Kris Allen eats duck fetus

February 7, 2010

Its called balut, and its a traditional Filipino delicacy. What is it? Duck fetus. It’s a six-minute video of

The “narrator” (apparently Allen’s assistant Lizzie) is kind of annoying, but I’m hungover. Kudos to Kris Allen for being such a good sport. I hate assholes who travel and refuse to eat local cuisine, like when I was in Ston, Croatia and this stupid bitch in my group complained about the traditional seafood we were being served — such as black risotto — and asked for fried calamari. I was mortified. She also kept asking everyone we met whether or not they had any family in the war. I apologized AND face palmed at least five times a day.

I digress. Mainly b/c I’m hungover, so I’ll get back on track. Apparently people in the Philippines love watching Kris Allen eat stuff. Or be on shows with eat in the title.

Any Survivor fan would know Balut by now. As shown first in Survivor Palau (Go Tom, Jenn (RIP), Bobby Jon, and Steph!) and in Survivor China (Go Todd, Courtney, James, and Amanda!). Tom, Steph, Bobby Jon, and Ian ate Balut in the challenge and James and Denise (Cafeteria Lady) ate the Balu (well James did while Denise couldn’t do it. Anyway, Balut is yummy. Baby duckies are delicious. Tastes like chicken 🙂

Kris is a nice guy so I don’t understand why lots of his fans are full of negativity and hate. Everyone knows that VFTW is now a bunch of Kris tards. Seriously go check out that their Kris thread and they are collectively fantarding Kris. Anything that is positive about Adam is negative about Kris–so they have to spew negative crap toward Adam and his fans to support their Kris tardness. It’s so lame. VFTW was started by some guy who did it to vote for the worst and those they thought were fun. Now, because of Kris tardness , they have lost all credibility and now it’s a big joke.

I wouldn’t say a lot of Kris’s fans are full of negativity and hate. I mean of course some are…but not any more than any other fandom.

When was VFTW EVER credible? Now THAT site is negative and hateful.

Huh? Worsters are Kristards? So they’re showing their ‘tardiness’ by calling him Who, boring, Monkey Boi, mediocre, etc? When they photoshopped his face over Zach Braff’s from that scene in Garden State (shirt blends in with the wallpaper), that was… tard art? When he was their pick for the WORST, hence the name Vote for the Worst, was that worsters showing their appreciation for his Heartless and Ain’t No Sunshine performances?

I don’t get how they could be considered tards when they basically give Kris slight praise just to piss of the Glamberts. They know what pushes their buttons and gets their panties in a wad, so they give backhanded compliments to who they consider to be the lesser of two evils. There are a few people that say his album is somewhat decent compared to the horrible schlocky crap that other Idols have put out, but other than that, I have no idea how they can be considered tards. It’s obvious they dislike Adam, but that doesn’t automatically mean you like Kris.

In the few seasons I’ve watched of Idol, he is the only contestant I’ve liked more since watching the show. Usually I forget about them or they quickly bore me after the confetti stops falling. Kris Allen is a keeper. And after watching Shit-For-Brains compare Gang Bang Garcia to Adam Lambert for his acoustic take on Straight Up, and then watching the rest of the episode…it was rather amusing to see all the people and their guitars when wait, wasn’t it only a week or 2 ago Idol devoted an entire five-minute montage to all those Adam Lambert wannabes.

They don’t know about Toms Shoes or their One for One campaign (buy a pair of shoes, a second pair goes to a child who needs it) but accd to this person, giving shoes doesn’t help people in need. In fact, giving stuff as opposed to money doesn’t help. Plus, folks in Rwanda and Haiti already have shoes. I shit you not that this was their argument, lol.

There’s a big difference between an organized donation of shoes to a school, orphanage or village in a third-world country, and using a disaster as an excuse to clean out your garage. The Tom’s Shoes campaign has been going on for years and these are usually planned trips, with the volunteers knowing how many children they needs to bring shoes for and sizes/measurements. What the Red Cross and other charities try to stop is the “house-cleaning” style of giving. I volunteered at a shelter post-Katrinaa and you wouldn’t believe the amount of JUNK people would donate…junk that frankly ends up in landfills, where they should have gone in the first place.

