Adam Lambert: Now your great-grandmother’s favorite Idol

February 6, 2010

89-year-old Isabel is one of Adam Lambert’s biggest fans. Isabel is a Viking, originally hailing from Norway and emigrating to the Wisconsin as a young child. This kind of makes her like Rose Nylan in a way, perhaps? She is one of Adam Lambert’s biggest fans.

Here’s a sampling from the Q&A with Isabel from Sweet Sexy Sean Says.

You are a beautiful, opened minded woman. What is your advice to other people out there that have issues/problems with Adam?

[Isabel:] JUST LISTEN TO HIS VOICE!!…Especially the song he sang when he was in Brigadoon…
…it made me cry, my daughter too; it was soooo beautiful. He can bring so much beautiful music to the world if they’d only give him a chance. His sexuality doesn’t have anything to do with how talented he is, or what type of person he is. His personal life is his own; he doesn’t judge us, why should we judge him? He wants people to be happy, get along, and enjoy his music…just like I do!

Kudos to Isabel for being 89-years-young. I love me some old people. I really, really do. I could expound at length about how our elders deserve more resepct and that the US should really take a cue from cultures who revere those who are older. Of course, I really can’t deny that I didn’t giggle when I saw her talk about Adam Lambert doing Brigadoon, though.

And I gotta admit. I would love seeing this upcoming Glamily Reunion at the Fantasy Springs Casino and Resort. It did not take long for the casino’s marketing & events team to figure out just how they could further profit from Lambert’s upcoming concert. Just because I would laugh hysterically. But since some Glamberts are doing their part to send Isabel and her daughter to Palm Springs, I really hope its not another one of those Scambert Operations. I may be a total asshat, but I HATE HATE HATE it when I see tard scams.

As of this afternoon, Thursday 2/4/10; Mtn Woman from AO has two perfect tickets and seats to the Palm Springs Fantasy Concert of Adam Lambert. Gifted with love from Mtn Woman from AO she is giving these tickets to Isabel and Joy. That’s right Isabel… you are going to see “YOUR BOY ADAM!”

Isabel and her daughter Joy have the concert tickets, now we need to help them get to Palm Springs. PLEASE HELP DONATE BY GOING TO PAYPAL: and enter in the email of: and donate $1 or $100 anything you can give will help. We need to get two plane tickets, hotel and then for taxis and extras at the concert. LETS MAKE THIS THE BEST CONCERT OF A LIFE TIME FOR ISABEL!!!! Thank you to Mtn, Kel, Rod, pflagmom and everyone for the set up help with PayPal.

I found this posted over on VFTW

“@adamlambert FANS: FINAL DAYS TO DONATE FOR ISABELs DREAM TO SEE ADAM! We still need about $400 to help make the dream complete. This will help pay for meals, wheelchair and oxygen tank rentals. It will also help pay for any little extra’s such as taxi’s and help with tips.”

Now I’m positive that this is a scam. Any elderly person requiring a wheelchair and oxygen tank would already have those things and travel with them. At her age medicare would cover the cost.

The interview with ‘Isobel’ sounds awfully a lot like a L Ard interview. Very odd.

Why do I even go to Adam Official?!! So I guess, homophobia is the culprit…again! *facepalm*

RCAMod: “Do you think Adam would bother with something like this if it wasn’t serious?

I work some 20 artists here at RCA with fan bases as rabid as Adam’s (yes, believe it), and I’ve never had TWO occasions in which radio stations asked for our help to stop the harassment in the span of a year – never mind 2 months.”

truthiness: “Doesn’t this tell you something?

Other fan bases “just as rabid”? But they only complain about Adam’s?

OK. Like I said, how many dj’s MOCK those other artists? Calling them homophobic names and criticizing their personal appearances?

Whatever. Adam got blamed for Roger screwing up the Out interview too. RCA doesn’t know how to handle this artist.

THEY caused this last round of bad press today again, so it’s not the fans that are responsible. THEY chose to castrate Adam in favor of radio homophobes.

