Fun times at the 52nd Grammy Awards

February 1, 2010

The Grammy Awards were last night. They sucked, save for Pink’s aerial silk routine and Stephen Colbert’s hee-hee dig at Adam Lambert. Come on! It was funny. Hey, Stephen Colbert knows who he is. That’s a good sign, right? Perhaps it was simply another part of Colbert’s ongoing imitation of the man he hate-mocks, Bill O’Reilly? Oh, wait…no, sorry. The Glamberts have still thrown themselves into a tizzy.

All this for a guy who may be the long-lost bastard son of Colonel Sanders. Perhaps its those 11 secret herbs & spices which make him so damn irresistible to the (post)-menopausal set.

Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood just really needed to eat a damned sandwich. Her arm is the size of my thumb. She should also never speak.

I guess Justin Guarini was covering it for the TV Guide channel? (But I’m thinking they sort of just let anyone in. Alexis Grace was there. Or at least posed with one of the signs in front.)

How this woman can even smile amazes me after all she’s been through. Jennifer Hudson looked (and sounded) great.

This obnoxious bitch was only there in a pitiful attempt to show the world how RELEVANT she is…

…and to get into this guy’s pants. She’s been chasing him for over a year now, even though QUATTO warned her it would never happen.

For more photos of the 52nd Grammy Awards, check out MJ’s stash. Now with funny “concerned speculation” on why Kris Allen — who is probably on a flight to Southeast Asia right now — was not in attendance…and why this is MUY MAL for his career.

Whether or not Kris is “into the whole gala thing” or not he is wasting really valuable opportunities to network at functions like this. The day is going to come when someone is waffling over considering him for one thing or another and some previous personal contact would have made all the difference. That’s what all these functions are for- one Clive party is still just one party. The Grammy’s are network exposure both as appearing on a network and working a network. And never mind Katy’s aspirations- she needs the exposure as well.

I understand that there are successful celebrities that eschew the schmoozing thing, but Kris is not there yet and needs to learn how to get himself out there. He’s too passive. I don’t expect him to be a social butterfly and change his nature but I would expect him to at least try and make an effort. These opportunities are few and far between- it’s a shame to let them get away like this.

And someone wasted time writing those 2 paragraphs because they care so much?

Will be adding a few more photos if I get a chance. What were your favorite Grammy moments? I’m a bit shocked Gaga was so royally screwed when it came time to hand out those awards (although I think everyone won 10 of something in the awards presented before the telecast) and seriously, enough with Taylor Swift and the AW SHUCKS I REALLY WON speeches. The hate once reserved only for Miley Cyrus will now be directed towards you. Sorry, sweetheart. It’s just how things work.

Totally OT…but I just found this @ IDF:

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=627941&st=220

Some pics of Kris and Katy sleeping on a bus, and (possibly) in a music classroom…both from high school. (they look 16/17).

I’d always avoided looking at that thread b/c it seemed a tad stalkery…but I succumbed. (Now I’m tard-pamming a link. lol.)

The heavy makeup just can’t look good in person. I mean some of those photos are hideous. He isn’t a bad looking guy, but the makeup makes him look like a circus clown at times. He’s got pretty eyes as well … I don’t get the attraction. The glambulge picture from the NYE’s Gig, reminded me of a bad Benny Hill sketch. It just comes off more as a joke to me than sexy.

I do not understand the Glamberts who love his makeup. I don’t understand it at all. All guys wear makeup on TV, but most keep it minimal to maintain a natural look. Adam’s eyebrows contained enough pencil to complete a 5,ooo word essay for English Comp. 101. There is nothing natural about his makeup. He makes Dolly Parton look all scrubbed face, by comparison. I have never understood the thinking that this amount of makeup on anyone is sexy or hawt.

Oh, and I am starting to worry about Carrie. I like thin. I was thrilled when Carrie shed the extra 10 pounds she carried on Idol. But, seriously, she is starting to scare me.

Last night Adam Lambert looked absolutely beautiful. His hair and make-up looked great. I loved his jacket and how he carried himself—very assured and dignified. He was an excellent fashion correspondent for ET; completely understanding the intricacies of dress design and drawing attention to their features. The celebrities that he interviewed seemed comfortable and genuinely engaged. He scored well in this endeavor. 🙂

    The Stephen Colbert remark.
I was with the audience and didn’t think is was particularly funny, however, I didn’t think it was inaccurate. Adam did show a lack of restraint at the AMAs. Pointing it out wasn’t really that terrible. I suspect he will be ribbed about it for some time to come.

