Faith Matters! (Or How Kris Allen Made The Top 12)

March 2, 2009

Kris Allen: Doll comes with football and purity ring

As we’re learning this season, you don’t just need votes. You need PRAYERS.

Ok. Well maybe its more like just making sure a pastor makes their congregation vote in the 100s or 1000s. And then some praying that all your texts and calls went through?

One Arkansas man could become the next American Idol. And his North Little Rock church is behind him all the way in both prayers and votes.

Kris Allen is no stranger to the spotlight. The 23 year-old UCA student has been on the worship team at New Life Church for years and often helps with their outreach.

But now the Church is reaching back.

At the Pastor’s urging church members have been at their prayers and their phones for Kris. In some cases they’ve called or sent texts to cast in hundreds or thousands of votes each for the rising star.

“I know some families that everybody had a phone including little itty bitty kids to text for those two hours,” said Pastor Rick Bezet.

“There’s just no way not to be excited. He’s just a young cool guy with this wonderful opportunity. He loves the Lord so he will be blessed because of that. We’re just all rooting for him. He can go all the way,” said church member Mandy Ferguson.

While some church members say they don’t know Kris personally, they say the community will support him to the end.

Well, now we know how Allen beat out fan favorites like Matt Giraud, Meghan Corkrey and the exquisite Normund Gentle. Itty-bitty kids and their parents were calling in votes for him. (Sorry, you know I just really wanted to say itty-bitty again.)

He’s just this young cool guy. He’s got this wonderful opportunity. He loves the lord. So, I mean…he just will be blessed because of that.

I’m sorry. I just loved that blonde chick’s quote. I couldn’t resist. So if he’s blessed by the lord, does that mean Sarver and Gokey are blessed any more or less? What about Adam Lambert? I think he is SUPER BLESSED. Anyway, does this mean the person who wins Idol is the most blessed?

OH MY HIM???!!!! The Lord plays favorites AND he watches American Idol????

Of course, other people are praying for Chris, too!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for uniquely gifting Kris Allen and for giving him an opportunity to compete on AI this season. We ask that he find favor with You, the fans, the judges, and the producers. We know that the joy that comes through in his music comes from You. We pray that this joy will touch the hearts of those watching and listening. We ask that You soften hearts and draw them to You through the witness of Kris Allen. Place Your hedge of protection around him. Keep him in good health, and keep his voice strong. Guide him as he makes his song selections and makes decisions about the music arrangements. Help him to make choices that best showcase his talents. Thank You for providing him with Christian friends in the top 12. We ask that You foster these friendships and friendships with those on AI that do not know You as Savior. Let the light that is in these men of God shine. Open the eyes of unbelievers. Let them see that their relationship with You is what makes these young men who they are. Give Kris opportunities to share Your love with others. Give him supernatural strength, energy, and endurance for the weeks ahead. May he continue to grow in grace and knowledge of You. We thank You for answering our prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t get me wrong. Of course I think it’s wonderful to see people come out and support their hometown boy on a national television show. I’m just getting super sick and tired of Praise & Worship Idol. (And people praying about song selection and musical arrangements on Idol.)

Thank God for Adam Lambert.

First of all, I am a born again Christian. In fact, I am a youth pastor. I do believe in the power of prayer. But I don’t believe in praying that someone will win. I think its okay for people to pray for Kris and ask God to bless his efforts.

Kris is indeed talented and so is Adam. Both of them have God-given gifts. I am not sure where Adam stands with his beliefs, but Kris chooses to give God the glory for blessing him with his ability.

I think we as Christians can get too carried away with praying for things that we want. I will be honest and say that I would love for Kris to win because he is a fellow believer in Christ. I think its been cool that Kris had not once mentioned his beliefs or tried to shove them down anyone’s throat. He has let blogs do the talking for him.

    Thanks for letting me speak!!!

I really can’t beleive that people would laugh in the face of god!!! Prayer is real – God is real!!!!! He gives people talents to use to his glory!!!!!!

