Bootie Mashup is awesome. I’ve heard several of their bootlegs over the years, but I now have an even greater appreciation for them after seeing them live when they played the night at my Burning Man camp.
You need to hear The Best of Bootie 2009. You should also go see their killer DJs if you live near or are visiting one of the cities they frequently play. I promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s probably the only place you will EVER hear Kelly Clarkson mixed with Ozzy Osbourne mixed with Pink mixed with Daft Punk. Bootie Mashup is all sorts of fun and guess what? They’ve even included some Glee song on this year’s Best Of edition (I know you people watch that show. I just can’t get into it. Sorry. I know.) AND they’ve made Journey’s now-excruciating Don’t Stop Believin’ bearable by mashing it up with Lady Gaga’s Just Dance. (It totally works! And I’m loving the Call Me Uprising mashup)

Besides an insane obsession with checking their computers, this post shows a typical housewife day. There is no job and all this person does (besides stalk Adam online) is clean the house, wash dishes, make food for her “hubby.” Yeah, good job taking advantage of your equality. I amsorry that the average day in a Glmabert is so stereotypical of like the ’40s. Really, you are allowed to work now, ya know?

Danny irritates me too personally. To me the stand outs were always Kris Adam and Allison. I do think voters were swayed by Simon and to a degree Paula about Danny. He had a back story they could work with and they ran. Either Simon wanted to hurt Idol before leaving, but I also think he is a very smart rat who knows when to desert the ship. Leave when they are on a down, and bring in your X factor. Didn’t it replace Pop Idol in the UK?
I actually enjoyed Danny on tour, except for the sappy last song. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a cool vibe, which is what Kris has going for him, and Adam as well, although it’s a different sort of cool vibe than Kris has. Danny is just not current, he’s more the type a grandma would love.
Kimberly: ITA with your two irrefutable truths (YTITs). Kris and Adam are clearly the most radio-friendly contestants from S8 – hands down. I was surprised when the download totals were posted to see that Danny was so far down the list, and IIRC, Allison didn’t sell much, either. Kradam was so. far. ahead. of everyone else – those two were the clear prospects for commercial success, and despite what some BSC crazies say, I’m sure 19 always planned to sign Kris based on how well he sold. I agree, I just don’t see Danny being viable…
Danny irritates me personally, but when he controls himself, he has a really good voice. If he could learn how to use it, and not just BELT everything (while simultaneously making faces, handhearts, and cabbage patching)he might have a future. Plus, he needs to practice the whole “speaking in public” thing. Rewatching S8, I was reminded how he felt the need to explain his every thought and movement to the nth degree.(JFC, that was annoying).
I couldn’t decide if Danny really *was* that clueless, or if he just bought into Paula’s slobbering. In his Idolatry interview he repeated over and over again that he didn’t know any non-gospel music before he went on the show… but he WATCHED the fricking show beforehand! And he had plenty of time between his audition/Hollywood/January to get a handle on music. It wasn’t hard to predict a country week, a Motown week, a year-you-were-born week… Not to mention that he apparently listened to salsa and R&B with his wife, so more non-gospel music…
So, and this is of “vast importance”. S9 starts at 7pm. “Mom” needs to hurry up and get home so we will have a new, more empty post to snark in…we’ve kinda trashed the house, lol.

Ughhhhhh….I forgot how much auditions suck. Yup, I am not watching all of them…There are more important things in my life such as LOST, 24, and Dollhouse.
Did anyone notice Justin (was that the name?) He was a nice looking guy with a good voice, but they made sure to talk about his mission work(he’s from Utah, so I’m I’m guessing Mormon), and talk about cancer treatment. Somebody @ Mj’s has already named him “Frankenstein” b/c he was a weird mixture of Kris and Danny. (sympathy pimping AND mission work!)