Uugghh. This reminds me of something. A good friend of mine and her mother took some items to a church that was donating goods after Katrina happened. They arrived several minutes later than the designated time, and there was no one out front at the drop-off point. My friend’s mom went inside to find someone to help them unload, and she heard some women laughing and talking, so she walked towards where the noise was coming from at the end of a hall. She stoppped short of the door and listened for a second. There were 2 or 3 people inside, rummaging through the donations, cherry-picking goodies for their kids. “OOoh, look at this, this would fit Susie!” “This is way too cute to let go, I’m taking this one!” etc…. She turned around and left.

I wonder how much this kind of thing happens.

Eh, I think to qualify, you have to be a child, living in abject poverty, preferably in a 3rd world country. I don’t think the trade-off is worth it just for free shoes.

Buuuut, you can buy a pair and another pair will be donated to one of the above-mentioned “qualifying” children. So you get the warm and fuzzies, the kid gets to run and play without cuts and infections, and both you AND the kid get “oooooh, CUTE shoes!” [/Sweet Potato Queen’d]

Bit of ageism in my statement, but I do stand by it. I’m sure this is just a fun outlet for you Lauren. Kris Allen suggests going outside for awhile. ::smile::

I am curious, though, to see what guy is going to be the next Aiken, Hicks, Lambert or Cook. Interesting to see once he’s picked how far he’ll go with their backing. I got caught up in IDOL season 7 & 8 due to the musical talent. I mean David Cook definitely wasn’t a looker Top 24. The hair, the “school of rock” faces, the definite weight issue (in the beginning of the season — must have been a lot of beer drinking, eating and celebrating before the show began)didn’t stop me from liking his vocals and his song choices. Who hasn’t danced to Free’s Alright Now at a local bar with a T&T in hand on a summer night? Good Times! Season 8 I hated most of the song choices, but the acoustic twist Kris put on the songs won me over. TMYFML, FS, even SWHFTM were great. The song I think that was underated was Marvin Gaye’s WGO (I love, love that song) — Kris made that song his own.

So yeah, for me, it’s mostly about the music, but when the guys behind it are likeable and not bad looking, all the better. Certainly, I want my choice to do well, be successful; it’s human nature. But some of these women’s obsession border on deranged and it stopped being about music a long time ago. Of course, I’m preaching to the choir here. You all had this figured out years ago before I even knew about IDOL.

Well, my son tells me I never lost my inner child. We pretty much talk about everything, especially music. He’s super intelligent, so there are times, I just listen because it’s out there for me — wants to be a astrophysicists. Just a natural ability — 99 in AP Chemistry, 98 in AP Calculus, got a Physic’s award his Freshman year. That said it isn’t always easy for him to relate to kids his own age either. I’ve gotten him to appreciate David Cook’s music, as well as, Kris’s. He prefers more blues, indie rock, folk acoustic stuff. He plays all my vinyls, bob dylan, neil young, led zepplin, pink floyd, yes — makes me happy.

My kids have never been grounded. I was just in a bad mood today and taking away the laptop and tv lasted all of 5 minutes, it was better than beating them. I keed, I keed.

The cops came out to several parties I was at, but nobody ever got arrested. My husband was this><close to being arrested twice, though. Once was because his drunk friend peed in somebody's yard after a baseball game in Chicago. The other was because he has a common name. He got pulled over for speeding and they threatened to take him in and put him in jail because someone with the same name was wanted in that state (Wisconsin) for bank robbery. He was on a college trip (Scandinavian conference of some sort) and his professor got really mad and told the cops that she would personally vouch for him as NOT a bank robber. They let him go, but it was kinda dicey there for awhile. I guess the word of a Swedish professor is good enough in Wisconsin!

