mass hysteria passes.

“It is a girl song”? Lol ok. That kind of gender segregation of what songs should be for “girls” and what songs should be for “boys” is what some of us are trying to change. It’s why there are so few men in the pop scene in America. It’s not like that in Europe or in Asia, but here we have very defined gender roles of what are “girl songs” and what are “boy songs.”

Who are you, why are you trying to change that and how exactly are you going about it?

Both songs are “girl songs” in the sense that they would fit female vocal qualities better. Or are “you” and “your movement” trying to change natural physical attributes of sexes too? Or OMG am I a sexist and homophobic hater? Hmmm.

By “we” I mean people who would like some more diversity in the American pop scene. I never mentioned a “movement,” and I don’t know what “natural physical attributes” of the sexes you think I want to change.

I also don’t know what you mean by it fitting female vocal qualities better, but if that’s what you think then that’s fine. But I disagree, and I also think that the ~style of the song which some people think is exclusively of a girl “type,” doesn’t necessarily have to be, and really isn’t except in America.

My comment was not a personal attack on you or opinion. I wish I could say the same of your reply to me.

“What they mean is they think it will sell well. Probably better than Kris Allen. And that would make their world a better place (I have no idea why).”

That’s one of the saddest yet most accurate comments I’ve read all day. Their world honestly would be a better place if Adam outsells not just HBD, but everyone else from AI Season Eight, and I have no idea why either. Can’t these tards just enjoy Adam’s music without worrying about how much it sells, especially in relation to someone else’s songs? If looked at my iPod’s 25 most played song list, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea where any song peaked on any Billboard chart, how many copies/downloads it sold, who that artist ‘beat’ at the time, how long it charted, etc. All I know is that I like those songs enough to play them repeatedly.

But see, if he outsells Kris, then it proves Adam should have won after all! Thereby Kris will totally have to admit he won because of homophobia, Arkansas, and Martian interference blocking Adam’s rightful voters, and step down. Then Adam will be the American Idol!

        Until the next winner anyway.

Really though, I spent a brief period of time as a Clay fan (rehabilitated) and we did the same thing. Every time Clay outsold Ruben, it was a minor victory. Of course, in the end, it didn’t mean anything. Ruben STILL won the show. And both went on to have fairly successful, if not stellar, careers.

Do you ever look at the Kris thread on TWoP? There’s several Adamtards that post on it always making stuff up about why he’s going to fail. Their newest reasons are that since he didn’t go to the Michael Jackson premere and wasn’t seen on the red carpet, he won’t be famous. Also, because he sang a cover at that concert last weekend, it means he’s going to be dropped. They seem to not understand that every artist since the beginning of time has covered other people’s songs.
And the twat ‘sweet and sour’ updates constantly with itunes chart numbers. She claims she’s not really interested, but then spends lots of time researching how Kris’ music is doing.
I will never understand AI tards, but I do admit they fascinate me.

“And the twat ’sweet and sour’ updates constantly with itunes chart numbers.”

I know. That stupid cunt is always going against board rules with her regurgitating the same shit over and over again, and yet, her crazy ass hasn’t been banned. In fact, b/c of her Kris thread ALWAYS gets derailed and has to be put on hold for 24 hours. If they blocked her IP address most of the nonsense going on in those threads would stop.

The whole MJ premiere convo was RIDICULOUS.

sweet and sour’s cover ‘issue’ was the dumbest of all. I attended a Green Day concert in the summer and they performed over half a dozen covers (mostly choruses of old rock songs). Green Day have a large enough library for their 3 hour concerts but they always add some covers into the mix for fan enjoyment. Apparently, those old heiffers at TwoP have never attended a concert thus they have no idea what the fuck artists do during their performances (e.g. covers).

          • November 1, 2009 2:15 pm

As dumb as I think the tards are, I refuse to believe they are so dumb and ignorant that they don’t know singing covers is a common thing. And if they are old, then they were around in the 50s and 60s when it was common for there to be several versions of the same song on the radio. Hell, even the Beatles and Elvis topped the charts with some of their covers. The criticisms are so stupid, I think they are just trying to make stuff up and troll. Of course, as you say, they may very well have never listened to music at all. Would explain why they think Adam is original and thought Cook was last year.

