About Top Idol

I’m not bad. Sometimes, I just write that way.

This for those of us who really think American Idol is complete crap, yet feel somewhat compelled to watch it. If American Idol is a guilty pleasure, it should be much more pleasurable.

(In case you were wondering, currently my favorite TV show is Mad Men.)

I enjoy research. Love it. The reasons I fell into writing a blog on a show I really didn’t care about, it’s too long to go into here. But I really did “fall” into doing it. And the more and more I started learning about Idol, its contestants and most of all, its most devoted fans, I began to realize that many Idol blogs didn’t delve into the fun stuff.

The fun stuff being the things that require research.

And as far as the Fantards go, my belief is that if your devotion towards a past or current AI contestant interferes with your daily life and causes you to sever ties with those who do now share similar beliefs, its time to take a good look in the mirror and think about what’s really important. You can call me a hater and say I have “no sense of humor” but I’m not the one taking a silly television show so seriously. And I have no problem making fun of fantards who can’t handle other people having a different opinion regarding the object of their sick & twisted obsession.

It’s just a TV show. Get over it. The world has got far bigger problems than whether or not Greasy Constantine will become a “triple threat” in the world of entertainment.

Oh, and when the word tard is used to describe a fervent AI fan, it’s in no way a reflection of how people feel about those with mental disabilities. Just because people use the word tard or fantard does not mean they hate those who are be mentally challenged. It means they think this sort of behavior is some of the stupidest they have ever witnessed.

Wondering about other things discussed on this blog? Here’s a handy list:

  • So You Think You Can Dance
  • America’s Next Top Model
  • More to Love
  • The Room
  • Jon Hamm…and all things Mad Men
  • Burning Man
  • Midgets
  • Assorted other randomness

I try and add more THRILLING CONTENT whenever I can, and suggestions are always welcome. YOUR recaps/reviews/photos/et al are ALWAYS welcome. Perhaps one day I will be able to pay you for such things. Perhaps one day I will be able to pay myself for these things, too.

Want to contact Top Idol? It’s easy! And I almost always write back.

    Oh man.
I’m a serious Idol freak and yet you entertain me a LOT.
Because, seriously? After watching Idol for about 6 years straight, if you’re not making fun of it, you must be blind. Or stupid. Or both, dammit.

Oh, almost done, but not quite…

Please don’t get me started on the “dawgs” and “you da bomb” and “you da man” and my most recent favorite, “dopest.” If Idolers start trying to be hepcats with these Jacksonisms, I will…well, I don’t know what I’ll do, but it will be drastic and I mean it (stamp your foot here for the full effect of my outrage).

Fantards, Idol commentators, Idol forum layabouts, Idol “journalists,” Idol…well, everybody else…please stop with the I’m-sooo-in-with-the-cool-kids snippets, already! Pipes? Stay true to yourself? Make it your own? Doesn’t it bother anyone else that Idlers…uh, I mean Idolers…cannot express a thought without using Idolese during the many (MANY) months that the show is aired?

“Wow, that purple-haired girl has some good pipes.” “The visually impaired guy just stayed so true to himself when he put me into a coma with that song.” “That group sure made the ad their own when they were pelted by water balloons next to a Ford something or other!” Would I seriously hear any of that crap as I walked out of a concert in the REAL world? Am I supposed to believe that average, musically uneducated, tv viewers use words like “pipes” in their everyday lives?? Um, I’m guessing I’d actually hear “she’s a dang good singer” as I pushed my way through a crowd at the Piggly Wiggly post-Idol season.

I might blame the four bobbleheads who are too lazy to come up with anything original to say, except, thinking through that, they must be bored as hell doing this show every year. I’d probably parrot myself as well. Anyway, clearly Idolers yearn to be part of the “in” crowd (read: those who stand on the stage bathed in glaring lights – until Ryan proclaims Dim The Lights on results night, that is). I suppose spewing Idolisms for 3 months is the closest people can get to being one of the Famous from their Lazy Boys.

Call me intolerant, bitchy, snooty, whatever, but those Idolers who can’t speak in plain English during the endless months of Simon nipping out in undershirts on national tv need to be sequestered on a far (FAR) away island until the show ends.

I may be done ranting now.

Being an AI hater is not a pleasant thing. I enjoy Idol show,no shame to say it out loud. I love it based on the music they made, based on contestants’talents and good pipes. I dont see the show interfere with my daily life in any single way. It’s nothing more than an entertaining music-eduacated show. For those brats born after 80s, Idol show gives good lessons for classic oldies made before their time. Very eudacational I would say.

He would win 10 Tonys, 5 Oscars and 6 Grammys + an Emmy for Special Guest Appearance in a Drama, a few Obies and a Drama Desk Award; yet none of this would change the fact that the guy is a complete douchebag who treats women with complete disrespect, takes advantage of naive teenagers and refers to the handful of fans he has left as “bitter whores”.