Done with this. It’s not that deep it’s only music and I don’t even listen to radio LOL. EVER. Keep pretending it’s not homophobia and using him as a joke. Time will tell who’s right and who’s wrong.”

Oh yeah. Homophobia is the reason for everything. Sparklecows couldn’t REALLY be pestering radio stations now could they? (they’ve certainly NEVER done that…or anything remotely like that in the past) Holy Shit. Do they honestly believe the stuff they say?

And to be “fair and balanced” (lol)… some Kristards are worrying that it’s “not fair” that Adam in Mexico got press coverage, while Kris’ mini tour gets nothing. (I hope at least, they aren’t spamming People Magazine or whatever) I’m sure neither event has been noticed by anyone outside the bubble.

The cows are truly deluded. As Lauren mentioned, Adam could tell them to fuck off and leave him alone and they still won’t get it.

Oh, and I’m playing my teeny tiny violin over Kris not getting US press for the Asia mini tour.

They don’t get it. It’s not even so much about their constant calling, but rather what they’re saying during the calls. If they were to just say–

I’d like to hear WWFM. It’s a great song and I’d love if you played it.

then no big deal. But they’re not doing that. They’re all–

Why won’t you play WWFM? Is it because Adam’s gay? You homophobe! I want to speak to your program director. I’m writing a complaint. I’m boycotting your station. THIS IS AN INJUSTICE. I HATE YOU!

Never mind that Adam gets more backlash from being on Idol than anything else. The fanatics just won’t listen to reason. It’s beyond them.

Blah. I haven’t been to Rickey’s in months. Ugh. Some MJ’s Glambert has already reasoned away the tweet by saying that it’s no big deal. Adam knows his fans are really passionate, and he would rather send them gentle reminders occasionally than to be dropped by the label for not having a fanbase! (What? WTF does one thing have to do with the other? If they act like normal humans, they think RCA will drop Adam? JFC)

Just another way to justify the idiocy. It won’t stop until he finally lets them know that truly does NOT find it cute or endearing. (Even then, some of them wouldn’t stop)

Maybe he’s slowly getting there!! Some people just can’t be mean all at once…it has to be done in increments! The only problem is that there’s less shock value with that approach, and the Glamberts may not get it. (if that was ever likely to happen anyway) I think for some of these nuts, it’s less about Adam and more about them. I don’t get why they can’t see that’s counter-productive.

Rickey is looking for hits. It gives him revenue. He’s good for shits and giggles around the cellcasts but when he makes a comment like that, he’s mainly doing it for a bit of controversy which gets the site hits from fans.

I so agree! I did suggest we all chip in to send Smartie to do a journalistic critique but weirdly enough there’s no takers. Short of being there myself this would make my life. Tho have sneaking suspicion that the critique would be a one word essay consisting of the word – “Fail!”. I would still pay money for that tho :).

Ok, being a bit more sensible, I would love it if TI could go with at least one of the Adam fans, Lauren/8sour/Sherena for a bit of balance. You may get discount TI if you say you are a journalist with this blog. Just an idea……

Why pictures of Adam on the wall and not one of her daughter? “get to meet him before her time …” This is her last wish? I’m not getting it. I do agree that the trip shouldn’t be funded by strangers. This should be a gift from her family for her 90th birthday. I don’t know their financial situation, but running up a little credit card debt for your 90 year old mom shouldn’t be that big a financial burden. Do what you want with your money, but in my opinion there’s a trillion other things that are a far better cause.

Wonder how old the daughter is. maybe 65? And the median age of Adam Lambert fans just keeps rising.

This is the problem for American Idol. The people who watch it on TV and get attached to the contestants are a hundred years old. But those people don’t know from iTunes or iPods or cd players. I can’t think that’s who they expected or wanted to co-opt as fans of New! Current! Pop! Stars!

I have an elderly relative who hasn’t bought an album since 1967, and she’s another one of these grannies smitten with Adam. Grandams? She feels about him how she felt about The Bridges of Madison County, another schlockfest. She loves him with an overwhelming love that is not in the least connected to who he is, just some weird fantasy thing he represents to her, because of what baggage she brought into the show. She loved Taylor Hicks, too. She said she saw his audition and saw the gray hair and knew she was going to love him before she heard a note. Which tells you something right there. She paid somebody to vote for Taylor for her, not being up on speed dial. She let Adam go unvoted for, though, which I thought was strange, considering she seemed to love him as much or more than Taylor.