The best troll is the one who has like six user names which are made up of three words like “AllAboutG” and “MyWayToday” who attempts to create a ‘conversation’ by replying to herself using a different user name (Yes I’m assuming it’s a female frau. That’s a safe assumption). She copies and pastes the same shit that she already posted a week or so prior, so it’s hilarious when people feed the troll and try to prove her wrong.

BTW, doing a cover as an established artist isn’t the same as doing a cover when you’re starting out and you’ve come off a show where all you did was covers. If you can’t see the difference between Green Day doing a cover and Kris Allen (or even Adam Lambert) then sorry for your life because there is a world of difference.

If Adam started off his promo for his album singing a cover song I’d be concerned. They need to move away from the perception that all they can do is cover other people’s music. Once their own music becomes a hit then yes, covers aren’t a big deal but Kris is out trying to promote his new material and the song that is getting the most attention is a Britney cover. How does that help sell his single or promote his album?

I read on TWOP and I disagree that Sweet & Sour is a twat. I find her/his posts to be amusing because she/he knows exactly how to get under the skin of the kristards. She/he gives the reality of kris’ situation and the Kristards get defensive, it’s why the thread keeps getting locked down. There is nothing wrong with providing the itunes numbers; it’s not her/his fault those numbers suck.

The single cover is perfect for the single but it’s too close to Rihanna’s album cover in style to be used for the actual album IMO. The cover they choose for Adam will stand out (good or bad still unknown).

Maybe calling her a twat is a bit harsh, but why the hell would someone devote so much time to trying to get under the skin of the fans of a singer she supposedly couldn’t care less about? I know TWoP isn’t a fansite so you should be able to make negative comments about a performer without that person’s fans getting butthurt, but if I didn’t give a rat’s ass about someone, I sure as hell wouldn’t be posting multiple times daily on that person’s thread or trying to bait other posters.

She and some other Adam tards also post on AdamWithoutPity.com, a spinoff of TWoP, about how they pwned some TWoP Kristards by posting his less than stellar iTunes stats or gloating about how Adam’s concert reviews were so much better in comparison. They admit they post this info just to piss off HBD fans, and they’re practically giddy about it. Who gives a shit? Keep writing your fanfic on LiveJournal and licking magazine covers, and stop purposely trying to annoy people.

Also, I thought the Mod Nazis posted comments about how hourly iTunes updates are off-topic unless there’s a significant jump or decline. It’s boring and tedious to keep posting how a song dropped from #101 to #103, etc. BFD.

I suppose it’s actually a step up realistically. Before TFM, they would never have acknowledged the possibility that he could have poor sales.

Sweet and sour is a twat and an insane one at that. Have you read what she posts on Adam’s thread? She’s a crazy AItard. As for the cover issue, sorry, but I go to all sorts of concerts, and nearly everyone does covers. And I’m not talking about the criticism of Kris’ first single. Funny how she’s not posting about Kris’ great itunes pre-order sales numbers. Nor about how his single’s sales numbers went up. The most pathetic part is that she’s clueless as to what itunes numbers actually mean. Oh well, if only that dumb heiffer had the talent to be snarky. Alas, living in her mother’s basement, unemployed, no prospects and a 50-year old virgin has pushed her to displace her frustration and rage on innocents. I went on wikipedia because I wanted to verify if it really was Jon Hamm that I remembered as being on Providence. It was him. Skimming over the biographical facts, I was stunned. What a tragic childhood this guy had, parents divorcing, losing his mom at age ten, his dad at age twenty. Then the guy goes back to teach at his hometown school as a way to repay them for their support! Is this guy for real? I’d say here’s another well-adjusted man that really should have been angry at the world. I love that he went back and taught at his old school. It’s actually a very expensive private school, but its one of the coed/non-religious ones and has the best reputation as far as academics go. Still doesn’t change the fact he went back and taught there because he credited the faculty for being such a huge, positive influence on him.

If you read some interviews with him, he often talks about this, as well as how he didn’t quit waiting tables until well into (or after) Providence, I believe. The man paid his dues, and its always nice to see someone who worked hard for so long receive accolades. (He’s also good friends with Paul Rudd, who I interviewed once in 2003 and is probably one of the most awesome people I have ever met. What a naturally witty, intelligent and all-around down-to-earth guy.)