I liked the ginger dude with the knit hat that was playing the guitar in the jam session with two other guys. I missed his name.
I had a few things on my mind, and just wanted to put them in writing. The thread looks a little wonky, so this post might not even be legible. But here goes…
After catching some of the Top 3 season 8 reruns, two irrefutable truths came to mind: 1.) Kris Allen and Adam Lambert were the top selling I-tune IDOLS of SESAON 8, 2.) Danny Gokey was not/is not marketable in the pop/rock genre — CHR/HAC. I’m not even sure about Country. He was never a current singer, not relevant in the music industry. (Danny Gokey had an 80s vibe, Paula still thinks its the 80s.)
Paula and perhaps Simon planned on a Gokey-Lambert Finale, but taking into account the above two facts, from a business perspective, Gokey was not a viable product. Simon didn’t care either way. It was a game to him, a sport really. Let’s see how “powerful” his opinion is, how much he can manipualte America. He was hauling ass anyway (x-factor), and what he makes off these kids is a drop in the bucket. What was best for AI and Simon Fuller more than likely didn’t even cross Simon Cowell’s mind.
Season 7 had some I-tune sellers as well, David C. and David A, specifically. But, Brooke White and Jason Castro also sold well. If I’m not mistaken, Danny Gokey did not sell nearly as well as the season 7’s top 4 and 5 contestant.
Sure, it’s all about a tv show, but the premise needs to be supported by having successful winners/contestants. Plus, there is money to be had, if those contestants are successful.
There are many an opinion on this subject, but cutting through the B.S., the bottom line is pretty obvious. Common sense prevails and those 2 irrefutable truths.
Kimberly, I agree with these truths too. And I agree that to Simon it’s probably a sport to manipulate public opinion on the contestants. I’m wondering if he also had an ulterior motive in pimping Danny so much: tarnishing AI’s musical credibility (such as it is) before his X-factor debuts.

I have to be honest — I skip over posts that are spelled poorly and all run together or weirdly punctuated or whatever. Just too hard to read. So I hadn’t read much of pooporange or nyc, because they can’t put together a whole thought. If I try to read it, it comes off as babblebabbleblahblah…blahbabbleduhduhduh… And my brain goes, “WTF is this trying to say? Not worth my time. I’m outta here” and it starts humming show tunes or something.
Back with hwc and the whole “the kid who won Idol” thing, which a similar deal, it was so clear he was trying to be assy and get people upset that I refused to notice him. The old “he does not exist in my universe” ploy. You’d be surprised how nice it is to know that someone like hwc doesn’t exist in your universe. So now passive aggressive poop organ doesn’t exist in my universe, either. She can fling her poop till there’s no more poop left to fling and I won’t even notice.

I tend to think it’s a game because some of her posts are actually quite articulate with perfect spelling (other than Kris Allan), and then others are a complete mess. But who knows? Didn’t someone say she posts at PF a lot? Are her posts incoherent over there, too, or is this just for MJ’s? If she really does have some problem, then I do feel badly, but the inconsistencies seem fishy to me.
BTW, I think Kirsten is the one who gets her name misspelled most often over there, anyway, lol. People are always calling her Kristen – one time, she answered “Who’s Kristen? Are you talking to me?”. It must get aggravating.

I’m telling ya’, pooporange is seriously learning disabled or suffered a stroke that has impaired her cognitive functioning. Her writing, in it of itself, indicates that something is wrong cognitively with her. Her psycho Kris issues just implies that she also suffers from a mental disorder.

I loved the sparkle cows rying to play down the second BB King gig. You could smell the desperation. The dumb thing is, the CES gig was paid for by Sony, so it was Sony’s decision to have the acoustic vibe. Not Jive being cheap. You don’t then fly in the band for pick up gigs. Heck, it was incredibly cool that he got them!