So Q3 is back and posted a tl;dr tome about why Adam’s launch strategy is so unusually successful. In the middle comes this gem:

“The international launch and promo trip seems to be sensible. Adam is more likely to be big outside of the US first. For example, he is selling better in Canada than in the US. It is exactly how Lady Gaga was launched.”

Yes, she just played “but he’s big in Japan” card. I can smell the fear.

Well, Japan is actually a big market. It’s like third biggest market in the world after the U.S. and the U.K. The “but he’s big in Japan” card is actually a good one.

      Canada, on the other hand…

Thats disgusting! LOL. The UK tend to love sexy people too – Sony have emailed direct to UK fan groups and asking for Adam fan clubs to organise theirselves to welcome Adam here in April. There’s talk of meet n greets (*squeeeeees*).The fans are currently organising transport, stopovers and lifts to London – no actual dates yet, which makes things a bit tough to plan ahead. Until I know dates I am not sure yet whether I can attend anything – just giving fair warning to go easy on me should I appear on the vids with my fellow Lambrits.

Is your friend part of Lordi? Because that would be beyond awesome. Scary, but awesome.

The thing with Scandinavian rock stars is that the countries are very small, so you can cover the whole place and still be pretty small peanuts. Japan is different because it’s got 127 million people to sell to, compared to 5 mil in Finland or 25 mil in all of Scandinavia put together. Being Finland’s favorite rock star is like saying, oh, he’s huge in Minnesota. Which is nice. I like Finland. I like Minnesota. But I doubt that an American performer who wants to be a global superstar is going to be putting all his eggs in Finland’s basket.

ET practically dedicated the entire Grammy show coverage to him. In the first four minutes they featured him heavily and played ‘Strut.’ Throughout the broadcast they featured his interviews then he had his own segment where he presented his top five Best Dressed and a special “Glambert” fashion award for GaGa. Then a second segment in which he proclaimed Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood worse dressed. I liked Carrie’s dress. He should have slammed Miley. Miranda Lambert’s dress was awful. I was in complete agreement on the best dressed, though maybe not in the same order. 🙂 The fact that his current hit song was written by the woman who came in first place on his list is merely a coincidence. 🙂

I already posted this comment on MJs. But the DJs were disingenious, especially the female DJ. She did a lot more than call him “tired”.The guy DJ didn’t say much and was pretty nice to Kris.

The female DJ said something like, “you’re lying on your bed and naked now while talking to us”. Kris laughed and said something like he has pants on. After they hang up, she was talking on about him being sleepy, how he’s wasting interview opportunities like this to promote his song, and what a shame that he has a song out but he doesn’t work hard to promote the song in other aspects like this. And oh, she also said something like, “I thought he’d be nicer?” (?!?)

Hours later the DJs tweeted that Kris fans were “relentless”. But all they have were a couple of tweets and one nasty one. Maybe they just got all the hate from emails and not on Twitter.

Either way, it’s all nice and hugs etc, but the I’d like to point out that the female DJ wasn’t entirely honest.

Would this be the interview where the guy told Kris not to let Adam make out with him? Because when I heard about the drama over that one, I searched the guy’s @replies – and most of them were coming from Glamberts who were accusing him of calling Adam a “gay predator” and Kradam shippers upset that he had spent so much time talking about Katy to Kris. I know that he did disable comments on the blog entry with the link to it and was deleting comments but I’m almost positive that it was mostly Glamberts doing the spamming. I looked at his tweets later, too, and he seemed to come out of it thinking he’d been spammed by Adam’s fans, not Kris fans.

Unless you’re talking about something totally different, then I wanna know too! I’m not surprised if Kristards have been being a bit OTT lately; for some reason the fanwars seemed to have picked back up again. You’d think S9 starting would have actually HELPED that situation but apparently not.

It was a different interview (don’t ask me to look for it, I’m a Kristard/Krisbert therefore lazy). There was nothing new in the interview, but at the end the DJs made snide comments about Kris being lazy and unmotivated to promote himself or some such shit. It was rude of the DJs, but not worth reacting to, I think.