I also love that he’s proud to hail from St. Louis, unlike say, writer Jonathan Franzen. He has a reputation as an all-around nice guy, too, which makes him even hotter, doesn’t it? Hamm is also a huge Cardinals fan and still visits regularly, from what I understand. My friend’s ex (oh, he knows everybody…or so he claims) told her they met him at Blueberry Hill years ago. I turned her onto Mad Men recently. She had no idea about the show or who he was, now she’s a fan…although she prefers John Slattery’s Roger Sterling, which I think says it all 🙂

Do you watch 30 Rock? He was absolutely hilarious when he played Liz Lemon’s Dr. boyfriend last season.

Here…read this and fall in love with him even more:

I meant the Music video when talking Dead and Gone.

Everytime I’ve stated that Adam wasn’t Rock, I was met with resistance and denial. I’ve never encountered so many people who can’t think for themselves. It’s so pathetic knowing that these 60 and 70 year old women will never say they don’t like the song because they’ve been supporting Adam Lambert so vociferously since day one that they can’t back down now. They’ll look foolish. As if they don’t already!

I mean they might like this song the way my dad liked dancing to Rolling on the River at weddings or my mom’s favorite, We Are Family. I firmly believe if they heard this song on the radio and did not know Adam Lambert, they would turn it off. I go a stretch further and say they, in fact, wouldn’t be listening to Top 40. I have to agree the abbreviations are ridiculous. For myself, it’s just quicker, but personally I do prefer to write things out in full. Yikes! I’ll stop at once if it’s considered a fantard thing.

I noticed on For Your Entertainment (I was so tempted to type FYE lol) this in your face repetitive synth? sound which at first reminded me of an odd sounding accordion or concertina. I pictured some annoying kid moving the bellows in and out over and over again. (My dad played the accordion. lol) I personally think that synth sound or whatever it is, should have blended more, not be so overpowering. I liked the drums in the background, though.

I think that’s the problem with Adam Lambert compared to Justin Timberlake. JT (is that okay to call him that? ::grin::)is smooth like Fred Astaire, just really cool. He has no need to shout “look at me”, it’s all very subtle, very sexy, very classy. I love TI’s song Dead and Gone and it’s mainly because of Justin Timberlake. He just stands there on this dirt road and it’s powerful as all hell. I like subtle.

Tonight, I was listening to a top 40 station on the way home from my daughter’s basketball game. I said to my husband, if we were out dancing and drinking, I’d be enjoying this, but after awhile it all blends into he same song, the same sound. I like Watcha Say and my daughter is a big Shakira fan and she’s just discoverd Justin Beiber {sic}. She’s 12. Can you believe this 15 year old Canadian kid was discovered on Youtube? On the ride home, I was trying to imagine if Adam’s song would actually make it on Top 40. I honestly wasn’t sure.

I leave it on this note: The woman who wet her seat must have one juicy p*ssy, but then again if it’s a frau, she clearly just peed. Lord! This blog brings out my cruder side. I used to love to make the sweet boys blush. lol

I mean look at the peeps in pop right now. Lady Gaga, Pink, Britney Spears, with a various assortment of other artists like, iono, Kesha. And then Christina Aguilera who will maybe release an album next year in that genre. ALL WOMEN. We need some diversity here.

Plus, if you ask me, we always need another Britney Spears or Gaga. Dance music ftmfw.

SOLD OUT? Do you think people go on American idol to become obscure?

      • Steph permalink
        October 30, 2009 7:13 pm

you know this proves to be an interesting conundrum.

Because say the people who don’t rabidly follow Adam and don’t understand that he’s “electropop/dance” and are solely basing their experience with Adam Lambert on what they’ve seen as Idol…

…and they get this as his first single?

I think it has the ability to surprise a few. Not everyone understands that this has been Adam’s direction. Not everyone follows AI contestants after AI ends for the year. Many of the people I work with who LOVED Adam on the show, don’t have a clue he has a single even coming out.

And when I say surprise I’m not always sure this is in a positive light. Thinking of a lady I work with who I told today that Adam’s single was coming out because we shared the AI and Adam love last year and when we listened to it later in the day she was SURPRISED. Not in a good way. She said “This isn’t what I expected out of him”

How many people is he going to surprise in the not so good way?