Yeah, Adam is partly to blame for the messes he’s getting himself into. I also read that fans followed him to him car in some parking garage. No shock there. They waited then followed. While some of his friends are eating up the publicity (Cheeks and Cassidy for example), I bet he’s pissing off a lot more. It’s a double edged sword for them too now. I’ve been in situations where fans spy and crash after parties and private events, and trust me, when you and your friends arrive and it’s packed with a bunch of univited people monopolizing peers who are trying to be polite, have no place to sit, etc, it gets old fast. They may be getting their names in the minor gossip press, but at what cost? Those women were there for Adam, and those women who are fantarding over his friends are just tarding over Adam by proxy and have ulterior motives.
Hollygo has just enough knowledge as a low end cube slave for some entertainment related company to come off sort of knowing what she’s talking about when her meds are working 😉 Then she becomes a combative know it all. She used to post as “snuffles” at MJs and Rickey’s.
I know what you mean about no place to sit because of the “fans.” I also look at people who would give anything to be able to just work at what they love – in this case, acting – and be able to get by without people caring about their personal lives. People who genuinely don’t talk about their personal lives, and avoid paparazzi stalked places on purpose, and still get bothered. They know it comes with the territory, but the famewhores really do make it worse for them.
I know from personal experience that that’s about 95% true. I also know that 5% really have become fans of these other artists. Some of them will, or have, become fans of these other artists, and are no longer fans of Adam. I just hope they have the presence of mind not to get stepped on too hard by the Glamberts in disguise. (I wouldn’t have any idea what that’s like…really…)
I do get a kick out of the fact that Q3’s BSC behavior kind of pushed “snuffles” off of MJ’s. I guess Hollygo couldn’t praise Adam effusively enough.
I don’t like Cheeks at all. If anyone is a famewhore from that crew it’s him. He exploits his past relationship with Adam to foster his own sense of celebrity. He is always implying that he is still connected to Adam in these cryptic promos for his you tube videos and pod casts. One thing that Hollygo did do that I appreciate, is calling him out as the coattail-rider that he is. Adam didn’t even acknowledge his presence at that club.
I may not be satisfied with Adam’s career management, but I don’t think he’s losing any fans, at least not in significant numbers. (I track membership numbers.) For instance, he averages 1,000 new followers per day on Twitter. That is impressive. Some days I have noticed more than 2,000 followers sign on.
Cheeks would be an embarrasssing ex to anyone.
Is Adam getting new followers on twitter who are FANS though, or is he just getting people who follow “celebs” and others currently in the news? I follow a bunch of past idol contestants and I’m certainly not a fan of most of them. I finally unfollowed Jorbacca, and I can’t stand the bitch. I follow Gokey too. I don’t follow Quatto Killer, but I did notice something interesting. He’s the only one of the past contestants that Paula follows…
Hold up, what has Cheeks done? He was the one ex that seemed OK. At least his mother wasn’t giving quotes to Star magazine. Then again, I don’t keep up with the Cheeks’ career. What gives?
It’s just that when ever Cheeks has a video or pod cast to promote he tends to imply some connection to Adam right before the release to garner interest. For instance, he has a new video coming out and has tweeted that he’s going to the Grammys. Of course the sparkle cows assume it’s with Adam—lets face it, who else does he know with a Grammy invite. It gets old.
I’ll respectfully disagree that this one. While Cheeks isn’t above alluding to or hinting at his past relationship with Adam to get attention, he hasn’t ACTUALLY compromised Adam’s privacy either. And I’m sure that in the height of the media frenzy over Adam, he was offered/ could have gotten substantial monetary compensation for doing that, and he’s a starving artist. So I respect him for that. Plus he’s funny, and he and Adam seem to still be on good terms. I can see what Adam saw in him.

I think you are underestimating the stalkers. They had the tickets wayyyyy before Adam tweeted about it and were downlaying it after they found out (because they were bit schooled by some normal-ish IDF members for the stalking on new years) with ” yay Adam is coming too, we didn’t know that, we bought the tickets last week already”. I believe it, because they stalk all of his friends and family members, so they knew.
He needs to get rid of them ASAP. It’s just disgusting !
Adam seems nice (in some interviews, when he gets to the point of being relaxed and himself), most of the time he is freaked out IMO and making mistakes and using some defense mechanisms…idk. I don’t think he has enough confidence to let go and be himself.