But I do recall hearing that interview you mentioned as well. Glamberts are getting so predictable with their knee-jerk reactions, I can’t even be bothered to roll my eyes anymore. But the Kradam shippers got upset because Kris was asked more about his lawfully wedded wife whom he has been with for years instead of his fellow Idol alum that he has no romantic attachments to (sorry Lauren!)? Really??

I desperately want those 3+ hours of my life back, I really do. My hatred of the BEP’s was cemented last night. I took a trip up to Tombstone on Saturday and only 3 stations came in along the 4-hours-each-way drive – and the station was giving away BEP tickets. I heard every single they’ve ever released AT LEAST four times. I want to stab them now. And the fact that they sound terrible live just makes me dislike them more, although it’s not like that’s uncommon these days. Say what you want about American Idol, one thing’s for sure: every one of the people who make it far on that show can at least sing well live.

And as for Kris not going – I’m not surprised. You only have to watch him do that interview at Clive’s party to know how much he doesn’t like the “celebrity” aspect of things all that much. It took that lady like 4 tries to get Kris on camera and even then he was quick to shove George Lopez at her instead. Honestly, I see the point of “Kris needs to promote himself a little bit more” but when it comes from passive-aggressive Glamberts who only care because it gives them another way to say “Adam is better than Kris because he promotes himself” then I really couldn’t care less what they say.

Kris just answered my questions about the grammys in that interview.
Appears Geena, the interviewer, didn’t realize the cost.
I wonder if Adam has someone watching his pocketbook for him. He seems to spend with abandon. He did mention the birthday party cost him some bucks. What keeps playing over and over in my mind is Blake
Lewis saying that he had to pay $250,000 for his music video.
Glamberts might think Adam has carte blanche with 19/RCA, but
I can bet that’s not the case.

All you have to do is look at the WWFM video in comparison to the FYE video. FYE was so over the top with all those dancers and club extras. Talk about a lot of money. I’m guessing Adam has already gone through quite a bit of his original budget and RCA found a way to reduce costs for WWFM. It seems that way.

        • TopIdol permalink
          February 1, 2010 8:01 pm

Actually, I’ve wondered about that. I’m not sure what the union laws are as far as dancers or extras for music videos go. But I don’t think it was all that expensive. Sure, snake and location rental, but the dancers/extras provided their own wardrobe. And weren’t many of them friends of Lambert’s? The director has a solid resume, with the standout definitely being Poker Face which definitely expensive…and also funded by bwin, an online gambling company HQ-ed in Austria.

I’ve also wondered about the magazine photo shoots, covers, interviews. Is it one hand washes the other kind of thing for the IDOLS or do they walk away with some poket money?

I’m sure A-list celebrities are paid quite well. But what about those just starting out where nabbing a coveted magazine cover would be a major coup? Most would pay big bucks for that kind of promotion, I would think. I’m curious how that all works.

As far as the Krisberts are concerned, I’m kinda happy that his fans actually stood up for Kris. Let the DJs know Kris does have fans out there. I saw a few of the tweets and the ones I read happened to be from young guys and not frauen. A demographic I’m sure they wouldn’t want to lose.

          • erinnthered permalink
            February 2, 2010 4:32 am

No, it had to be an AFTRA/ SAG shoot. They had to get paid. Plus, the production value was very high. Just looking at those trucks in the parking lot, that was an expensive video. They did cut back for WWFM in a big way. That was one of those cheap, but we’ll make it look expensive videos.

Adam really is burning holes in his pockets, and RCA can’t be paying for all of it. I wonder if he even got paid by ET. The more I learn about how different it is when you’re being a “spokesperson” or basically being yourself on camera, the more I cringe at that kind of thing. For instance, did you know all those people on the VH1 “remember the ___” specials don’t get paid? At all. There’s a good possibility Adam either didn’t get paid, or got AFTRA or SAG minimum. That’s a nice chunk for the average Joe, but the way he’s spending…and keep in mind, he has an agent and a manager now. They get a piece of everything.

Yes, the magazines can cost money to get into, but I’d imagine he’s still being asked to do photo shoots. At least, I’m sure his manager knows how to get them, anyway. He’s not getting paid unless its a fashion shoot without an article attached. You’d be surprised what they’ll call an “article” too. It’s all free promotion. He doesn’t have to pay, but at the same time, he’s not getting paid.

