Crazy Adam Lambert Fans now accusing VH1 of discrimination

January 3, 2010

The video for Adam Lambert’s For Your Entertainment is no longer on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown. Hmmm…maybe because it hasn’t really gotten a big push since the AMAs and Lambert’s been performing Whataya Want From Me in major public appearances ever since? And since the song has not gotten a lot of video or radio airplay, it typically falls off the charts. Maybe its because some music networks only allow a song to be on the charts for a certain amount of time? Maybe other videos have been released which are more popular? I mean, this is just me speculating based on things I know and uh, common sense.

For all the INDUSTRY INSIDERS who post ad nauseum on Idol fantard message boards, you might think if a song dropped off a chart, they might understand why. Of course, industry insiders are usually only those who check TMZ daily or was once the 13th caller in a local radio promotion giving away Styx tickets.

They’re so savvy, they insist on spamming radio stations everywhere, as well as major networks. Hell, just see how they jump on any and every arbitrary online poll. And with the invention of Twitter, Glamberts can get their word out faster and more incessantly than before.

Since Lambert fans have been voting their buns off every week since the video’s release, they just don’t understand why it disappeared off this week’s countdown. Uh, oh, VH1. Get ready for the outrage!

WTFWTFWTF!! I watched the whole effin’ thing today just to find KA at #8 and Taylor Swift at #1!!! We are certainly a screwed up mainstream, blah, mamsy pamsy, uptight country. I am pissed!! I’m moving to Puerto Rico!!! I could scream!! I am screaming!! (BTW every time I went to the voting site, it would not let me vote!)

Actually, asshat, Puerto Rico is still the U.S.A. And yes, I am sure since you weren’t able to vote, it is a conspiracy against YOU! I can’t even dignify responding to the rest of your lunacy because you do an exemplary job of making yourself look like an ignorant fucknut. You’re just pissed because Kris Allen is still on the list. Admit it.

What she said! 😡 I’m so sick of Nickelback and their clones–standing there wearing a plaid flannel shirt and holding a guitar–and country cross-over artists. . . whatever happened to bands like Queen, Styx, Led Zeppelin??? I was shocked that Adam dropped totally out of the countdown. . . FYE, IMO is such a great song, with a great music video. . . grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

HA! I knew it! I just pulled Styx out of my ass in my intro for this post but you just PROVED my point. Oh, and your blatant digs at Kris Allen aren’t exactly subtle. Since I assume you HAVE been living under a rock for over 30 years, it may come as a shock to you but bands like Queen, Styx and Led Zeppelin have been gone for a long, long time. If you really gave a fuck about music, you would have lamented a lot of things in the decades since.

I’m sorry for stating my opinion. sad.gif I wasn’t trashing anybody. . . I love all types of music. . . it’s just that some of the current acts out there get a little bland and boring for me. . . I thought I was on an Adam forum. Should I just keep quiet about what I like and don’t like, and not support Adam as devotedly as I am?

Your passive-aggressiveness makes me roll my eyes.

Is VH1 not supporting him because of his Vevo affiliation? It has been rumoured that WWFM will premeire on Vevo. An artist like Adam could make a new network.

I didn’t know voting was open again. I didn’t expect it to be open for voting again until today. The Kris fans at MJ’s are really rubbing it in. Can someone explain why Kris’s chart numbers are going up, but not his sales? The opposite seems to be happening to Adam. FYE is a great song why is it being blackballed in this country?

Oh, this one is going to be fun. I’m going to hold off laughing at your belief an artist like Adam could make a new network, because that shit is just too hysterical for words. Few artists alone could make a new network succeed. Let’s move on shall we, so I can laugh at your other ridiculousness.

Can someone explain why Kris’s chart numbers are going up, but not his sales? The opposite seems to be happening to Adam. FYE is a great song why is it being blackballed in this country?

This is easy. But I have a fully-functional working brain. Kris’ chart numbers are going up because Live Like We’re Dying is receiving more airplay. It’s a catchy song. To my knowledge, even his most overzealous fans haven’t incessantly spammed radio stations or major networks. People like the song. If people continue to like his music, perhaps his album sales WILL increase, especially once a second single is released. Quite often, believe it or not, people won’t buy an album unless they hear more than one song from it. But this would probably also explain why Live Like We’re Dying has had consistently higher iTunes sales than Lambert’s releases. At this moment, Live Like We’re Dying is #21 on the iTunes singles charts. More people are downloading that song…because they like it. Maybe if they hear another they like, they will download that and consider purchasing the entire album.

Sure, Lambert has had better album sales, but I would love to see what percentage of those sales are just Glamberts buying MULTIPLE copies of the CD. Hell, I bet every friend/family member of a die-hard Glambert got a copy of For Your Entertainment this holiday season.