One of the things people need to understand, is that these OTT stalker fans do not want their Idol to be very successful. They may claim that they do, but what they really want is access. I have a whole lot of info on this one particular nut, Hollygo – and she’s a case study on the behavior. She really did a number along with a group of other frau on Sanjaya’s career, literally. He is arguably the most famous person ever to come off Idol and she, with other’s acted as a “free” team advising the dumbfuck mother of his, and contracts and offers were passed on, people working for him were attaqcked, etc. It was a coven of random fan board hangers on who wanted to make rank. She’s doing the same thing with Adam, including befriending another tard with actual media credentials. Methinks this little episode blew it for her with him. On to another…two days and counting…
I’m finding while reading through threads at the multiple sites that these fans are quite delusional about Adam’s career and prospects. Right now he’s getting the money and publicity push. The reality is that his CD and singles are not doing well. They seem to think that the stalker situation (not them of course 😉 ) is going to get worse as he gets more famous. Newsflash – that does not seem to be happening here. If anything he is being overexposed in the media, and without concrete success, that will turn on him and bite him in the ass. He can start hanging with Jon Gosslin 😉 I think Adam fears this. He knew damn well what he was doing tweeting and teasing. Just like what he pulled with OUT, he can’t have it both ways. I’m seeing a pattern with him.
I think the media has already invested too much in the “Adam as superstar” theme to change direction at this point. If they were to let him drop out of sight, it would make themselves look like idiots for buying into/extending the hype before he actually achieved anything.
The media is extremely fickle, and there’s nothing they love more than turning on someone. We made you a star and now we can take it away, damn it! I don’t think they will have any problem turning Adam into even more of a punchline than he is now if he goes the way of Taylor Hicks, who got a lot of press, by the way. He was a People Hottest Bachelor (maybe THE People Hot Bachelor) with a book deal and a brand (Soul Patrol and Gray Charles may be the brandiest brand ever to come out of Idol. Might not have been a viable or GOOD brand, but it was definitely a brand.) and lots of ink about whether he was gay or who he was dating and all that kinds of crap. As soon as it became clear he was not going to be a mega seller and Daughtry was, the press turned on him like rabid dogs. Justin Guarini was the other press darling who became a punchline.
That’s the problem with Adam and his team’s approach, IMO. They’ve invested so much in his being a supposed pre-made star coming off Idol, that if his sales don’t match the hype or he gives a bad live performance, the non-Idol public will write him off as a joke. He’ll be seen as some sort of celebutante that no one gives a rat’s tail about after the initial fascination is gone. It’s Oprah today, but it can be a VH1 “Whatever Happened To?” segment the next unless you plan accordingly.
The OTT fans don’t help his cause. No one with a shred of good sense wants to deal with those nutjobs. They did the same thing with Clay and Taylor. They tried to do it with Cook, but he had the guts to call them on their behavior. He softened his stance a bit, but the initial cut drew blood and that’s what he needed. These idiots don’t understand polite rejection. Just cuss them out and let the ball bounce where it may.
Basically, Adam/his team/whoever in a 1-mile radius of the guy that’s actually smart need to get things focused on the music. Book some small shows for extra, yet quality exposure. Give canned statements to the celebrity magazines. It keeps you in the public eye without actually being part of the paparazzi parade. Stop tweeting your location–that’s an open invitation for the cray-crays to come a-mooing. JUST SHUT UP AND SING, ALREADY!
I think if this latest single does only so so, it’s over for Adam and the media will start to turn on him. I’m amazed while following all this about how many people with power are such tards. If someone like Lyndsey Parker had any journalistic credibility and credibily as a critic before, she doesn’t now. She’s a joke. She writes like a damned sparkle cow when it’s about him. He’s on Yahoo’s front page for no reason at all. It’s just hype. He is not a true celebrity, he’s having it bought for him. Not sure how long AI is going to pour money into this pit of theirs. Simon leaving is now putting their whole brand into chaos as well. In order to make the money on the TV show – which is where the real money is, they need to create a few “stars” from it to keep their myth alive.
I also think Adam’s OTT 80’s influenced look is on the way out. Fashion swings around quite fast. He’s made a big deal about this being the real him, so what’s he going to do if there’s a change? Try to play the Bowie card and be a chameleon? He’s such a poseur. Ugh. Plus he looks like shit. His so called “high end” fashion tastes and friends are a step above the mall rawk shops like Hot Topic. It will be so easy for them to turn…knives are sharpening…

It’s funny because even if he has some fame whore tendancies, I do think he has the right to be annoyed when someone gives a play by play of what he did during the night and behaves as bsc as Holly. I think he needs to find a way to balance this out. Maybe someone on his team giving him more structure or managing these things for him (advise him about not tweeting his location, unless it’s a gig he’s doing, etc).

LOL the drama has def quieted down, but the main drama I see is usually over the BRILLIANT and EXCELLENT BEST EVER type comments made by some fans, and the inevitable LOL backlash that occurs post haste. Because, you know, Adam is the first and most unique and bestest Idol alum ever. He is a Global Superstar and will have best-selling clothing and makeup lines and be offered all sorts of plum acting roles because of his BRILLIANCE.
Also, there are a few really passive-aggressive (like maybe only less than 5 now) Adam fans who like to go on Kris threads and make belittling comments about “supper” clubs, singing covers, and some constantly misspell his name (poporange being the most famous of these spelling trolls).
Definitely fewer drama llamas, though, lately.

Lauren, it’s not NEARLY as bad as it used to be. During the tour, it was ridiculous. There have been a couple of threads lately that brought out the crazies, but MJ deleted about half the comments in them. I hardly ever read the comments in a post about Adam, I just read the news…so maybe the fanwarring has died down in his posts. If there is good news about Kris, or anything that might possibly be construed as positive, there is a handful (pooporange…lol…Q3, Tess, Alaadam, and a couple of others) who never fail to add their 2 cents…mostly in a “concerning” manner. Most of us have gotten to the point that we ignore them, but sometimes it gets ugly. The AMA thread got pretty bad. (I wasn’t banned over my stupid faux pas BTW, haha) One poster said that Gaga deserved to win and she was happy for her, although she had been hoping Adam would win. But, at least he was a deserving nominee, whereas Kris was not.
Ross (my fav Mj’s Kristard) replied that not only did he not deserve to be nominated, but that he didn’t even deserve to live. LOL. Usually if you agree in the most OTT manner imaginable they shut up.

lauren, IMO we get along much better than posters at most AI blogs b/c instead of being passive-aggressive, we say what we think, be it bitchy or snarky. Therefore, even if we disagree, we respect each other for being straight up honest. And since most people have a sense of humor, when others are negative about someone we like (e.g. Adam) we make fun or ourselves or the comment, which lessens the burn of the original remark.