For the rest of you, basically, you are given two choices: drink and drive and go to jail (and possibly kill someone), or try to walk home and go to jail anyway for public drunk. Of course, our alma mater currently has THREE memorials for victims of DUI in the last few years, one of whom was a cop dragged to his death. Apparently we have a “Culture of Alcohol.” [/rant]

Shit For Brains just earned her nickname. She just told a guy with a guitar who reorganized Paula’s “Straight Up” that he had flipped it like ADAM did all the time last year. That to me is such an urban myth. Adam never changed up anything. He copied Dilana’s Ring of Fire and slowed down Tracks of My Tears. That’s it. Oh, wait. He did change up that Cher song Hollywood week and it was TERRIBLE. His big hits were Mad World, which was exactly like Gary Jules’ version, and Muse’s version of “Feeling Good.”

Meanwhile, Kris really did create new arrangements, like She Works Hard for the Money and Heartless, and it was awesome. It was also so much his signature that Shit For Brains whined about it when he didn’t and wanted to know whywhywhy he didn’t.

Adam may be a skilled vocalist, but I don’t think the Jonathan Tunicks of the world have anything to fear from him when it comes to orchestrations and arrangements.

Okay, rant over. But I am so sick to death of the Adam-pimping. Why are they still pimping him all these months later? He lost. He’s gone. Get over it, Shit For Brains.

I remember “Tracks of My Tears” wasn’t even “arranged” by Adam.

He said it was Michael Orland who did that, not him.

So basically Adam never ‘flipped’ around any song that he sang on the show.

      • jillian permalink
        February 9, 2010 11:39 pm

I think he said Michael Orland helped with the If I Can’t Have You arrangement, not Tracks of My Tears.

I do think overall that Kris’s creativity came in the way he rearranged the songs and Adam’s creativity came in the way he sang/interpreted and performed the song. They’re both creative people, musically.

I can understand Kara comparing someone being creative with a song to Adam, but it would have made as much or more sense to compare that guy to Kris, whereas there are probably other performers who it makes more sense to compare to Adam. But I’m sure that won’t be the last “Come again?” comparison to Adam or Kris or other contestants that we hear.

You think maybe Kara’s just a WEE-BIT pissed that Kris dropped “No Boundaries (to Kara’s shitty songwriting)” from his set list AND album?

              • February 10, 2010 7:12 pm

I did find that a bizarre name-drop – why else would she say it? That dude didn’t remind anyone of Adam, at all, I don’t think. Either that or she’s just confused. I guess that’s possible, but I lean more towards name drop. Heh. That was a WTF moment for sure!

I KNOW!!!!!b I DVR’ed and just finished watching…it was 100% Kris!!! The plaid, the guitar, the acoustic version of a pop song…I totally expected to hear “Kris” come out of her mouth…when she said “Adam” , I was like “seriously Kara????? STILL with the BS?” That WAS NOTHING AT ALL like ADAM. What the hell????

A LOT of girls with guitars this year….I gotta say I like your girl, Sour!!

Kara needs to GTFO now! I had made peace with the Lambert pimping, figured Kris would make out just fine in the long run. Earn his way like any new artist with talent and hard work. It wasn’t just Kara’s comment that pissed me off; it was that the TPTB didn’t edit it out. Did they intentionally do that to make Kris fans rage? Did Kara even know what she was saying? This season Kara has been a complete ass. Telling that Casey kid to take off his shirt, saying the guys had bikini girl last year. Well, Kara, Bikini Girl came in there half-naked of her own free will. The guy didn’t go in their expecting to have to strip. It was totally unprofessional and good thing the guy was of age. She was drooling after Casey’s performance tonight. I always gave her the benefit of the doubt, but something is definitely wrong with the woman. She tries too hard to be cool. And the woman can’t dance. I don’t know why that bothers me, but it does. ::grin::

The fans in the Philippines were not there to see Kris. They didn’t even know who he was.