I like your new tabby in a tiara avi.

I think it’s nice that he reaches so many people. I like that older generations, through their interest in him, are tuning into today’s music. I also respect that he embraces that.

Stop being an Gerontophobe and hater 🙂

But I don’t think they’re tuning in to today’s music. I think they’re collecting tchotchkes for this mythical unicorn they think they love, and they see the cds as more memorabilia, not really music. Except maybe that Princess Unicorn song about how her horn can pierce the sky. THAT song gets ’em where they live.

I’ll admit to being a Germophobe, but not a Gerontophobe. I have made arrangements and hosted a 90-year-old in traveling to an event (a basketball game, not a concert) and it was no picnic. She was a sweetheart, and she really wanted to be there, and we were scared to death we were going to kill her with all the stress of the four-hour trip from her house to the event and making her ride on a bus and stay in a hotel and be in and out of security in her wheelchair… She did okay, but she was quite exhausted before we even got to the game, and I think she made it to halftime and the ceremony she was there for, and then she got out of there.

In other news, the casino hotel has apparently supplied a room for Isabelle Paquette and her daughter and somebody got her tickets to the show. So now Adam needs to come through with plane fare and backstage passes and she’s all set.

You’re a Glamberphobe. I believe the plane fare is being provided through the donations. Anyway, don’t know she’s going to get those backstage passes.

OT, but who else got almost 3 ft of snow?????? This is so awesome. I won’t have school for like a week 🙂

Adam and his boy toy Tommy are sunny their pale, glittery skin on the warm beaches of Mexico right now. I doubt he’s even aware of grandmas plight.

jukejoint, I totally agree with you. For the old gals, the Idols are a weird fantasy for them. Very few of them are music fans. If they had heard them on the radio, instead of TV, they would have cared less about them. Some of them have this weird “mother/lover” combination going on. It honestly makes me want to vomit!

I saw Taylor Hicks at one of his concerts about three years ago. I felt rather sorry for him because I don’t think it ever occurred to him that he was going to get that type of an audience. Never in my life had I ever been in a gathering of mostly over-40, fat housewives and grandmas dancing, desparately trying to act cool. A couple of fat women in front of me were drunk and kept yelling, “we love you Taylor”. It was really rather comical. The concert itself wasn’t bad, but some of his music is a little out of date for my taste. It really is sad that he’s fallen off the face of the earth and is now doing a small part in Grease, but that’s what happens when you can’t attract any fans below the age of 40.

Oh boy. Such a mixed bag of feelings watching this.
Initially I wanted to be cynical, but then I felt bad about that, and thought aww, she’s sweet. But then she had to show pictures of Adam hanging on her wall? Help me out here Isabelle. I’m trying hard to be nice.

That Lady is my husband’s great aunt and doesn’t have a dishonest bone in her body or thought in her mind. I just found out about the whole thing yesterday when my husband’s mom told him. I was very surprised and can see why people might think it is a scam but it is not. She is living in an apartment for seniors with low income and her daughter has her own challenges bringing up three sons (she is 48 by the way because she is 9 months different in age from my husband. Aunties one son died of congestive heart failure in 2005 and her second son suffers from the same disease and does not have the ability to pay her way. She is legit and it hurts me to hear some of these comments. Maybe more people need to be like her.

There are lots of scams which take place in Idol fangroups, so you can understand why people are suspect.

I understand the sceptisism, I am that way also but some comments were what I would consider bordering on hateful. But I always try to see the good in people before the bad. I don’t either my husband’s great aunt nor people who want to be generous to her to get scammed either because I don’t know who or have ever heard of the person ‘sweetsexysean’.

I don’t know how paypal works, but I hope it is not a scam because my great-aunt(actually my husbands by blood but mine by association) would be devastated and she is one of the sweetest people.