        • Sherena permalink
          October 30, 2009 7:18 pm

Quite a few probably. I’m more concerned with how many young people in their twenties who’ve never watched Idol react to it, tbh. If he can conquer the Gaga/Britney/Pink demographic, he’ll have made it in the pop world. But that’s hard for men to do.

          • October 30, 2009 7:37 pm

I’m in that demo, and I think it’s a generic pop-crap song in line with Brit and Gaga and all those other autotuned to death songs, so it probably has a chance to do well on top 40 stations. Can’t speak for other 20 somethings though as I don’t know anyone who listens to this sort of music.

And I love dance music, and I’m warming up towards electro. I buy Lady Gaga, Pink, and Britney songs all the time. I really like this song…so I’m crossing my fingers so hard rn that others will too.

I was thinking about this on the way home…

You know what was an AMAZING electropop song by a male artist? Sexy Back. That song is infectious. I fell in love with it the very first time I heard it. It was the perfect blend of edge and pop.

I’m listening to For Your Entertainment (Sorry, folks, I refuse to abbreviate song titles in the fantard manner, heh heh) and finally heard the wailing/caterwauling, but the rest of it barely sounds like Lambert. It is also something I imagine to hear in the background of a Top Shop…which is awesome in its own right because I love London and I love Top Shop, but its not anything I haven’t heard before. It’s listenable and fun, but it’s not Sexy Back. That shit was just awesome. Still is.

            • October 30, 2009 7:51 pm

Sexy Back was a fun dance song. I do like some of these types of pop songs, but its very rare. I also agree with you TI, this should of been the cover (maybe there’s still time to change it.) I still can’t get over how cheesy the other one is.

Aside from being Autotune, I got one more issue about the song when I first listened to it….IS HE TRYING TO BE MJ2.0?

I don’t know if I’m the only one who hears it but there is a *twist* in the end of every line like the way Michael Jackson did in some of his songs……

Sexy Back is my number one song on my workout playlist for the gym, as well as just a song that I listen to pretty regularly. I love it. But its freaking Justin Timberlake. He’s sexy, he can DANCE(which Adam humping a mic stand does not count as dancing or erotic in my eyes) and he’s constantly reinventing himself. I love the man. I love Sexy Back and it’s a fantastic song that has a wonderful hook and is sexy done without being OTT.

I’m starting to try to picture Adam performing this song and I’m having a hard time picturing it. Adam is an entertainer yes, but he’s by no means at a Justin Timberlake status when it comes to performance.

      1. The words sound like he’s singing to them? Are they kidding? The lyrics can be read as referring to “entertainment” of a rather rough sexual nature. Is THAT what they think he’s singing to THEM? {{shakes head}} Isn’t it bad enough they think they can turn a gay guy straight, NOW they think that the gay guy is singing to THEM about rough sex?

      2. On a re-listen, I like it a little better than I did the first time I heard it. I do think it’s commercial. Why the HELL isn’t that the cover art?

I’d buy that! That looks more likely to sell if people are walking down the aisle. It would catch my eye in the positive sense, and lets face it, some people are totally judging by cover alone.

The song…don’t hate it, don’t love it. Wouldn’t change the channel, but wouldn’t put it on repeat in the near future either. I don’t normally listen to much pop music unless I’m in someone’s car. Isn’t really my style, the song that is.

I hear hints of Britney’s “Womanizer” (and as much as I’m not a fan of pop music I do follow Britney, don’t know why but I do so she’s my exception and I’m well aware this is sad and pathetic, but Brit’s my bitch so well…) as well as “Black and Gold”. And as you stated, Top Idol, it isn’t reinventing the wheel, but it isn’t BAD by any means.

I don’t really HEAR Adam in it, not meaning the style, I’m totally not surprised by that, but I don’t hear Adam until I hear his signature wailing, to me it doesn’t sound much like him at all.

I think it will grow on me. AFter all it has a little hint of Brit Brit in it, and that to means love.

“You just keep on pushing my love over the borderline…” — TI

That was when my Madonna love was strong. Now, not so much.

The winds of hype are blowin’ strong on MJ’s Blog. I don’t understand these OTT proclamations. Superstardom, blah, blah, blah. A line from one of Kris’s songs WAOMF is stuck in my head — “because you say so doesn’t make it so.” FYE is fun, but it’s not groundbreaking. I left my impression of the song on another thread.