This blog is like ESPN for Idols not everyone likes the same team or has wonderful things to say about that team..I deleted that “personality Plus” of possibly misunderstanding,ment by it is -OTT personality some out there-Adam sometimes has..Kris Allan personality wise has one not boring and his own style.Not great at some aspects that won’t hinder him..
pooporange, Kris’ personality is just fine. He’s not boring in the least, nobody can be a comedian 24-7. His tweets are pretty funny and he’s a good-guy. He is a good vocalist and arranger. I don’t understand, poppporangee, why you believe he isn’t. Adam is also a great guy with a great personality, even though he and Kris are quite different. They are good at different things. It doesn’t mean anything. Different things appeal to different people, paparange.

I actually was at one point. His friend/boy toy for the evening (??) said I could sit down after Lindsay Lohan (yes THAT Lindsay). I guess he thought I was getting a little too comfy because before I knew it Adam leaned over to me, rubbed my elbow and said “Honey, you know I love you but this is NOT your table….but I LOVE your necklace! Is that turquoise? It’s gorgeous!”
Then I scooted back a few inches and things were cool again. At the end of the night I apologized and he said that it was OK…”That necklace was worth it.” Then he kissed my hand and gave me a hug!
Now I’m not 100% sure if the guy with Adam was his date. Adam had his hand on his knee for a good portion of the evening. But then again, at one point in the evening Ferras had his arm around me at one point. At another point one of his male friends was rubbing his head against my legs while he sat on the floor in front of me (then later grabbed my hands and pulled me in to kiss me on my cheek). I even shared a seat with one his female friends at one point until we both got too uncomfortable.
So…I guess they’re just an extremely affectionate and friendly bunch.
P.S. To those readers over at MJs Blog talking sh!t about me and what happened last night. NO, I don’t feel like Adam “rewarded me for my efforts”. I got the message. That’s why apologized to him later for over stepping my boundaries. I just really appreciated how polite and forgiving he was.
And if you knew anything about me, you would know I don’t go to too many of these Adam related things. I don’t think the word “stalker” applies.

I agree with jukejoint’s analysis of Adam, and pattyluponey about his lack of training hurting him.
Interesting about musical theatre vs theatre acting education. Most of my friends have theatre acting degrees. A few have gone on to success in TV and film. Most are the typical theatre actors who thumb their nose at those pleebs on screen. Totally agree about never ceasing your education. It’s the same in all the creative arts, and in computers of all things. It’s no wonder that most of the real advances in programming and development were made by people with BAs.
Strangely, all my gay music degree and musician/ singer friends don’t like Adam. He’s not trained correctly to them, and he doesn’t appeal. All my gay theatre friends loved him during the show, even if they don’t love the album. Most of them were pretty turned off by the OUT magazine situation and some of this other behavior. These aren’t the PnP types. All of them think Kris is a cutey.

Pattyluponey (love the screenname, btw), every successful actor I’ve known are just as sure of their identity as any musician I’ve known. Or any writer, editor, director, artist, etc. You have to be to channel energy like that well. Learning musical theatre – or any theatrical acting doesn’t cause identity crisis. It shouldn’t anyway, and if it does you need to ask yourself some questions that go beyond training.
Adam didn’t really study the way I think of actors studying as it is. He took classes as a youth, and participated in high school productions, but I’ve seen no evidence of an adult acting school or a degree. Not to say he didn’t work at it. I’m just making the distinction.
That is not what caused this. It’s just a guy who hasn’t figured out the difference between who he is, and who he wants to be. That’s all. Happens all the time. No big meaning behind it.
8sourcandy, mainstream=/=pop music or radio play. Every genre has mainstream artists. Adam has shown no interest in anything beyond those, as far as I can see, and has shown no interest in exploring it either. That’s what I meant. His idea of pushing boundaries is shoving a guys head in his crotch. GaGa’s is destroying a symbolic music box on stage. One requires thought and meaning. One just causes momentary reaction. Adam doesn’t care about art, only having fun. That’s fine, but it’s nothing more than that.

I agree WooAmanda, and also agree with other comments about his tastes being mainstream. He is not edgy in the least. He’s being what Idol is all about, a reality TV show character. He’s playing rock/pop star. I don’t take him seriously just like I don’t take people like Kelly Clarkson seriously.