A Pinoy friend of mine in Cebu went to see Jabbawockeez, the dance crew Kris is appearing with in the Philippines. She said most of the people she talked to were there to see Jabbawockeez and didn’t know who Kris was. Apparently several of the Jabbawockeez are Fillip-Am, and since this is their second tour of the Philippines, and they’ve had a lot of press, media attention and television appearances, they’ve developed a huge fan base there. That was smart of Jive to have Kris appear with such a popular group and hopefully it will help him get more international attention. Anyway, my friend said Kris was pretty good and she enjoyed him. Jabbawockeez killed it.

“I have a friend who lives there, she told me that the place where they had the concert used to be a Pizza Hut where really hot waiters danced so a lot of people went there thinking that they will eat pizza and watch hot waiters dance but were extremely disappointed when they had to listen Cris Allon sing instead. I think jive is smart to set the concert at this place but I hope there isn’t repercussion.”

I was at Kris’s Manila concert (recap here: http://eliza.freetxp.com/2010/02/kranila-the-kris-allen-manila-concert-recapreview/), so I think I can rightly put my two cents on this *concern*

While I do agree that lots of people went to see the Jabbawockeez, the loudest cheers were for Kris. Heck, the Jabbas had to hype up the crowd to receive cheers, while all Kris did was come out from behind the curtains and show his face and people cheered like crazy. In fact, when Kris left the stage after singing LLWD, the crowd was chanting “MORE! MORE! WE WANT MORE! WE WANT KRIS!”

Ah, yes, I am *concerned* that people don’t know who this Chris Ollon is to the point that they exhaust all their energy from screaming and flailing during his setlist. I am also *concerned* with the fact that people were wishing that the Boyce Avenue and Jabba performances would end so that they could catch this Chris Ollon person. I even got more *concerned* when I discovered that quite a number of people around me even flew all the way from various countries in Asia and America just to see him. I wish they didn’t waste that much money and donated it to Haiti or something instead.

      Much love,
      A *concerned* fan

Haven’t you heard? Curs Alloon should never, ever, ever go near an acting role. He is a terrible actor and it would be a crying shame if he stole an acting role that would be marvelous and fabulous and worthy of an Oscar (even if it’s a tv commercial) if only it were in the hands of La Lamberta.

And Tess is still raggin’ on supper clubs over there at mjs, cause you know a gig at a casino in Indio is wayyyyyy better than a gig at a casino in Las Vegas. That one gig is also eons better than a year-long tour of college venues and casinos and… I forget what else it’s better than. Probably singing the NA at the Superbowl, winning a boatload of Grammys and CMAs, getting your own holiday special, selling a gazillion records and getting guest spots on a popular TV show as well as a major motion picture. I’m sure the Indio thing is WAY better than all of that.

He seriously cracks me up. His faces and laugh are infectious. And on top of that he looks damn good in glasses. It sounded like a bunch of good friends out for the night, everyone relaxed and having a good time. Down-to-earth and real.

On a side note: Adam took his fans to task again. I guess a Canadian Radio Station said they were being pestered with “pushy” emails.

Here’s one glambert’s response to it:
    @Glambert_3799 said:
“I tend to agree! I don’t know if you saw my previous tweets but this is the last time I’m apologizing for this. If it happens again I’ll be asking Adam to really think about the station’s motivations in blaming us for not playing his music. Yes we’ve gone overboard in the past, and some ppl will continue to go overboard, but at this point so what? Like we’re the only one’s doing this? Like his record hasn’t gone Gold by now?

It’s already moving in the right direction. This isn’t OHP, its one station in Canada. The toughest part is being called out by Adam himself. OUCH!! I guess I just wanna be sure that we’re not being unreasonable before I tell Adam that this is unfair. Glamberts having gone overboard in the past muddies the waters. That’s why I’m holding back for now. See what I mean? :)”

I hope Kris is this well-received when he starts his US tour. He’s been busting his ass out there, and so far his voice is holding up, and the performances are getting better. (I’m sure the anti-AI snob media critics will have plenty of bad things to say though when that time comes)