Oh, and just because For Your Entertainment fell off the charts, this does not mean Lambert is being BLACKBALLED because he likes to lick balls. But more on that in a moment, because you know where this is going, don’t you?

I’m calling out to all Adam fans go to VH1 and vote for his video also if u have twitter help to trend #PutAdamBackonVH1 We need to move Adam to the top. He worked hard in 2009 despite the setbacks. Let’s show him we have his back It can trend with our help. And believe me VH1 takes notice of even the small things. So please trend #PutAdamBackonVH1

Oh for chrissake, I’m going to shove a hashtag up all you moron’s asses. How is that working out for you, anyway? Not trending is it? Of course, The Moppet of Beelzebub is, as per usual. Now I did hear some Glamberts were trying to trend RIPJustinBieber. This made me giggle. I mean, that would actually be all sorts of awesome, however, that wouldn’t mean you could then get Lambert or #putadambackonVH1 to make the top trends, either, because it would just be overrun with more Bieber Beelzebub crap.

I think there is something else going on here with FYE not being on VH1 charts. Seems like there are a lot of people that voted a lot including myself. Now I’m not sure what to do to help get FYE back on the top 20 countdown. If someone can tell me what to do I’ll be glad to help out.

Conspiracy! Can you smell a homophobic conspiracy???

How do you get FYE back in the list for the countdown? Anybody know?

And today, Adam’s album is about to drop out of the top 25 on Amazon. Not a happy couple of days.

Wow. If this is the shit you worry about day in and day out, you should really take all that money you want to drop on multiple copies of For Your Entertainment and buy a real life.

Adam is so mutlifaceted- I think it confuses your average music lover. You’re right about FYE. It is a fascinating video with so many layers, ethereal lighting, intriguing setting!! The fact that it’s super sexy and suggestive, pushing the limits, and yet tongue in cheek makes it brilliant! And of course, THAT FACE!!! Adam’s eyes burn right through you! He does “own your soul”!!

Just because glitter reflects and sometimes refracts the light does not mean someone is multifacted. No offense to Lambert, but you’re an idiot. And as far as calling others average music lovers…you’re obsessed with a guy you saw on American Idol??

Angry Tweets!

Zenber1 @VH1 So what the heck happened to Adam Lambert‘s FYE video?? He was #16 and we all voted like crazy he got 73,300 hits and now he is gone??

How could it be??

Zenber1 @VH1 You took Adam Lambert‘s video off the voting list for the top 20??? That is not possible that when it got more traffic and comments???

Duh. CONSPIRACY ABOUNDS!

karapn2001 very questionable @vh1 @vh1top20 #putadambackonvh1 We want FYE Adam Lambert back

Keep going…

marylulu22 @VH1 Adam Lambert is the best singer of the decade and you don’t have him on???#PutAdamBackOnVH1

Best singer of the decade? Wait. If you didn’t say century or EVER, that does not mean you are a true fan!

marylulu22 @VH1 – where is Adam Lambert‘s FYE -are you going to be another ABC-not a good thing #PutAdamBackOnVH1

Oh yes. Because it ALL comes back to one thing–Adam Lambert is a gay man. That’s the reason he hasn’t been named the pop heir to Michael Jackson, or given a prime starring role in an Oscar-bait film for 2010. It’s the reason he hasn’t sold as many records as Susan Boyle. And of course, its the reason he is no longer on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown.

Obviously.

Haha, Saula’s okay as casual shipping goes, imo 🙂 It’s even rather cute. But it’s dead now that Paula’s gone. Unless Simon quits Idol, starts X Factor in the US, and gets Paula as a judge there. That could happen.

I’ve just never heard of it before. I find the idea of shipping the JUDGES instead of the contestants rather odd.
It really could. There have been rumors Simon was planning on quitting and bringing X-Factor. Why wouldn’t he want his old buddy with him?

It happens every year when the first singles drop.

Fans who can’t quite get the hang of the notion that the competition is OVER and that the future of their favorite Idol is no longer in their hands get a little…overzealous in support of their favorite.

RCA just posted this little missive on Adam Lambert’s official web site:

Adam Disqualified from Open House Party Voting

Just wanted to let you guys know that Adam was disqualified from this competition this week because the folks at Open House Party realized that some people were mass voting outside of their own cities. Please resist the temptation to do this for this competition, as well as when requesting Adam’s songs from radio stations, because it WILL harm Adam’s image with these businesses, not to mention RCA’s ability to promote him and “Whataya Want From Me.” Thanks.