I’m wondering if TPTB saw that TFM wasn’t taking off and decided to go with FYE. After many were comparing it to a power rock ballad, getting endorsed by Meatloaf and Brian May, procuring a lot of press for it, as well as, a music video, and seeing how Aerosmith had a #1 hit with IDWTMAT, they probably thought it would skyrocket. Ryan Seacrest called it a smash hit along with Brian Mansfield and I’m more than certain a slew of others.

I have a hard time switching gears like that. The spin changes every day. So TFM is no longer a viable single. I don’t think they’ll be pushing TFM anymore. It looks like the glamberts left that song to languish like they did his No Bondaries. That only sold 67,000 units last count.

I think this is beginning to bore me.

ha, somebody posted that “you must be nuts if you don’t love this song”. and many share the same sentiment. I find it amusing how these type of fans defend, blindly, anything Adam does. prior to the album, on MJ’s board, he was going to be a rock god AND a pop superstar. now that we see he is clearly going in the way of gaga, no more posts comparing him to rock stars of the 70s. (thank god). then TFM was going to be a huge, OSCAR winning ballad (yup, oscar talk)…now that this song has faded away, they are downplaying its importance in Adam’s career. Album cover, same thing. he was going to show us something we’ve never seen, cool and edgy ( I think the Details magazine gave them false hope)…and we got mall glamour shots with hello kitty graphics. Apparently, Adam was being silly on purpose. Riiiiiight, sucking on purpose is always an artist’s goal. FYE is not as catchy and exciting as some had hoped, and they know it. Im seeing a lot of people refering to the song with such descriptions as fun and upbeat, but not mind-blowing, OMG, this is the best song ever……even the OTT fans can sense this single is a bit of a letdown (for Adam’s standards). And now instead of Adam ruling the world, they’re arguing that its okay if he’s becomes big ONLY in Europe and Asia. LOL Really???? Its this what all the hype was about? A passing grade?

I think I love you right now. These are the same sentiments I get as well. It’s like they renege everything when it doesn’t go their way. I find it the most humorous and slightly delusional thing I’ve ever read. And its totally a popcorn eating event. I’m so amused by their delusional thinking that I don’t have the desire or energy to even say anything negative or be a voice of reason to only be deemed as the person who “doesn’t get it” and “not an Adam fan” or told to wait until I’m proved wrong.

Don’t get me wrong, I want success for Adam too, but I can also be realistic here.

What’s going to happen if this song turns out be a flop, it could happen! What is going to happen when the cover art turns people off? It could happen!

What are they going to do when TFM doesn’t win an oscar, and FYE isn’t the number one album?

I can get wanting the best, but my god, take some of this with a grain of salt. Some of these fans don’t understand they are only a small fraction of the music buying public….and while a lot of these tards are a bit “older” the biggest music buying people are STILL teenagers, weather or not the “older” fans have more disposable income or not, they aren’t what matters. Adam isn’t catering to their fanbase. Sorry. And again, fans of Adam are going to line up and buy the album, but success is going to be dependent on Adam winning over the average listener.

I hope Adam is successful, but with FYE where I hear so much of a retread I can’t jump up and down. It’s just something that already sounds like something else. Can it be a hit? Sure. Will I be surprised if it isn’t? Nope.

I’m surprised (in a good way) to hear this. The majority of hardcore Adam fans I’ve seen think that anything he does, or anything he’s associated with, is brilliant–even the album cover.

Adam looks fabulous in the cover art for the single. That was what I expected and hoped for the CD cover. Oh well.

The single could have been included in Britney’s Circus. It reminded me so much of Brit with it’s dancey, electro, pop feel. All of which means I LOVE IT!! That shit is so what I’m into….yeah, I’m a philistine.

This cover is way better than the album. However, still not “original”. looks very similar to something lady gaga or rhianna have out. ive always enjoyed adam, but i hope that the release of this album will calm down the tards. he is not bringing something new to the masses. all he is doing is taking elements that are working right now in the (female) pop world and putting his male vocals on it. nothing pre or post Idol suggests this guy wants to make “rock” music….I curse the day Kara labeled him a “rock god”. Hmmm. On the fence regarding this song. his voice is lost in the track, its quite bland. and bland is word i thought i would never use on adam.