God is awesome and I am thankful that people are faith are finally getting recognized. I hurt when I read what everyone was saying – you all need to look to god – he will make you whole and fill the emptyness inside you

God is real whether someone believes it or not. the Bible says to pray about everything. ALL people will stand before him someday and we ALL will give an account for what we did, said, believed, thought, and what we did not do, think or say. YOU cannot avoid it just because you choose not to believe. He loves everyone BUT we choose to follow him and accept him, it is called free will. We make choices every day and we reap what we sow in one way or another. Becarful my fellow beings, there is life after death and are you really prepared for where you are going? All this trival childish behavior is a clear example of what you believe.
Jesus is waiting for you and is prepared to forgive all and wipe pasts away and give life and change your life by giving peace and hope for a better future and a knowing of where you will be the very moment you take your last breath here on this earth and your first step into eternity. You will die if not todady, someday, you cannnot avoid it and you will live eternally—in heavin or hell. Are you really sure what is on the other side waiting for you and prepared to be there because once you draw your last breath and step into eternity it is too late to change anything. Choose life. These men have and it is about time the world sees who and not what, I stand behind them 100%, not for their talent alone, but because they are not ashamed of who they are or who’s they are and success is not in just their talent eother, but it is in their way of life, it is not just merely words but the way they live everyday when no one is watching. It is called integrity and holiness.

A church praying for a member to win American Idol? Well that just sounds crazy, what are they thinking? Not. I don’t see why this would shock or surprise anyone.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a church stepping up and voting for a worship leader. I don’t care who you are, but if you did go to church and one of the people who plays in the band got this far, OF COURSE you’re going to go crazy and support him all the way. Whether it is a church, or just someone who went to your high school, you’re going to vote until your fingers fall off. That’s just the way it is. And if someone really thinks he made it this far because of a few thousand votes from his church, they should probably think about how many people across the country are watching this show. Like “seriously” said, we vote for our own. There are plenty of crazy fans voting for Adam Lambert for two hours solid as well. Kris Allen is in the top two because he is talented. No one can make an argument about that.

Or it could have been that both Matt and Megan came out and took dumps onstage that night. I had no idea what religion Kris was, and I now know I’m not his religion, but I voted for him for two hours that night.

Call it what you want….with over 30 million votes I dont think Kris Allen is in the competition because of a few thousand votes from his church. He is good looking too….so now are you going to say he is in because of his looks? He is from the south and like it or not, Christian or not, gay or straight….we support our own. This guy just makes it easy to do…he is talented and a really great guy.

So what happens when God receives all those conflicting prayers every week ? How is he supposed to choose ? Huh ? Huh ?

I think God has Price Waterhouse count the prayers.

  14. March 2, 2009 8:08 pm

I just wanted to say that I don’t think Kris made it based on his faith alone. The prayers are a little ridiculous but i think everyone person has some big group of people voting for them and it can either be the high school they attend, or the city they’re from, etc. I am not a Christian, but yes I voted for him because of the potential I see in him to give some unique performances on his guitar (and his white boy dance moves! haha)

Also, I don’t mind what religious belief anyone has as long as they don’t preach to me. Didn’t Mandisa get kicked off the week after doing a gospel song?

You’re right about Mandisa. I think she alienated a lot of gay fans?

I don’t think Allen made it on his faith alone, trust me. I just find it interesting how its not just a community urging people to vote, they’re also factoring these people into their prayers, church services, what have you. And people praying for things like song selection? Musical arrangements? HA.

Going back to Mandisa, I think male contestants on Idol are an entirely other ball game. Female contestants don’t have fans who reach the insanity levels the male contestants do. Not even close.

You people don’t know much about real Christianity. God cares about everything. Even American Idol. This church is just breaking out of the common dualistic mindset that many Christians contain themselves in. There is no “religious” part of life and a “secular” part of life. God has an opinion about everything, even right down to the food you eat at lunch. Praying that Kris Allen will win is like opening the door for God to some orchestrate that to happen, but He doesn’t prefer to do this things on His own. He wants to have a joint partnership with all of us.

I hope that makes sense and that I didn’t throw in Christian-ease talk.

GOD actually does care, just the samw way you would be concerned about every tiny little detail of your child’s wellbeing, so does GOD care about every tiny little detail of our lives. that’s one of the biggest challenges a lot of us face today. we actually forget GOD cares for the little stuffs as much as HE does for the big things. Be BLESSED

      um .
i think its great with the praying you should be allowed to pray for anything you want to !
as for adam lambert,i really like his music.,,,,but did you know that he is homosexual?
i don’t know what you think but i know that God doesn’t want a man to be sleeping or dating with another man.
if he didn’t care which one ..wouldn’t he give Adam and Eve a choice in between the two. an go from there?
i love his music but it sickens me to listen to it if it isn’t pure in God’s eyes.
CAN I GET AN AMEN?lol.just letting you know.