I love Chris Torres with his great bass and smoooove dance moves, and I really hope Ryland Steen is coming back. We got six inches here last week…the last remnants of which melted away a couple of days ago. It’s now snowing again. I’m gonna say at present there are about 4 inches in the yard and it’s still going stong. The streets are clear, though. So weird, I live in the South as well, and generally we get MAYBE a total average accumulation through the whole winter of 4-6 inches. Right now, this is like the fourth snowfall this past month, I’d say a total of over a foot so far. It’s just odd for us. Maybe if it continues, people will stop freaking out. Last week there were all kinds of cars in ditches, etc…then you watch people driving, and I bet 50% have no clue what they’re doing. (*hint* if you think it’s OK to drive 60mph over an icy bridge, and slam on your brakes when you realize everyone else is doing 20, it’s probably best to stay home)

If you see a jacked up truck with a rebel flag in the window being driven by some dude in a wife-beater (in 30 degree weather), this is invariably the person who tries to show off to all the lay-days by going too fast, slamming on brakes, trying to do donuts etc… I was doing about 40mph on the highway, and was being tailgated by an idiot who’d finally had enough, and roared around me with the evil stare. Ice is a bitch. I live at the top of ginormous hill that ‘s like at a 30 degree angle, if there’s too much ice, I don’t even bother. The last time it snowed, it was strictly snow, the time before, there was some ice under the snow…but it was manageable. Our first snow this year started out with sleet/freezing rain which continued for quite a while…and it was a solid sheet of nastiness. (this was over Xmas Holidays) The people next to us had family over and one of the guys (age 20 or so) decided it would be fun to go down the hill on a little kid’s tractor-looking thingy (about the size of a small tricycle) It’s about 150 yds or so to the bottom of the hill, so this thing was like the rocket from hell. I was standing outside thinking “What a dumbass….this is going to end badly.” After he attained escape velocity and ended up face down against a curb, the neighbors had to go get him.

                      Rednecks and winter don’t mix.

I was with my friends behind the VIP section at first but because I met a former colleague who now works with the organiser, he managed to bump me and another friend up to the VIP area. Met a few more former colleagues there from my days in broadcasting. I can’t believe I actually spent time right before the show networking!

No luck with meet and greets, although we bumped into his bandmates before the show and talked to them. I was struggling to keep my inner Kris tard in check then, but a bit of it came out. I totally handed Andrew, his guitarist a CD of what I considered the best music to come out of this country. I figured, if they leave with something tangible, they’d appreciate good music. Seriously, I can go on and on about this musician and his artistry. Anyway, Andrew took it, with thanks and they went off to join Kris elsewhere.

Think about how many emails they have probably received since announcing the concert. I’m sure it was a request from some tard, and hell, if the casino can make extra money off of them, they’re totally gonna roll with it.

I’ve been out of touch the last few days, but there’s this *very* intersting discussion going on over on the Kris/Adam numbers thread at DCO: Apparently some official moderator on the AO site refuses to confirm the casino gig because he hasn’t had it officially confirmed to him.

Say what???? Is this gig on or not?

That’s fine gang, no point arguing Fantasy Springs further, I think the points are clear. RCA simply has no financial or business involvement in Adam’s touring activities, so until 19 tells us it’s confirmed, it won’t be in the Events section here – sorry. If we post anything tour related without their confirmation and there are cancellations THEN it becomes OUR problem, whether we had anything to do with it or not. It’s a business, and unfortunately things don’t always make sense.

                  http://www.adamofficial.com/us/node/1249495

Nobody (not Adam, not his peeps, not his most ardent fans) are talking about this gig anymore. Way to promote yourself, Mr. Rockstah! Unless this whole thing is just an embarassing obligation required to pay off some mounting debt? I’m just completely confuzzled, so I’ve come here for clarification.

Get on it, TI, will you! Peel yourself off Drew Brees’s mole and GET BACK TO WORK!

The AO mod is hilarious. Every once in a while s/he loses patience and makes really bitchy comments (that’s my favorite). Other times he overshares and now he’s refusing to acknowledge this casino gig. I think he’s doing that to discourage the OTT glamberts from buying tixs. He knows that AO is full of nutters.