I totally agree with the “Black and Gold” connection. They do sound similar but, I must say, I do like the song. They are gonna play it to death on the stations here in Cayman but, I can see myself dancing in the car. Good job Lambie!
Oh yes, and this single cover is sooooo much better than the Lisa Frank/Labyrinth throw-up for the album.

First off, that should have been his album cover!

2nd off, the single is not bad, but really it sounds like its a song that could have been on britney’s new album. Plus, it kind of drowns out his voice.

I’ve listened to it again and I’m still not blown away by it. I don’t hate it by any means, though, and I wouldn’t turn the radio if I heard it.

The single cover is so MUCH better than the album cover. What’s up with that decision?

Why why why was this not the album cover? It is perfect Adam — glam but edgy. He looks fabulous — that’s the way you rock the androgynous make-up.

As for the song itself, it’s generic, but has a good hook. Doesn’t utilize the nice part of his high range below the screech level, and it doesn’t even sound like him in the beginning. But if he was going for a catchy dance song that sounds like a lot of other dance songs, this does the job. It will probably sell like hotcakes. Hope the rest of his album is more interesting.

  36. October 30, 2009 2:49 pm

That glove…maybe he should name the album “I Am…Sacha Not Fierce”.

    • October 30, 2009 2:53 pm

Oh yeah, he totally wishes he was Kurt on “Glee”, having an excuse to do the “Single Ladies” dance.

Judging from Adam’s horrific dance moves in those Top 36 intro montages (which Megan and Kris PWNED at), I don’t think he’d come close to topping Kurt. And yes, I realize how I just phrased that.

Same beat and not too dissimilar to Britney Spears “Womanizer” in some ways. Forgettable pop. Yawn. Neither like nor dislike.

  39. October 30, 2009 2:17 pm

Oh the wailing at the end GAHHH! Why, why why? Does he ever sing a song without that horrendous screeching chiming in? On another note, I will give the song 2 out 10 for effort. Song sounds like shit.

Thanks. So not the same people that wrote “Womanizer” or “Black & Gold.” Oh, well. Originality is rarely rewarded in this world, so I guess it’s not suprising this sounds like a lot of other songs.

But Adam never did. You were deluded if you still expected rock after hearing him describe the album as electro-dance-pop-rock so many times, him working with so many pop producers, and expressing love for pop and poprock artists like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Britney, and Pink.

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I actually like the beginning (where it’s actually hard to recognize Adam’s voice) more than his high-pitched wailing at the end. I think I just prefer his lower register or falsetto to that full-throated banshee wailing. But it’s a really fun song, even if it sounds like a lot of other stuff out there.

After listening to it twice, though, I simultaneously have Britney Spears’s “Womanizer” and Billy Joel’s “Still Rock and Roll To Me” stuck in my head, and this is not a good thing! Who wrote this song anyway?

  43. October 30, 2009 1:43 pm

It’s cool, although it COMPLETELY echoes Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold”. Compare the two.

OMG, it does sound just like that song. I knew it sounded familiar. I got that free on iTunes a year ago. How did it do sales-wise? I could never really get into it, but I would think it would have done well. According to iTunes it was written by Sam Falson & Jesse Rogg. Is Sam Falson the same person as Sam Sparro?

      • October 30, 2009 2:11 pm

HOLY SHIT. I completely forgot that was his birth surname! Look him up on Wikipedia: “Sam Sparro (born Sam Falson).

Wow. Just…interesting. Even more interesting that he doesn’t use his stage name on his writing credits.

I still love Sam Sparro, and a lot of his music. But…I have mixed feelings about this Splenda-Sparro retread.

Single cover is great, I like it. Song is bouncy and catchy. I am not much into pop music but it is OK, not bad. It would be funny to see frauen dance to it 🙂 Definitely not rock, as promised, but it will get him younger fan base, finally.

I agree. The single cover is soooooooooooo much better than the album cover. I do not understand the decisionmaking there. That said, the single itself is good. It’s not really my type of music, but I think it’s the type of song that people will eat up. It is definitely not new or groundbreaking, but I never expected that. This is something that will get played all over the radio.

Nice write up. It seems for once we might just almost be in agreement. You still a hater and homophobe tho 🙂