Tsk tsk. There’s nothing more that radio station PDs hate than fans who call from outside their own cities. Request lines gauge the interest of a radio station’s regular listeners. Organized street team efforts from peeps who don’t listen to that particular radio station skew the results of call-in requests. In the end, this sort of aggressive street teaming hurts an Idol more than it helps.

I’m beginning to think he needs to tell them all that he totally hates them and to fuck off! Maybe he can start fresh with new fans while the crazy people are distracted by the start of S9!!!

But then he won’t get new fans. Unless he goes on Idol again…Good idea in theory though. I actually think he should have said something like “Leave the radio stations the f*ck alone you crazy people! I still love you though.”

No, he would get new fans because all the Glambert-haters would totally love it!!!!!!!!!!!
But, for his safety, he probably shouldn’t. Some Kathy Bates in “Misery” type would probably kidnap him and force him to write her love songs if he went that far.

Oh, ugh :/ I even made some posts on AO a few months ago warning against doing this kind of thing, too, and I know others have made posts about it, but I guess we can’t reach everyone and educate them on radio requesting etiquette without something bad happening first to scare them into compliance. And even now, I’m sure some people don’t keep up with the internet and will continue over-requesting in the future–but hopefully less people will.

Ha ha, they’re trying to get Adam to do damage control – from his twitter just now:

” Happy New Year guys!! I love that you want to support my music and call in requests, but please be mindful of how often you do so…

Open House Party is a great supporter of my songs, but when there is an organized group of fans calling stations nonstop,

… It understandably upsets them. Stations can track over-use of requests and fraudulent requests and I would hate to lose their support.

I really appreciate your passion and dedication to getting my music on the radio, but don’t drive the stations crazy! 🙂 thanks friends! ”

    THEN, a few minutes later:

“Woohoo!! Thanks to all who voted for the Z100 best new artist!! I’m honored 🙂 ”

BWAHAHAHA. It’s never going to end…can’t they see that these people will read into it what they want? You cannot appease them. Face it Adam, you’re fucked up the ass with no lube by a sparkle cow weilding an “exclusive hand made Glambert doll” purchased from eBay for only $199.99!!

      Here’s more:

“FYI. That doesn’t mean to stop requesting!! Just try not to do it 30 times in one day…. Just Cool it on the redial/resend kick. 🙂

Oh and so you all know, upon hearing this news, I laughed so hard. Y’all are nuts and I adore you for it. 🙂 ”

Just coming over to post the same story, Lauren. This is ridiculous. Don’t these perimenopausal idiots realize that they’re causing more harm than good to Adam’s career? No one is going to take the guy seriously if they think he’s going to bring the cray-cray along for the ride. They harrass iTunes about LLWD selling well. They clog VH1’s e-mail with demands that FYE be brought back to that countdown–never mind that RCA has basically declared FVE dead in the water and is promoting WWFM. And OHP was playing WWFM regularly, anyway! They must have really gone overboard with the requests/votes. What dumbwads.

They’re going to help run Adam’s career into the ground in the same vein as the Claymates and the Soul Patrol did for Aiken and Taylor Hicks. Such a shame.

Those nuts harrass anyone and everyone if any Idol other than Adam gets positive attention. Kris sells well on iTunes? He’s a boring little thing–let’s give Apple a piece of our mind. Allison looks cute on Fox’s NYE. She looked like a lost troll doll–let’s post on 100 boards that she’s chubby and needs a stylist. They can’t seem to understand that all of the other Idols have fans, too–and those people have some sense! At least none of them are harrassing TV networks and upsetting DJs. The GSCH will learn the hard way.

I noticed a shift in tone with MJ sometime several months ago. She started posting blogs sounding like an Adam fan, when before I always saw her as neuteral and perhaps a teeny bit of snark. I could be wrong, but I think she’s taken back control of her blog by calling out the back-stabbers over the weekend. The timing was probably coincindental, but I’m sure knowing the whole place was going to be off-line for 24 hours had to make the prospect of airing out all the dirty laundry in real time too good to pass up.

I can’t tell you how many times I almost bailed on her blog the last severeal months because it seemed like it was just out of control and over-run by Glambert Krazies, but I really try to give MJ the benefit of the doubt. She’s trying to make a living out of running that blog and it can’t be easy trying to placate the disparate constituencies. Imagine if she just pulled the plug on the whole thing. It would be catastrophic! 😉

Seriously, though, I never got why she was so hard on people until I stuck around there for a few months when I first started reading regularly last season. I mean compared to Jacob over on TWoP, she’s Mother Teresa, but she still has to walk a very fine line between allowing folks to snark on the Idols without attacking other posters or trash-talking another contestant just to get back at the “haters.”