It’s nothing to do with being the winner, IGB or not. The three winners before Kris (Cook, Jordin, Taylor) didn’t get sent anywhere for IGB as far as I can remember, although Carrie, Elliott, Daughtry (the group) and Fantasia did, as well as Randy, Paula and Simon. And only two of that group won Idol. I think Elliott has said he’s going to Africa again this year with the mosquito net project and he’s the only one I’ve heard of so far. If Fuller asked Kris, it’s because he’s a good person to send, like Elliott.

Or maybe they were both chosen because they’re tiny and won’t overwhelm the local citizenry. (KIDDING!)

Exactly, I know a couple of people who’ve had an abortion. It wasn’t an easy choice to make. Sometimes it’s just necessary… for a myriad of reasons. My best friend in college had one, and also a coworker (at age 14) had one. It’s not something they like to discuss, but at the same time, it’s not exactly a secret. My best friend’s ( from college) mother got roundly criticized by her fellow church ladies when they discovered what had happened. Ironically, about 3 or 4 years later, my friend found out that the most vocal of those critics had also obtained a secret abortion for her own daughter while she was still in high school. But of course, I’m sure that was “different.”

A little OT but I think we found Hollysockpuppets or at least Tess at TwoP. The heiffer has been going on about how as a Fortune 500 marketing manager, she’s well aware that Kris is a giant marketing failure. And his CD sales means he isn’t making revenue for Jive.

    Tess’/sockpuppet prattle:

Poker101- I hope Kris can a) draw in more fans willing to purchase the full CD, as well as continuing his single sales, and b) find some related form of revenue that keeps him the public eye (commercials like the Ford one, sponsoring related products, etc.). This way his fans can hope to find him in the public eye one way or another, and for a longer period of time.

SongofRoland: “I’ve heard of this unique ‘related form of revenue’ that record labels also like: getting out there and performing your butt off for paying audiences. Weird idea, but it might be worth a try.”

Poker 101: I’m aware that there’s a lot of ‘suspicion’ where this strategy is concerned. Some aren’t sure if it works, but for what it’s worth, as a marketing manager for a Fortune 500 company, I can assure you that it does. And then there are those that just don’t want to acknowledge it as a valid strategy because then they’d have to acknowledge how well it does work – for the runner up of AI8, at any rate.

If Kris pursues the CD/concert route only, I wish him luck in raising enough revenues to keep him in the eye of the storm that the modern-era music machine has become. This worked for some other performers in his mold back in the day – James Taylor, a personal favorite of mine springs, to mind. Unfortunately in this day and age, with digital technology and the piracy that goes with it, and with the taste of most of the listening audience globally, I have to wonder if JT would make it at all. And although Kris is good, he’s no James Taylor.

I’m also looking forward to which one between Jekyll and Hyde can win the I LOVE DEEZ MORE contest.

Oh, and in other news, I really did used to work in marketing for a Fortune 500 company (it got bought by a multi-national comglomerate and doesn’t exist anymore and I haven’t worked there since 1990, anyway) but here’s the deal — we dealt with a product that has nothing to do with the music industry and I don’t know shit from shinola about how one would market a musical performer. I do know a little bit about how to market books and writers, because I left that company to be a writer and that’s what I’ve done ever since, and I’ve seen publishing company’s pathetic attempts at marketing up close and personal.

Marketing for Fortune 500 Company? Not relevant. Personal experience with publishing industry? A little more relevant but still not very.

I think the one you quoted had to be Q3. She works for WalMart, doesn’t she? She probably works in the shower curtain aisle putting up those Happy Face signs and she calls that marketing.

Thanks for the marketing info, jukejoint. It puts a lot in perspective.

That also explains a lot. I mean, Q3 working for Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I’ve even done some low level PR for new music acts, and I have a general idea of how that industry works, but I would never make a presumption about Kris’ marketing strategy or the label’s opinion of it. There are too many variables, and each label and imprint has different expectations. It’s just so individual, and that’s true of the rest of the entertainment business too.