It’s not about the current fiance.

Early in Carrie’s career she was ‘dating’ Chace Crawford. His shows publicity department worked overtime to gain attention for the cast and ‘dating’ Carrie earned him some. There was a lot of tabloid fodder around it…and then they broke up. She looks much happier now so I assume her fiance is the real deal.

I read that the Boston Globe called Adam — Glamberace. Glamberts took it as a diss to Lambert; I took as the truth. I’ve always thought of the hosts/commentators on TV magazine/tabloid shows one step up from paparazzi. ET — a classier version of TMZ. These people are interchangable, though some do grab a bit of fame — Nancy O’Dell, Mary Hart, Billy Bush … I’m not seeing it as a major gig for Adam, in fact, quite the opposite.

Was it Will.i.am from the BEP that gave Adam the side-eye when Adam grabbed his arm? He didn’t look pleased at all.

Another thing, who said Adam has an invite to the show? He was on the job with ET, an employee, not a guest, if he was getting paid. I’d say comparable to Justin G. with TV GUIDE or Kimberly Caldwell. It always strikes me that Adam sees himself as being more famous than he is in reality.

Kris is working on his career in music; Adam is working on grabbing as much camera time as he can get, no matter the quality or content.

I too find the new format even more confusing than the old way. It’s the nesting, really, that messes me up. With nested comments I never know what is new and what I’ve already read, and it’s not intuitive to me at all that I have to scroll down to the bottom and read up, but then scroll back down for each nested comment. I know TI is working on the new site, so I may stay away from the comments until then. It makes my brain ache.

Taylor Swift is a manufactored, talentless drone. People talk about Britney being manufactored, but at least Britney has some charisma. What the hell does Taylor Swift have? Her lyrics remind me of poetry I wrote in junior high school, she’s can play a few chords but she’s not a musician, and worse of all she can’t sing and I HAVE suffered through her shitty live performances.

The turd she delivered on national tv has nothing to do with tech malfunction, the girl just can NOT sing to save her life. Her vocals are created in the studio. They can do that for anyone, and her album is full of crappy lyrics, thus why did she win again?

I happen to despise Beyonce and I’m not a fan of Gaga. Either would have been better. And that’s saying something considering my dislike of that other manufactored heiffer, Beyonce.

She isn’t manufactured though. Or if she is, she manufactured herself. When she was a teenager shopping for a record label, the major ones wouldn’t take her because they wanted her to sing prewritten songs, and she wanted to sing her own. So she went to a small label and wrote her own songs and broke through with a self written ditty “Tim McGraw”… I wouldn’t call that manufactured.

Sads. I like Taylor Swift and I don’t know why. She definitely can’t sing live, but she’s cute and she seems sweet and unaffected, plus she writes to her niche — poppy, vaguely country sweet teen stuff, about being the dorky girl instead of the cheerleader, that appeals to all those dorky teens and pre-teens out there. She has a market and she hit the sweet spot run right down the middle of that market.

Even so, I’m sick to death of her and awards by now, so she can stop winning ’em any time. They can institute a rule that any time Taylor Swift wins anything, they can pick a name off a list of people like Neil Young and Leon Russell and Stevie Nicks and Kris Kristofferson (saw him on Austin City Limits and remembered how much I liked him) and they can get each get an award instead.

I’d still take Taylor Swift over Lady Gaga any time. Sorry.

But I recognize that her spectacle, her image, are part of what makes her fun, and that while her songs are super catchy and occasionally even deep, they’re really NOT lyrical masterpieces. They’re mainstream pop.

Had the jacket been two-toned (I’m thinking black/white), I think it would have come across better. What ruined the look was that tie. Looking like some mint julep-sipping dandy on his way to a Reconstructionist party.

His makeup is just all kinds of wrong. For heavens’ sake Adam, just get a chemical peel already! At least use more natural makeup. Doesn’t Chris Pine have bad acne scars? You wouldn’t know it because he clearly uses top-notch concealer.

I can see him being a huge failure in the NFL. Crap. I wonder if the Rams are gonna draft his ass.