If all the sane folks who bolted over the last six months would return, we could all have a big online Kumbaya Moment before S9 begins! 😉

I too have mostly stopped posting at MJ’s, though I love her site and still visit regularly for Idol news and some drama when I’m in the mood for it. Season Five was big-time crazy, and last year with the Davids had its moments. But I find so many of the posters there now to be completely insufferable. They don’t bother to learn their Idol history, know laughably little about the music industry, and make damn fools of themselves when they purport to understand and champion gay rights. I decided to take the lawnchair and popcorn approach this year – it’s much more fun watching them get cut-off at the knees by some of the regulars who actually know their shit. The spin over there now is dizzying.

MJ is a saint, and IMO she does a damn fine job maintaining balanced coverage. But I do wonder if she ever has regrets about not keeping a tighter leash on things. I’m sure every season is a learning experience. I’m just glad Season Nine is upon us.

The Glee threads. That’s where the sane ones are hiding. Some in SYTYCD.

By the time Season 9 gets under way, the crazies usually move on because their guy is no longer a major focus. What kills me is how many regulars got caught up in this mess. Some people who’d been around a while. Just sad.

I imagine MJ was hoping they would eventually just run out of gas, but whenever there’s a lull in the Adam news/accolades (or too much good news in the Kris camp), the paranoia sets in and they create a lot of activity.

I finally got a look at the mjs headlines thread and OH BOY! As the person who originally posted the quotes at VFTW, I see all these folks like saga, Q3, Abbysee, Squirrely, and so on trying to act like they didn’t know about it or didn’t participate in it or trying to minimize and justify the whole thing to mj and I just laughed. They are lying through their teeth. I saw their posts. And if they hadn’t freaked out and hidden the thread (a surefire sign of their guilt) everybody else would see it too. How convenient for them to hide the thread and then try to act like they didn’t do anything.

Yeah, I think it’s been better lately and less mean-spirited. I’m noticing more Kris fans coming back, too. Although there are a few new concerned and not-so-concerned trolls. Nothing like HWC, though, who would get applauded by other posters as hilarious and endearing every time he made a post about Kris’ hairline, stature, or some such other belittling comment.

        • January 4, 2010 2:55 pm

O by the way. When you think your ’supersekrit’ thread is secret? Sometimes it isn’t. I just want to know, in what universe, something like this is allowed to stand:

I think that MJ should see if she can get reciprocal links with David Duke’s organization. Fans of both would appreciate the convenience of linking to like-minded sites.

And peeps who frequent the website that lovely post came from bitch loudly about the ‘ugly and negative’ comments that are allowed to stand on my blog.

Can you say Hyp-0-Crit? I knew you could.

I would think, that at the very least, some peeps would appreciate the fact that I brought them together and then agree to disagree and just move on. But that’s not the way things go down in tard-land.

I participated and even administrated a fan forum for awhile, so I know all about the behavior’“the hive mentality, the paranoia, the ‘us vs them’ mentality’, the posters egging each other on, the behavior in a group that would never occur in a singular situation.

Some of you, a year or so from now, will wake up like in the Talking Heads song and ask yourself ‘How did I get here?’ I know I did. So, I have a tiny bit of sympathy for y’all.

    But, only a tiny bit.

The short version is that PF had one thread seemingly devoted to posting stuff people couldn’t say elsewhere. It devolved into an anti-MJ thread (also anti-Kris, Allison, any former Idol). MJ posters went on the thread and talked about how she was unfair and hated Adam. Ridiculous things like that since you know MJ likes Adams and doesn’t discriminate. Anyway, VFTW posted some choice comments by Tess, hwc, etc. I posted the thread here on a Kris thread b/c I know some people here read MJ and are fans.

I believe MJ saw the really negative comments comparing her to David Duke at vftw. She knew about the thread beforehand since she likely heard about it from one of the many people who belong to PF and MJ. MJ posted about it, probably because it was out at vftw and the comments were really ott.

No way is this the fault of PF in general. It’s the work of a few disgruntled MJ posters who wanted a members only thread at PF to bitch her out. As I said on the Kris thread, the normal Adam fans gave that thread a wide berth and sadly, the few times they tried to counter the bashings with objective info, the crazies on that thread ignored them.

I do think it’s funny that a few pretend idiots at MJ’s tried to deflect and make it seem that it was TI’s fault. Apparently b/c we were discussing THEIR comments from that PF thread. Also, the posters on that PF thread tried to excuse their behavior by getting angry at people who posted old comments like the one comparing MJ to David Duke. No one thought to look at their own backyard and blame the nutjobs for their hyperbole. Talk about wanting to shoot the messenger. Wait till you read the posters from that PF thread on MJ’s trying to backtrack about their own comments. The fools deleted their negative comments and put that PF thread away from prying eyes but it has been seen and we know who posted on it.