I will say this, though. Usually labels that have given up on artists don’t send them overseas for mini-tours. It’s possible that 19M had a bigger hand in it, but he would need label support. Ditto with the Atlantis gig. Again, these are generalizations, and it could be that his management has taken over the reigns, but that just seems so unlikely given Kris’ attitude towards Jive in interviews.

Also, having worked in a bookstore, it’s nice to hear that we aren’t the only ones who think a lot of publishers’ marketing schemes are whack.

Mediabase day. We should hear from the “experts” today about why and how Who cannot compare to ADAM OMG HE IS A SUPESTAH.

I don’t even think Q3 works for Walmart. I think she obsesses full time.

I’m not a marketing anything. I don’t even know how they market stuff but I have math/economics/business related degrees (none of which I use right now) which (I believe) qualifies me to say that Idol people are idiots. I have no idea what made them invest so much in Lambert and throw that other kid under the bus. I honestly thought that at one point they will switch. Which they did not. I think that further proves my theory that Idol people are retarded.

But if I had to make an uninformed speculation, I’d say they messed up both kids’ marketing. They pushed the runner-up too much, he had no depth nor experience and it showed: people didn’t buy it. They didn’t give the winner a chance to prove himself so people have no idea who he is.

Either way, we’ll know in a year or so who will manage to stay and who will become a joke. I think the kid who won will be forgotten and the kid who didn’t will be a joke. But who knows?

In some respects I agree about the importance of shedding the AI stigma. I do think that he would appeal to a lot of people who normally scorn anything related to American Idol, people who otherwise would never give Kris’s music a chance because he had been on the show.

In a way it’s almost ironic that he won, since it seems to me he is sort of the antithesis of what that show is about.

Sorry, but I do not see how Kris’ video deserves to be #1. I am not that crazy about the song to begin with. And there is no concept to his video. He isn’t photographed that well – what the heck did they do with his hair??? And his small stature seems dwarf bye the backdrop. Also, the bit of him throwing the mike at the end is so cliché.

“I honestly do not see how LLWD legitimately deserves to be a #1 video. To begin with, it doesn’t even photograph Kris in a good light. Because of his small stature, he often looks dwarfed around the scenery and backdrop. And what the heck happened to his hair? We have also seen him performing and playing guitar and piano many, many times before. Nothing creative there at all. And the last scene of him throwing the mike has been done many, many times before. Nothing new there are all.”

More from poker101,,,her (its?) concern is touching.

      Poker101
Branding, like PR, is an element of marketing. Marketing an artist involves a whole lot of things, and affect the perception, exposure and sale of the final, packaged product/service (both the artist and the CD are considered a product and both ultimately need to be ‘packaged’ correctly to complete the branding element). Good marketing can result in good perception, exposure and sales (given good product quality), and bad marketing can result in bad perception, exposure and sales (even if the product quality is good, unfortunately). There’s no doubt that the ‘sound’ of Kris’s CD (his voice, backup vocals, the music itself, the lyrics, the instrumentation, the digital mix/track overlays/production, etc.) will affect the brand, but a lot of other marketing things have to happen for branding to work correctly.

Whether Kris’s brand is perceived as good or bad will be affected by a whole lot of things, all of them part of the marketing plan. Things I worry about in how I see his marketing plan unfolding:

      1.) Target demographics

There are lots of tweens with disposable incomes from their parents/grandparents, etc., but this is a notoriously fickle market, and will turn their attention to the next cute boy artist fairly quickly. Also, artists tend to grow too old for this demographic at the same time. Tweens are attracted to boyish, non-threatening (asexual) celebrities, and grown men usually have a small window to fit this image.

      2. Expsure

Kris is gaining good radio spins, but as commented here fairly frequently lately there is some confusion, even among those that liked him on AI, that he even has a CD out. His management team has to do a better job of associating his actual face, along with his name, with his music. He needs to be seen more, and not just in the musical venues, but in places where those who aren’t aware of him can be exposed. Of course if he tours as an opening act for an artist or group with a big following, whose demographics match those that fit Kris, this will happen over time. I’m pretty sure he’ll gain new fans this way, and hope his team plans that out well. I hope he doesn’t open for the Jonas Bros, as I think that ultimately this is the wrong demographic for him (see #1 above). I’d like to see him get more daytime TV exposure to draw in a broader, more stable fanbase.