He reminds me of Harrington that was Oregon’s wonderboy quarterback about 8 yrs ago, then got drafted by the Lions….hmmmm that worked out well…

Thing is, if Tebow swallows his pride and plays RB or TE, he’d probably be fine. He’s a good athlete, but it’s going to take too long for him to be anything of a decent NFL-style QB.

But the question is: If he CRIES after losing a game in the NFL, Will Fox or CBS still hold him close and stroke his pretty hair?

          Love you avitar!!!!

Love this line “Looking like some mint julep-sipping dandy on his way to a Reconstructionist party. ” Very funny!

I disagree with your critique about his makeup.

Bobby Moynihan as Snooki on SNL had better foundation than Lambert at the Grammys.

You need to adjust your monitor. Or maybe you have been gazing at Kris’ white, blood-drained face for so long that you forgot what skin tone looked like!

The boy is VERY pale. 🙂

Tickets Still Available for Adam Lambert’s Indio Concert

“About 200 more tickets were sold on Sunday, raising the total to 1,950, while the venue holds 3,500 people, said the casino’s Ciara Coyle.”

And someone wasted time writing those 2 paragraphs because they care so much?

Haha. Doesn’t his mini-tour start this week? He probably, indeed, is on a plane…or at least making final prep. If he HAD gone to the Grammys, the argument would have been the exact opposite!

“What was Kris doing there? Isn’t he going on his so-called tour? Shouldn’t he be reading literature about how not to get in the way? Doesn’t he need to get a haircut and pack, or is he gonna wear the same plaid shirt and holey jeans for two weeks, so he can look like a grease-monkey? He really SHOULD be paying more attention to his music instead of trying to hang around REAL stars.I’m concerned and disturbed!”

    🙂

This. He tweeted something about getting ready for Asia. The concern is touching. But shouldn’t they be worrying about Adam attending the event, getting no camera time and being made fun of. Just a thought. Although in my mind getting a mention in the grammy opening isn’t a bad thing.

I for one look forward to the day when we can have an award show that features no performance by the Black Eyed Peas. Yes Taylor is a sweet girl but enough with the mouth dropping open every time you win. I do have more hate for Miley Cyrus though. When is someone going to tell Taylor she needs vocal lessons. She is great at marketing herself but she really sounds horrible live.My favorite parts were Pink and KOL beating Gaga.

    I can’t sleep, and I can’t watch any more BSG, so…

Adam needs to put down the shiny clothes. Who said Wayne Newton 2.0? That was brilliant, and oh so true.

I bet you’re right about Kris being on a plane to SE Asia. Crazy people.

Clive’s party is supposed to be one the most important annual business and schmoozing events of the music biz calendar. Kris being there will always mean more than an awards show where people are just sitting there waiting to know when they can go get drunk and eat.

Can we please have a Sparkle Cow/ Colbert Nation rumble? It would be so funny!

I’m glad Matt made it after his sold out show in Michigan last night. How many seats sold? Was it about the size of the casino? Any idea how quickly it sold out? Just curious…

The Forest Hills Fine Arts Center is an auditorium owned and used by the Forest Hills Public School system in Grand Rapids, MI…I’ve never been in there (I grew up 30 min away). It’s probably your typical high school auditorium, between 500-1000 seats. I know they announced the show in July?, August?. I think Matt tweeted it sold out about a month ago. It wasn’t sold out when he did his shows in November. I wanted to go to the show, but forgot about it. :/ He’s a pretty big local celeb around here (West MI), but then again there aren’t that many celebs that live around here. He’ll sell out shows here for a few more years, but even the Idol show at the arena in GR wasn’t sold out. I wonder how he would do elsewhere.

Matt just got booked for another local performance. This place has about 2000 seats. I bet it sells out super fast, since this is his adopted hometown.

I don’t want a Colbert Nation/Sparkle Cow throw-down. Stephen Colbert loves that kind of rumble, and it gives lots of publicity to whoever it is he’s feuding with, like Rain (Korean pop star?), Miracle Whip, Barry Manilow, the Decembrists, etc. He brings them on, they have a rumble of some sort, and with Wayne Newton, part deux, it would be a sing-off, except they’d be required to do some impossibly high notes and then Stephen would throw out his wrist and have to bring in Kiri Te Kanawa or Alek Shrader (the guy in “The Audition” who had to do nine high Cs) to finish the fight. Lots of WN2.0 on screen. No no no no no.