I called out Planet Fierce very specifically in one of my posts, but I never saw if MJ deleted it. She was so cool about not calling them out by name (not sure why exactly), but I just wasn’t going to abide it any longer.

Somebody in one of your threads commented on the shit that was going down on Planet Fierce, and folks started discussing it over here. Then somebody on MJs made the claim that the story ORIGINATED here. MJ made it clear (well, clear, if you’re not a moron) that you and your site weren’t the originator, but she wouldn’t spell it out, so after reading both threads at the same time to catch up, I posted that the conversation going on here was just paralleling the conversation at MJs. I stated in no uncertain terms that the originators were from Planet Fierce because somebody here included the link. I think it was in your latest Kris thread, but I’ll have to go back and look.

Trish, MJ had said that she was making changes to the blog… she had hoped to be back up pretty quickly but I saw on Twitter earlier that it could be more like 24 hours. I think the timing is a coincidence but it’s probably good timing nonetheless, lol. It was going to get crazy in there. I know I was all fired up and I’m usually pretty laid back 😉

Oh, there are some crazy Kris tards out there. Mostly, they complain about how Kris is intentionally being shafted by 19 because they never wanted him to win in the first place, and they are spending all their time and money promoting Adam. Any issues with Kris’s sales are all due to the complete lack of promotion 19 has done for him.

There’s also a whole contingent of Kris “fans” who are convinced that Kris’s marriage is on the rocks (which they usually attribute to the fact that Kris is actually gay and/or in love with Adam), and that the only reason Red Guitar was so often cited by reviewers as a standout track on the album (and by Kris as his favorite) is because Katy and TPTB were trying to cover up his crumbling marriage. They also tend to think Katy is a controlling bitch who didn’t support Kris’s pursuing music, and is now staying with him solely to further her own acting career. Never mind that Kris repeatedly said that Katy was the one who wouldn’t let him give up music, even when he wasn’t going anywhere with it, that she married him when he was essentially an unemployed college dropout, and that she worked full-time to support him while he pursued music.

      So, yes, they do exist.

But that shit the freaky “Kradam” (god, I hate that term) loonies pulled publishing excerpts from Katy’s private blog from college was beyond the pale. I don’t spend time at ONTD_AI but according to posts pulled over to VFTW, they gleefully published information about her struggles with depression in order to prove that her marriage to Kris was doomed and he would soon be free to go public with his relationship with Adam. I heard they even hired a psychologist to make a diagnosis based on her blog posts or something? That’s Maryann Sockpuppets stalker-type shit right there.

Something is being overlooked with the radio comments. This really has nothing to do with Adam/Kris comparisions, but I do think that Kris going on a cross-country tour smoozing every radio station he can along the way is a big part of the LLWD success story(besides the awesomeness of the song). Private concerts, DJing gigs, and interviews with radio stations all across the country have helped keep LLWD alive on the charts. Don’t forget-the next single will take off much faster due to this investment of hard work-you’ll see (radio stations have been charmed, LOL). Also not to be overlooked is that his video is an uncheesy, attractive, and honest representation of Kris and it works.

I love Adam, and I hope that he chooses to promote his next single WWFM by putting a little more elbow grease behind his work. I am routing for him, but I can’t understand for the life of me why he hasn’t gotten himself out there. And BTW he has no cyber street team, what’s up with that? This is a Q3 post from Planet Fierce regarding the People’s Choice Awards. Everyone knows the winners are told in advance so that they actually show up to that shit show. It’s the only way they can get them there. I’ve added a few comments of my own (see the italics)

No one knows if Adam will be at People’s Choice Awards BUT

          1. There is some big news coming. Could be something else but it is something big.

          2. He is in LA on Wednesday and has no other commitment.
          Uh. He lives there?

          3. He is not anywhere else on Wednesday.
Do you monitor him via a special ankle bracelet?

The PCAs announce presenters and celebs very late — some on the day of the show. So my bet is that:
If so, its because they have to confirm who will actually lower themselves and show up to the most pointless awards show in Hollywood.

Adam will be in the audience and on the red carpet.

Adam will have a camera on him when they announce the nominees.

Adam may persent, but odds are that he will not present.
Explain to me the difference between PERSENT and PRESENT

I do not think Adam will perform. But it would be great! So we can dream.

Finally, I bet Adam won the PCA — because Adam fans know how to vote.