People only seem to be interested in the journey aspect and not the actual career of theses contestants. They also get pushed out into the REAL world too soon. I think after the tour they should take a year to define themselves. Put together their band. Play some live gigs, test out new songs and sounds. Keep them visible through TV appearances and interviews. If Idol needs to sell an end product by November, let them hawk a video/cd of the damn concert. A crisp, nicely edited video with kick-ass sound would be could be very profitable.

Because the main product is to sell commercials for the TV show. It’s a reality cast. They also make money with the tour, but after that, with a few exceptions, these people’s careers are money pits. That’s why they pretty much dispose of everyone but the top two. They need some to appear to be successful to keep that image and fantasy alive for the show to work.

You lost me there. Kelly isn’t the first major pop act to come from a competition. I hope it’s just that you don’t like her music, because she has definitely long since transcended the show she came from. Plus, she’s shown herself to be a real artist with some very good taste to boot.

I just think of her as another pop singer product playing at “rockishness” – just one that can sing better. I don’t listen to her stuff because she’s not to my taste. I’ve seen videos posted with her doing covers of good and interesting songs, but aren’t we back to karaoke again?

I guess the difference is I wouldn’t call Adam successful, yet. He is now, and was before AI, a struggling singer/actor. Yes, he was in Wicked, but that was the only big show he had done. (I wouldn’t necessarily call The 10 Commandments “big”, cuz it was only an LA show.) I’m not saying that all musical theatre actors go through an identity crisis, but many do. Especially the ones who have no acting training. The training I went through helped me discover who I was emotionally, but I’m still uncomfortable performing without a character. And maybe I’m projecting. I identify a lot with Adam’s struggles as a performer. I just am not famous, yet. 😉 And learning musical theatre is not a cause of low self-esteem. I didn’t mean to imply that. 🙂
And, no Adam is not classically trained in acting. His cocky 18-year-old self thought he would learn more in the “real world”. LOL What he does vocally shows that he has obviously had some operatic training, but I think he has said that he gave up voice lessons in his early 20s.
I agree with you, Pattyluponey, Adam does need direction. Not because he isn’t creative, but because he doesn’t see the big picture as clearly as he should. I also enjoyed hearing your perspective on his identity crisis. The other night someone twittered him asking him what TV shows he would consider guest starring he twittered this, “Those shows [Weeds, True Blood] are amazing. Prob need some major acting classes though first. The casts of both those shows are first rate.” I thought, ACTING CLASSES? I assumed that all that training included that. Musical theater still requires acting, doesn’t it?
Yes, a musical theater major at most places does include acting classes, but not as many or as comprehensive as an acting major. My niece is a musical theater major right now, and she will have two acting classes total her whole four years. Besides, most actors continue to take classes even after they graduate (if they graduate — I’ve known a ton of actors who majored in other things or dropped out or never went in the first place) just like dancers continue to take classes. I have a friend who’s been acting and teaching acting regionally for the last 25 years, and her kids are out of the house, so she decided to go to NY, enroll in some classes, do some auditions, get out there in the world. So she’s been taking classes since she was in college as an acting major, and here she is, at 50-something, still taking classes.
Besides, if the only acting he’s done is for the stage, that’s a lot different (and a lot bigger) than acting for the camera.
I agree completely about the lacking direction thing, btw. I think he has an amazing talent that he has never exactly known what to do with. He’s a skillful mimic and he can do what coaches or directors ask, but I’m guessing he does what other people tell him he’s good at rather than knowing in his heart that he MUST do or be something. A lot of people who are good at more than one thing are like that, where it takes a bit of time and effort to really dig deep and figure it out, rather than just saying, everybody tells me I have this gift for singing, so I guess I’ll go into musical theater, or I really like David Bowie, so I’m going for other-wordly and androgynous and try to be a rock star. Right now, the persona he’s closest to seems to be The Little Prince, and I don’t know about you, but I never really thought of The Little Prince as a fully formed 3-D character.
Back on the issue of not necessarily knowing what or who he wants to be, I thought there was a tell when he talked about why he tried out for American Idol even though he had achieved some level of success in musical theater (certainly not star status, although maybe legit Broadway star status like Victoria Clark or Denis O’Hare wasn’t enough, since Joe on the street is going to have no idea who they are) and he said that musical theater was his “bread and butter,” that it paid the rent but wasn’t what he really wanted. So did he say that because he kind of felt that “Broadway star” was really not going to happen by that point? Or was “rock star” or “pop star” or TV star what he really wanted? Or does he really know?
I like your take on it. It’s clear to me what he needs to do, I don’t know why it’s not clear to him.
Acting seems to go by the wayside in big musicals. Idina Menzel won a Tony for basically standing in place and belting her face off. Doing the regional theatre I’ve done the past 4 years, people seemed to be ok with a great actor who sang ok, or a great singer who acted ok…they were genuinely shocked by great singer/actors and didn’t know what to do with them.
OMG…acting for the camera is a whole different beast! Adam gives too much face right now to ever be a successful tv/film actor. He may give the eye, but have you seen his music videos? So much musical theatre!
On a side note, I latched onto Adam from his original audition 1) I was watching with my gay bff and we couldn’t believe they were showcasing a talented, obv open gay man and 2) the moment they said Wicked and we heard him sing, both of us said, “are they finally gonna feature a musical theatre vet?” My bff auditioned season 3, made it in front of Randy, Paula, Simon and was turned down…even though they said he was fantastically talented, but too musical theatre…
Funny what you said about Idina. I think she’s okay with the little film and tv acting I’ve seen of her, but her husband is the real talent. It always got me that Lea Michelle idolized her. She’d so much better to follow Kristen Chenowith. Talk about an all around talent! I get a lot of flack for not loving Lea, but she’s just like Idina to me. Beautiful voice, but only an okay actor. I wish I could have seen Spring Awakening. I was actually in NYC that winter, and didn’t know about it yet. And I’m a long time Duncan Sheik fan!