      3. Image

I think they need to work on this a bit – a little styling perhaps, that will help give him a recognizable ‘Kris’ look. I don’t mean eye-liner and leather – that’s not a fit for him – but something besides the jeans, t-shirt and unbuttoned plaid over-shirt look. It just looks a bit messy/unprofessional/unsophisticated. An artist has more freedom to do these things once they’ve gained a certain degree of celebrity, but to get to that point appearance requires a bit more attention.

      4. Musical Identity

I think there is both some confusion and blandness about his identity as it exists right now. Much of the music on the CD sounds the same. Consistency is good, but not repetition. He needs to find an identity, stick to it, but be as expansive as possible within that identity to maximize interest from his potential audiences.

There are a few other things I think his team should focus on, but these are the four biggies for me.

I swear she is Q3. Basically she thinks he needs to be everything he is not. Go to media events and not play concerts…wth?? Just because Adam is not getting gigs means Kris should stop. She is the biggest idiot.

That’s absolutely, positively Q3. From her secret marketing lair in Mississippi, she knows all.

I especially like “more of a daytime presence.” Because the soaps are dying right and left, Oprah is bowing out and they keep sticking cheaper reality and game shows onto the schedule and losing more viewers. Maybe she wants Kris to give up another rib on The Doctors.

No, what she really wants to do is say “Anything that Kris does is wrong and bad and will never succeed and anything that Adam does is right and good and will absolutely succeed, but Kris shouldn’t try that, because he’s not Adam and he will fail, anyway, because I say so and I want him to fail because in my twisted mind that will make Adam look better.”

No Kidding…I went to Hawaii years ago with some friends, we veered off the beaten path to do some non-touristy things, and decided to go with “majority rules” for dinner one night. My choice was a mom & pop joint with a lot of cars out front…but instead, I got the Pizza Hut next door. (WTF)…Still haven’t forgiven that. I can get greasy pizza at home. (I will say that poi is nasty, though)

I can’t watch it – I tried but had to stop…but kudos to Kris for trying. David Cook was supposed to try balut as well last year, the jury’s still out as to whether he actually did or not. He’s made a “you’ll never know” comment which makes one wonder.

I couldn’t get through watching the whole thing, but good for him for trying new things while abroad. I also hate it when people look down on local cuisine while traveling.

Off topic, but I really like the glasses he’s wearing in the first video.

There can never be enough Kris w/ glasses pics/vids, as far as I’m concerned.

eww but that is their cuisine there…funny video though. How much salt did he use? Trying to have an heart attack? I really wished we got to see Kris’ humor on AI. He is a very funny dude.

Times like this I think I should go all-out vegan. Because, really, when you eat an egg? Yeah, potential baby chicken. Or potential Heisman Trophy winner… 😉

I could never do vegan. I eat eggs as little as possible though.

LOL oh lord, honestly the video cracked me up so much – I wanna know who told him to “think of the fetus” and “name it Bruce” – but I should NOT have looked up pics of balut. Knowing it’s duck fetus was enough; I really didn’t need to SEE pictures of poor baby ducks! I like baby ducks 😦 Then again, Kris was in leather and glasses so I’m happy. (LOL also, sorry about your twitter feed yesterday, the convert videos from Manila were really kinda awesome and I couldn’t help tarding over them 😦 )

It would have been awesome if he named it Justin.

It would be better if he named it Gokey 😛

Yeah, it seems that neither fetus will ever go through puberty. I mean….Justin is 16 in 3 weeks. Somethin’ just ain’t right here………….

(The narrator/videographer is Kris’s assistant Lizzie.)

And I agree with you about Kris–I love that he is willing to try the more adventurous local delicacies. When in Rome!