To be fair, I don’t think the lack of radio promotion for FYE was Adam’s choice. Seems like 19E and RCA assumed his high profile in the media and the AMAs spot would be enough to launch the single on radio stations, which was stupid of them. He did next to no promo aside from Ryan Seacrest debuting it on his station– did he do a single radio interviews aside from that?

I did notice that Adam’s done private gigs (and not private as in performing for radio station big-wigs, like Kris and Allison’s Cumulus show) that probably pocketed him some good money (allegedly he received $100k for a private fan show in Louisiana, and I know he did another corporate show in Florida)– but those aren’t doing anything to further his career in the long-term. Kris really put in the man hours doing radio station promo, phone interviews with stations, a bunch of non-stop shows all over the country. Those shows were small and didn’t really expose him to new fans, however, it gave him good will with radio stations who then played his song (and kept playing it), thus giving him the payoff in terms of audience exposure and single sales.

Too bad that RCA/19E fucked it up for Adam, by the time they saw Kris’s radio promo paying off for him it was too late to really milk it for Adam in the same way. All they could do was get him in a few MCing spots at Jingle Balls and no performances. WWFM is more radio-friendly and I bet it’ll do well, but Adam’s first single could’ve been big, what with the AMAs spot and all the media attention he was getting, if they’d just put the hard work in and maybe picked a better fitting song.

IAWTC. However, I would add that Kris was exposed to some new fans during those shows he performed across the country. All of the Jingle Balls had other performers on the bill; such as: The Fray, Justin Beiber, etc. So he was performing to potential new fans not just the AI base. In any event, he worked his ass off promoting his single/album and I am glad that the single sales are steadily increasing. Hopefully, the album will start to take off too.

Oh, I’m sure the radio tour won him over some new fans, but my point really is that those events aren’t designed so much for that as they are to get radio stations to play his song. The Jingle Ball at MSG though was obviously a bigger deal than the rest of the radio promo stops in terms of the size of the audience. (I went to the one in Chicago and that wasn’t a bad-sized crowd either.)

    • yuppie permalink
      January 4, 2010 5:38 am

Yes, I absolutely agree that Kris doing the hard work at the radio stations has helped his single at radio. And that was a strategy decision that Jive made that was clearly the right one. RCA, on the other hand, seemed to think that Adam would just blow up on radio by virtue of his huge celebrity–Rolling Stone cover, Details cover, etc. I also assume they figured that the AMA performance would be a huge promotion for the single, but we all know how that turned out. By the time RCA realized that their strategy had blown up in their faces, they clearly worked like crazy to get him onto the bill at the various radio station Christmas concerts, but all the performance spots were filled, and he was left with having to announce other performers. It was actually kind of sad to see him interviewed backstage at Madison Square Garden when Kris was performing. He admitted he was jealous. I don’t know how the Glamberts dealt with that! Adam admitting to being jealous of Kris! How can that possibly be???????

Of course, the Glamberts all along were saying that Adam was “too big” to do things like the radio gigs Kris was doing. Forget the fact that big, established stars do these radio evetednts. No, Kris was having to lower himself to do them because he was a loser, but Adam was already an icon and too big for it. Then, when Adam got his “hosting” gigs at some of the concerts, they convinced themselves that it was actually a more “prestigious” thing than performing. Riiiiight. And, of course, when the hard work at radio really started to pay off for Kris, their response was to say that the only reason Kris’s song was doing so well was because Jive essentially paid off the radio stations by having Kris perform at all their concerts. Well, duh. That’s how it works. But, it doesn’t always work. Labels offer up their artists for interviews and concerts to stations in the hopes that the station will then play the song. But, if the station and its listeners don’t like the song, the station still won’t play it. Don’t forget it was Q3 and Tess and other PF posters a MJ’s who have claimed from the beginning that Adam doesn’t need radio at all in order to become the global superstar he is destined to be. Because, you know, lots of iconic artists like Pink Floyd don’t get radio play (Um, ok. Tell that to my local Classic Rock station). And Dark Side of the Moon has been on the Billboard 200 for ELEVENTYMILLION weeks!!! So there. Take that all you homophobic h8trs! Adam doesn’t need radio!!!!1!!!!

My other favorite crazy conspiracy that was not posted yet here was the one where Adam received more votes then Kris this week, and VH1 couldn’t let the runner up’s video outdo the winner’s.

He’s #26 on the Top40 (where Adam is #34) and he’s #12 on the HAC charts (where Adam is….not). He’s also #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. I didn’t even bother to look for Adam.