Okay, this is total armchair psychology of a guy I’ve never met, but I’m not sure Adam’s tastes venture too far from the mainstream. I think he feels like an outsider, so he wants to be outside the mainstream, but I don’t think his personal interests and influences are out of the mainstream. I think this is a big reason he comes across as a poseur to many, and why he’s not figuring out who he wants to be.He can’t be a GaGa type because they don’t come from the same place. He wants to be like GaGa, and GaGa wants use her influences to create a show that forces viewers to think outside the proverbial box. Am I making sense?
Again with the total presumption, but I kinda love that Jim C kept tweeting certain artists to Adam. It was like he was trying to give Adam a music education in the things Adam was trying to emulate, and it appears Adam totally wasn’t interested.

I see your point. I disagree about his tastes being mainstream, though. I think he has been talking up mainstream artists as he’s befriended or worked with them, but not because that’s his taste exclusively. He is purported to like classic rock, funk, electronic, R&B and showtunes! Which closely aligns with my taste in music and why I had very high hopes of him finding a sound that incorporated that eclectic mix. He succeeded, in my opinion, with “Down the Rabbit Hole,” and “Fever,” though not written by him, is a really good sound for him too.
I see him as a kid in a candy store wanting everything. He will figure it out. He is not stupid.

Most of the comments about Adam on this site are negative. ALL posts about Adam are derogatory or focused on his fans’ crazy antics. I don’t see why having an occasional post, that is positive, should evoke such annoyance. Kris fans that can’t accept Adam as being viable, are no different then Adam fans that mock Kris at every turn. There are several Adam fans here and some really cool Kris fans.

The funny thing to me is that, since when can you only be a fan of one artist? Just because you are a fan of Adam doesn’t mean you can’t be a fan of anyone else (although I’m sure the BSC stans would say that’s not possible). I’m a fan of all kinds of music and artists. In the Idol world I consider myself an Adam fan, Kris fan, Allison fan, David Cook fan, Kelly Clarkson fan…Hell, I even was a huge supporter of Matt Giraud during the season cuz we’re from the same town. The competition is over in May…there aren’t huge fan wars between fans of Green Day and Blink 182…
And, myself playing arm-chair psychology with someone I’ve never met, but one of the reasons people go on Idol is cuz they don’t know how to market themselves as pop artists. Adam also has the problem of having grown up in the musical theatre world where you aren’t yourself on stage. You always have a director telling you what to do and who to be. That’s an identity crisis right there. And, if he had not done what he had done in rehearsal in an Equity show, like he did on the AMA’s, he would have been given a monetary fine by the union.

I liked him best in the Zodiac Show performances. I like that underground, hippie/space vibe. He is not a pop performer. He needs to ease away from mainstream and focus on his own sound. He also needs a few more people around him with balls to tell him NO!

There’s more there to identify with than I ever realized. Everyone has gotten emotionally invested in something they shouldn’t have. I think it’s nice for the viewers to realize that no matter how bad they got, it wasn’t that bad. Most of them, anyway.
It’s a ten-minute play, erinthered. Short and sweet! It has OMG and LOL and h8ers and cheaters and bulges and gasms and stans and all kinds of fun packed into its ten minutes. I made up domain names and user names and warring factions. It was fun.