Kris’s got up to #80 yesterday. iTunes album sales are only a small percentage of overall sales, so I’m sure he’ll still have a big drop (the way all artists will this month), but it’s still nice to see. ITAWTC. He’s obviously now selling to non-Idol fans, or fans who saw him casually on the show. He’s way beyond his base now, and I agree at some point the positions on the BB200 will flip. I read Kris will starting touring in February, so those performances will drive sales as well. And the longer LLWD goes, the better it bodes for a second single being embraces quickly by radio.

              January 3, 2010 11:05 pm

The second single has way more potential to power his album sales than his tour, unless he’s opening for a bigger act. I have a feeling they’ll start him with smaller solo shows and maybe later attach him to a bigger name. So really, the album’s future success is dependent on if radio stations play the second single. People outside the AI bubble are buying LLWD, yes, but not many of them are going to buy an entire album when they only know one song.

I think album sales are going to end up being about how the second singles do, since people rarely buy albums off one song anymore. Still, I could see Kris jumping to the top for a few weeks in January because he has been out there longer. But I fully expect Adam to get a big old bump when Idol starts up again just because you know 19 will pimp him hard one of those audition episodes. Plus RCA is on a mission to push the hell out of his song. Kris will be profitable for Jive though IMO, I could see him selling well steadily over time. He just needs to be given the time to really catch on. He’s good, and he’s hot. That will make some money. 😀

There’s a rumour that Kris is performing in the Philippines with Jabbawockeez as their opening act on Feb 5th and 6th. Actually, I think it’s more of a fact now because it’s been announced on the venue’s website and the promoter’s page. The fact that he’s doing this concert gives me confidence that Jive is looking to promote Kris overseas and not just in the USA.

However small Kris’s Idol fan base may be compared to Adam’s, he has obviously reached people outside the bubble which is what all Idol contestants want to do in the first place. It’s nice to have the Idol fans to fall back on — especially the ones who are willing to buy 500+ copies of your CD just to keep you in the top 10 on iTunes *eyeroll* — but you can’t survive in this business on their support alone.

Hee! I’m interested to see how the sales pan out this month… I actually think Kris may have less of an overall percentage drop than Adam, because I think Adam got more of the Christmas shopping binge padding of sales. But Adam’ll probably beat him in terms of numbers.

ITA lostbrigade on Kris’ percentage drop. It shouldn’t be as steep as Adam’s, and for a few weeks Kris might even outsell him. I can’t wait to see how they wind up this time next year. If either one gets a strong second (and third) song going they could really take off. Should be fun to watch. For many reasons.

I’ll admit, I’ll be very very amused if Kris manages to outsell Adam in albums at all this month, if only for the amount of spin and panicking that would ensue, but realistically I think chances of it are on the narrow side. Adam’s sales would have to drop like 70% while Kris’s couldn’t drop more than 40% (uh, I’m not good with math, so those numbers could be wrong). It’s possible, but I’m not holding my breath– especially since now that the holiday radio freeze is over and stations are getting back to normal and will be adding again, WWFM will probably start gaining on the charts more and helping Adam out a bit with sales.

And haha, I do find it fascinating to follow the numbers, even though my comprehension of them is questionable!

Totally agree on the 2nd single being the key. I’m particularly interested as well in this week’s sales. Kris’ album has been doing so much better in iTunes this week, and while downloads aren’t a big percentage of the total number sold, it might be a good indicator that sales are stable, or at least not declining too sharply. We’ll see. Fingers crossed. No doubt, though, the popularity of LLWD is helping the album sales right now. First adds of the year are tomorrow – Mediabase rolling charts indicate Kris is picking up new stations with his airplay, so we’ll see how HAC pans out tomorrow and Top 40 on Tuesday.

I agree with your earlier comment that the 2nd single with do more to drive album sales than the tour. I just meant to say (but obsvly didn’t) that I don’t expect the 2nd single to come before the tour commences. I expect Kris to debut his new single on Idol at some point, in late February or March, after his tour has started, depending on how much steam LLWD continues to pick up. And yeah, I think he’ll do some solo stuff but then I’m sure Jive would want to hook him up with a big name in his genre to expand his audience further. I don’t really see how a solo tour will do that for him right now.

            • lostbrigade permalink
              January 4, 2010 1:36 am

Oh, yeah, I definitely agree. I’d rather see Kris open for a larger act, because I think it would do a lot more for his exposure/sales than a small venue solo tour, but from what little he’s talked about his tour, I feel like they’re at least starting him off on his own (it seems like if he was opening for someone, they would’ve let that be known). David Cook I think suffered a little from doing such an insular tour on his own. Hopefully they’ll find a good fit for Kris and have him opening for another act at some point.

And yes, LLWD still has life and hasn’t peaked yet, so my guess is a second single won’t be until March or so. I do hope they wait until the second single drops to have him show up on Idol.

I don’t think it will be reflected in this week’s numbers… this week is for the period that includes post Christmas sales and ITunes giftcard activity. If Kris is ever going to do it, it will be next week and/or the week after, I think. Adam would need to have a steeper than usual drop for a couple of weeks while Kris beat the average during the same timeframe.

Adam still in a pretty good place. His name recognition is very high after the AMA fallout, and he probably made a favorable impression with the younger crowd since he was portrayed as a crusader for gay rights. He just won’t be able to translate that into sales until his music actually reaches a larger audience. I think they both will be fine in the long run if they can get another song to chart.

Adam will suffer more from the returns. Those numbers eventually get removed from your total sales. A lot of these people don’t realize that. All those gifts they bought will be returned, and within a year, dropped from the total. Who knows where his numbers will end up.

Some of the more rational Adam fans (yes, they do exist) think RCA/19 may have asked VH1 to take FYE off the countdown so they can concentrate on promoting the WWFM video when it is released. Another theory is that there may be some rule about artists only allowed to have one video at a time on the countdown (which is a silly rule if true, but whatever). I expect WWFM to be on the VH1 countdown as soon as it is eligible for that show.

As for Kris, well LLWD is about to go GOLD (as of this past Wed. it had sold just under 400K). It is also #22 on the iTunes chart, in the Top 30 on the Pop radio chart, the Top 15 on the Hot AC radio chart & at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. And the music video has been on the VH1 countdown every week since it was released. People obviously like the song — it has outperformed any of Adam’s singles so far– but god forbid some of the crazier Glamberts actually understand actual factual evidence and admit this. It always have to be some sort of conspiracy.

I really like Adam’s music and he seems like a very nice, genuine guy. It is too bad he has some crazy fans who give his entire fanbase a bad name. They are not helping him with all these ridiculous rants. In fact, crap like this often causes a backlash against the artist — I’ve read multiple stories about radio PDs who won’t play music from various ex-Idols because of the OTT crazy behavior of the fans. Calling VH1 homophobic or threatening them is NOT helpful to Adam.

Oh those crazy Glamberts. They are by far the craziest Idol fanbase in years. Maybe forever.

Always accusing people of homephobia when things don’t go their way. Tsk, tsk. Imagaine what’s going to happen when Adam isn’t the success they expect. I’d start running for cover now.

The funniest comments accuse VH1 of being controlled by the religious right. So that’s who to blame for Real Chance of Love 2.

So silly. The VH1 countdown doesn’t depend solely on fan votes. It is closely tied to HAC radio play. They were extremely lucky it ever appeared in the countdown in the first place. Usually if you aren’t in Top 40 on HAC you don’t even get a chance to have your video in the vote.

  52. tinawina permalink
    January 3, 2010 5:57 pm

As we all learned last year with Cook, VH1 is considered an HAC station. The videos available for voting on the countdown are typically for songs that have an HAC adds date and/or are doing well on that format. Once a song is on a downward spiral at HAC, the video gets pulled.

FYE is not exactly burning up the HAC charts, and since the label seems to have pulled support for FYE and are fully behind WWFM (and WWFM is more HAC friendly to begin with) I fully expect the video for WWFM to turn up for voting in a few weeks.

Exactly. If I had to guess, I’d bet that it was RCA who pulled the video and not VH-1. Since the WWFM video has already been shot, I’d assume that they will make a major push for that video (since the song seems to be doing well) and that Adam will be on the show in a few weeks to promote it.

But that of course would make too much sense for their irrational Glambert brains

I used to be so dismissive of supergroups and side projects, but legitimate bands like the Raconteurs and TCV have changed my mind. I didn’t make it to the ACL Festival this year and was so depressed when I learned I had missed their debut. That was where I first saw Raconteurs live. Spent half a day working my way through massive crowds and 103-degree heat to nab a spot four deep in front of the stage they were playing. That 50-minute set was a religious experience.

I think I was at that same show a few feet from you. It was amazing, wasn’t it? I went in having no idea what to expect, and then…just wow. That totally changed my impression of Jack White too. They are one the best live bands out there. I actually had trip to NYC coming up, and when I found out they would be playing the Roseland Ballroom I changed my flight to a day later so I could catch them again. I’ve seen them three times now. It kills me that I didn’t get to see Dead Weather last year. Knowing Jack, I’m sure they’ll stick around too.

Did you see Plant and Krauss in 2008? They were hands down the best set I’ve ever seen at the festival. Honorable mentions to the Raconteurs and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Or how about Madonna,Jaylo,Janet Jackson, Lady GaGa, just to name a few. Adam fans Unite!!! Don’t let narrow-minded pinheads dictate who gets a chance to make it.