I just got thru re-watching MoTown week and was “treated” to the replay of “Get Retty” complete with dancing badly with the backup singers, mugging for the camera, and the craptastic “tweet- a-lee-dee… tweet-a -lee-dum” *shudder* and then Paula, Kara, and Randy slobbering all over the performance. (Thank God for Simon’s “amateurish mess”)
It still pisses me off.
I watched Motown week as well and I was somewhat surprised to see all the camera time Kris recieved. Makes me wonder … I guess I was too caught up in the Gokey-Paula-Lambert escapades to notice first time around. Kris was a joy to watch, especially during Stevie Wonder’s set. Lil actually looked happy next to Kris.
Gokey was a fool. He was never current. I did the little “get ret tay” Gokey dance for my daughter. She pretty much thinks her mom’s nuts. lol
Watching this back, I’m beginning to realize that just about every stupid Simon/Paula fight that happened was right after Kris played! What’s up with that?
I can’t watch it with the sound on because of the insanely stupid remarks made by the judges and Seacrest. I just turn up the volume when one of the contestants I like is performing. ( Adam, Kris and Allison.) The rest is tedious.
I think Paula picked all of the fights with Simon after Kris performed because she had to avoid saying anything good about Kris. You know, so he wouldn’t interfere with the Danny/Adam showdown she predicted the first week.

I should send you my monologue of a BSC fan. It was produced in Austin, and I’m adapting it to a screenplay. I got a lot of reacton to it, because most people just don’t know these people exist.

I just wrote a short play about the Idol crazed fan phenomenon, as well! (I called it something other than Idol, but the idea is definitelt there.) I haven’t put the finishing touches on it, but I’ll let you know if it gets picked for the play festival this summer. I was wondering whether it was too in-joke for general theatergoers (or the judges in the competition) but I love your argument about enlightening the general public who have no idea, erinthered.

I think in all fairness you should make some sort of attempt to post Blogs about Adam that aren’t intentionally derogatory or about his bat shit-crazy fans. His New Year’s Eve concert was well received and the LA Times gave it a great review. I had to traipse all over the Internet looking for people to discuss that event with and I would have rather stayed here to comment.
If you like Adam, as you keep saying you do, AND this is really a NOT Kristard site, then I think you need you show Adam Lambert some TOP IDOL LOVE in 2010! 🙂
That is an excellent idea. We need to balance the love/snark a little more. My feelings for Adam have been on the uptick after watching the MTVAsia promo and Lauren’s Kradam thingy she posted (awwww). I started avoiding all things Adam b/c of Glambert nonsense. If there was a way to keep out the crazy (hwc, KK, Q3…those nuts) then hell, yeah.
I like all of the articles we get here, even the non-AI related ones. But, I would like to see some positive Adam articles as well. It’s only his BSC fans that make me hide my fandom of him on the internet. In the world at large, where most people don’t know about the Glamberts, I am out and proud in my love for him. I’ve come to like this site a lot, but it’s still a bit unbalanced in terms of stories… the Kris and Allison stories are about gigs they’re doing and the Adam ones are about his fans and controversies. I’m 50/50.
I really don’t think he’s all that. He has a nice range, but I don’t think he really knows what to do with it. What he does do is pretty unoriginal, and I agree with the person in the other thread that he doesn’t really know what he wants to be yet. He wants to be something, but he’s still a bit all over the place. I know that artistically I’ll probably like him more when he figures that out.
Given that, I’m beginning to soften a bit. I still think he’s full of himself, and incredibly shallow, but at the same time I don’t think he’s a bad guy. I’m sure he’s a good friend, and a nice guy…as long as you aren’t overweight and “old.” Yeah, I don’t like the Glamberts any more than the rest of you, but there will always be normal fans who don’t fit a perfect physical stereotype, and he can’t behave the way he has been. Plus, if he says “It’s not that deep” one more time I will give up on him completely.
If people want more Adam stories I won’t bitch. I won’t squee either, but then again, I don’t really squee to begin with.

We need to get TI to reconsider Glee. She’s written it off because of its popularity, which is a damn shame because it’s absolutely in the same class as Lost and Mad Men IMHO.
I like Glee, but I hate the story line that involved the faux pregnancy (too soap opera). Ryan Murphy has said in an interview that next season will feature more musical numbers, which I am happy about. Kurt is my favorite character.
Yeah, that storyline really sucked, but they wrapped it up fantastically, with Will going justifiably apesh*t on his wife. Matthew Morrison is actually a really good dramatic actor.
